Apple Watch Series 11: Price, release date, features and the truth about blood-pressure monitoring

Apple Watch Series 11 is now available from $399. Here is what changed, what the blood-pressure feature really does, which rumors came true, and whether it is worth buying in August 2026.

Apple Watch Series 11 is real and has already launched. Apple announced it on September 9, 2025, opened preorders the same day, and began selling it on September 19, 2025. In the United States, the 42mm aluminum GPS model starts at $399.

The most important health clarification is that Series 11 does not take conventional blood-pressure readings. Its Hypertension Notifications feature analyzes heart-sensor data over time and can warn about patterns associated with possible chronic hypertension. Anyone who receives an alert must follow up with a third-party blood-pressure cuff and a healthcare professional.

Apple Watch Series 11: the current verdict

The pre-launch rumor cycle is over. Apple Watch Series 11 launched with the same general thin design as Series 10, but added a handful of meaningful refinements rather than a dramatic redesign.

The confirmed changes include:

  • Hypertension Notifications, a cuffless screening feature that looks for patterns linked with possible chronic hypertension.
  • 5G RedCap cellular connectivity on cellular models.
  • Up to 24 hours of advertised battery life, compared with up to 18 hours for Series 10.
  • A more scratch-resistant aluminum display with a ceramic coating.
  • New aluminum and titanium finishes.
  • The same S10 system chip used in Series 10, rather than the rumored S11 chip.

Series 11 is therefore a sensible standard Apple Watch for someone replacing an older model, especially if battery life, aluminum-glass durability, or cellular connectivity matters. It is a much less compelling upgrade from Series 10, and the hypertension feature alone is not a reason for every owner to upgrade because it is also supported on Series 9 and later through watchOS 26.

As of August 9, 2026, Apple’s U.S. Apple Watch store still lists Series 11 as the standard model. Rumors from MacRumors and 9to5Mac point toward a possible Series 12 announcement in September 2026, but Apple has not confirmed its date, price, or specifications.

Apple Watch Series 11 price

These are Apple’s U.S. starting prices, not temporary retailer discounts:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Configuration Starting price
42mm aluminum, GPS $399
46mm aluminum, GPS $429
42mm aluminum, GPS + Cellular $499
Titanium, GPS + Cellular $699

The final price increases with the case size, titanium construction, and premium bands. Cellular service also requires a compatible carrier plan and usually an additional monthly fee. Before choosing cellular, check Apple’s carrier and regional compatibility list; support is not universal even where the watch hardware includes 5G.

Apple’s U.S. store also lists the Apple Watch SE 3 from $249 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 from $799. Those are useful price references: SE 3 is the budget option, while Ultra 3 is the larger, more rugged model with satellite communications and substantially longer battery life.

Does Apple Watch Series 11 measure blood pressure?

No—not in the conventional sense. Series 11 does not display a systolic-over-diastolic reading such as 120/80 mmHg, does not contain an inflatable cuff, and does not replace an upper-arm blood-pressure monitor.

Instead, Apple calls the feature Hypertension Notifications. The watch uses data from its optical heart sensor and analyzes it over a rolling 30-day evaluation period. If the data shows patterns associated with possible chronic hypertension, the watch can issue a notification encouraging the user to investigate further.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A more accurate description is cuffless hypertension-risk notification, not blood-pressure monitoring. The distinction matters because a watch notification is a screening prompt, not a diagnosis or a blood-pressure measurement.

What to do after a hypertension notification

Apple directs anyone who receives an alert to discuss it with a healthcare professional and collect proper readings with a third-party blood-pressure cuff. The follow-up process is:

  1. Discuss the notification with a healthcare professional.
  2. On the iPhone, open Health and go to Search → Heart → Blood Pressure.
  3. Tap Get Started under Blood Pressure Log.
  4. Use a compatible third-party cuff twice daily for seven days.
  5. Record the readings in the Health app and share them with a healthcare professional.

The watch does not take those cuff readings itself. The Health app is being used as a log for measurements collected from a separate blood-pressure monitor.

Who can use Hypertension Notifications?

Apple’s requirements include:

  • Apple Watch Series 9 or later, or Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later.
  • The latest compatible version of watchOS.
  • iPhone 11 or later running the latest compatible version of iOS.
  • Wrist Detection enabled.
  • The user must be at least 22 years old.
  • The user must not be pregnant.
  • The user must not already have a hypertension diagnosis.
  • The feature must be available in the user’s country or region.

Hypertension Notifications is not exclusive to Series 11. It also works on eligible Series 9, Series 10, Ultra 2, and other supported models after the required software update. It is not available on Apple Watch SE. Apple’s support documentation and regional feature-availability page should be treated as the authority for current requirements.

How reliable is the feature?

Apple’s validation paper reports results from 2,229 participants, with 1,863 included in the primary endpoint analysis:

Measure Reported result
Overall sensitivity 41.2%
Overall specificity 92.3%
Specificity among participants with normal blood pressure 95.3%
Sensitivity for Stage 2 hypertension 53.7%

In practical terms, the relatively high specificity means a notification can be a useful reason to seek proper testing, particularly because most people with normal blood pressure in the study were not incorrectly flagged. But the limited sensitivity is just as important: many people with hypertension will not receive a notification. A lack of an alert does not prove that blood pressure is normal.

The feature is not intended to diagnose, treat, or manage hypertension, and it should not be used by someone as a substitute for medical care. Apple’s feature was FDA-cleared through the 510(k) pathway on September 11, 2025. “FDA-cleared” is the accurate term; it should not be described as an FDA-approved blood-pressure monitor.

What Series 11 changed from Series 10

5G RedCap cellular connectivity

Cellular versions of Series 11 support 5G RedCap as well as LTE. RedCap is a lower-power 5G technology intended for devices such as wearables. It is not equivalent to the full smartphone-style 5G experience, and the presence of 5G hardware does not guarantee faster service in every location.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5G RedCap is available only on cellular models. You need a carrier that supports Apple Watch service in your country, an eligible plan, and a regional model with the appropriate network bands. GPS-only versions do not gain cellular independence from the phone; many connected functions still depend on the paired iPhone or Wi-Fi.

Longer advertised battery life—but not a simple six-hour guarantee

Apple rates Series 11 for up to 24 hours of normal use and up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode. Series 10 was rated for up to 18 hours.

That is an important improvement, but it should not be presented as a guaranteed six-hour real-world gain. Apple’s Series 11 test includes six hours of sleep tracking within a 24-hour test, while the earlier Series 10 methodology was based on 18 hours without that same sleep-tracking assumption. Cellular use, weak signal, workouts, GPS, sleep tracking, screen settings, and software activity can all reduce runtime. Regulatory and environmental documentation also indicates larger battery capacities in Series 11, but the advertised figures remain test-condition estimates.

Charging is also relatively quick:

  • Up to 80% charge in about 30 minutes.
  • About eight hours of normal use from 15 minutes of charging.
  • About eight hours of sleep tracking from five minutes of charging.

More scratch-resistant aluminum glass

Aluminum Series 11 models use Ion-X glass with a ceramic coating. Apple says the new aluminum display is twice as scratch-resistant as the aluminum Ion-X glass used on Series 10. Titanium versions use sapphire crystal, as before.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is a durability change rather than a brightness upgrade. Series 11 reaches up to 2,000 nits, but Series 10 also reaches up to 2,000 nits. Claims that Series 11 introduced a brighter display are therefore misleading.

Same thin design and S10 chip

Series 11 retains the Series 10-style case in 42mm and 46mm sizes, with a depth of 9.7mm for both sizes. It is a refinement of the existing design, not the major anniversary redesign suggested by some pre-launch speculation.

Apple’s specifications list the S10 SiP, the same system chip used in Series 10. The rumored S11 chip did not materialize. Existing Apple Watch bands remain compatible, according to independent testing coverage from TechRadar.

Design, materials, colors and display

Series 11 is available in two case sizes:

  • 42mm
  • 46mm

Aluminum finishes are rose gold, silver, space gray, and jet black. Titanium finishes are gold, natural, and slate. Titanium is available with GPS + Cellular connectivity and uses sapphire crystal, while aluminum models use the coated Ion-X glass.

The display is an always-on wide-angle OLED panel using LTPO3 technology. It reaches up to 2,000 nits and has the same broad brightness ceiling as Series 10. Storage is 64GB.

Sleep Score, Workout Buddy and watchOS 26

Series 11 launched with watchOS 26, whose software features can make the watch seem more substantially different than the hardware actually is. Buyers should separate features exclusive to the new watch from capabilities delivered to older compatible models by the operating system.

Sleep Score

Sleep Score estimates sleep quality using factors including sleep duration, sleep consistency, and periods spent awake. Apple says its scoring approach was informed by guidance from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the National Sleep Foundation, and the World Sleep Society. Apple also says more than five million nights of Apple Heart and Movement Study data were used in development and testing.

Sleep Score is primarily a watchOS 26 feature, not a Series 11-only hardware capability. Compatible older Apple Watches can receive it through the software update, subject to Apple’s model and region requirements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Workout Buddy

Workout Buddy provides spoken encouragement based on workout history and live workout information such as heart rate, pace, distance, Activity rings, and fitness milestones. It is not a fully independent AI assistant running entirely on the watch.

Apple says Workout Buddy requires:

  • Bluetooth headphones.
  • A nearby iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
  • A supported language and workout type.
  • Availability in a supported region and language.

Other watchOS 26 changes, including the Liquid Glass interface and wrist-flick interactions, should likewise be treated as software features where compatible rather than automatic Series 11-only reasons to upgrade. Apple’s watchOS 26 announcement provides the current feature requirements.

Apple Watch Series 11 specifications

Specification Apple Watch Series 11
Case sizes 42mm and 46mm
Case depth 9.7mm
Materials Aluminum or titanium
Aluminum cover Ion-X glass with ceramic coating
Titanium cover Sapphire crystal
Display Always-on wide-angle OLED, LTPO3
Maximum brightness Up to 2,000 nits
Storage 64GB
Chip S10 SiP
Battery rating Up to 24 hours normal use; up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode
Fast charging Up to 80% in about 30 minutes
Water resistance 50 meters
Depth capability Depth gauge to 6 meters
Dust resistance IP6X
Cellular connectivity 5G RedCap and LTE on cellular models
Phone compatibility iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26 or later

The 50-meter water-resistance rating makes Series 11 suitable for activities such as swimming, but water resistance is not permanent. Apple does not intend it for scuba diving, waterskiing, or high-velocity water activities. The depth gauge to 6 meters should not be confused with the deeper diving capabilities of an Apple Watch Ultra.

Apple Watch Series 11 versus Series 10

Area Series 10 Series 11
Case sizes 42mm and 46mm 42mm and 46mm
General design Thin, wide-display design Essentially the same thin form factor
Chip S10 S10
Maximum brightness Up to 2,000 nits Up to 2,000 nits
Advertised battery life Up to 18 hours Up to 24 hours
Aluminum display Ion-X glass More scratch-resistant Ion-X glass with ceramic coating
Cellular highlight No Series 11-style 5G RedCap feature 5G RedCap and LTE on cellular models
Hypertension Notifications Available with watchOS 26 when eligible Available
Sleep Score and other watchOS 26 features Available where compatible Available

The biggest practical differences are battery endurance, aluminum-glass durability, and 5G RedCap. Series 11 does not provide a faster chip, a brighter maximum display, or a new case design. Series 10 owners who do not need cellular connectivity or the durability and battery improvements can reasonably keep their current watch or choose a discounted Series 10.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Owners of Series 9 should also note that the hypertension feature is not a Series 11 exclusive. If Hypertension Notifications is the reason for an upgrade, first check whether your Series 9 already meets Apple’s software, iPhone, age, and regional requirements.

Which Apple Watch 11 rumors came true?

The original Tom’s Guide rumor page was written before launch and is now best read as a historical roundup. Its remaining predictions should not be mistaken for current product specifications.

Pre-launch claim What happened
September 2025 launch Correct. Apple announced Series 11 on September 9 and released it on September 19, 2025.
Starting price around $399 Correct in the U.S. The 42mm aluminum GPS model starts at $399.
Similar design to Series 10 Correct. Series 11 retains the same basic thin form factor and case sizes.
New colors Correct. Apple introduced new aluminum and titanium finish options.
5G cellular Correct, with a qualification. The watch uses wearable-oriented 5G RedCap on cellular versions.
New S11 chip Incorrect. Official specifications list the S10 chip.
Brighter display Misleading. Series 11 reaches 2,000 nits, but Series 10 does too. The meaningful display change is improved scratch resistance on aluminum models.
Blood-pressure monitoring Partly correct but imprecise. The product shipped with hypertension-pattern notifications, not blood-pressure readings.
Blood-glucose monitoring Did not ship. It is not listed in Apple’s Series 11 specifications.
Front-facing or embedded camera Did not ship. No camera is listed in the hardware specifications.
Satellite messaging Not a Series 11 feature. Apple introduced satellite connectivity with Apple Watch Ultra 3.
Major anniversary redesign Did not happen. Series 11 is a refinement of the Series 10 design.
Apple Intelligence running directly on the watch Overstated. Workout Buddy depends on a compatible nearby iPhone and Bluetooth headphones.

Should you buy Apple Watch Series 11 now?

The answer depends more on your current watch and the price you can find than on the rumor headlines.

Buy Series 11 if you are replacing an older Apple Watch

Series 11 is a substantial practical upgrade from much older models. You gain the newer display design, current software support, better advertised battery life, improved aluminum-glass scratch resistance, and current health and safety capabilities. It is also the straightforward choice if you want the standard Apple Watch rather than the larger Ultra.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Buy it if you specifically want cellular service

Cellular Series 11 is the option to consider if you want to leave the iPhone behind for calls, messages, streaming, and other supported functions. Confirm carrier compatibility and plan pricing first. The 5G RedCap label does not promise smartphone-level speeds, but it is designed to provide lower-power 5G connectivity for a wearable.

Do not upgrade from Series 9 solely for hypertension notifications

Eligible Series 9 and later watches can use Hypertension Notifications with watchOS 26. Upgrade from Series 9 for the battery, glass, connectivity, or other hardware reasons—not simply to unlock this health feature. If you have already been diagnosed with hypertension, the feature is not intended for your situation; follow your clinician’s monitoring plan instead.

Consider a discounted Series 10

A Series 10 is worth considering when it is substantially cheaper and you do not need 5G RedCap, the more scratch-resistant aluminum glass, or the longer advertised battery rating. It has the same S10 chip, the same maximum display brightness, the same general design, and access to major watchOS 26 software features.

Consider Apple Watch SE 3 for the lowest price

SE 3 is the better value if your priorities are activity tracking, sleep features, safety tools, notifications, and basic smartwatch functions. It does not include ECG, the premium display and materials, or Hypertension Notifications. Apple’s U.S. store lists it from $249.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose Ultra 3 for battery and outdoor capability

Ultra 3 is the alternative for users who need much longer battery life, a larger 49mm titanium case, satellite communications, and more rugged outdoor features. It costs more, starting at $799 in the U.S., and is considerably larger than Series 11.

Wait if you are paying full price in August 2026

If your current Apple Watch still works and you are buying at Apple’s full MSRP, waiting may be sensible because multiple reports expect a Series 12 announcement in September 2026. That is a timing decision, not a confirmed product specification. Series 12’s existence, design, features, price, and release date remain unannounced by Apple.

Compatibility and practical warnings

  • iPhone required: Series 11 requires an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. It is not compatible with Android phones.
  • Cellular is conditional: A cellular-capable watch still needs a compatible carrier plan, and supported bands and networks vary by regional model.
  • Battery figures are estimates: Apple says up to 24 hours, not that every user will receive 24 hours. Cellular use, weak signal, workouts, GPS, sleep tracking, and settings can reduce runtime.
  • No alert does not rule out hypertension: Apple’s validation study reported 41.2% overall sensitivity, so proper cuff measurements remain important.
  • An alert is not a diagnosis: Follow-up readings with a third-party cuff and professional advice are essential.
  • Eligibility matters: Hypertension Notifications is not intended for people who already have a hypertension diagnosis or for use during pregnancy.
  • Regional restrictions apply: Health features depend on local regulatory clearance and availability.
  • Blood Oxygen wording varies in the U.S.: On affected U.S. models, analysis is performed on the iPhone and results are viewed in the Health app rather than directly on the watch. See Apple’s model and Blood Oxygen support page for the applicable model details.
  • Water resistance is limited: The watch is suitable for swimming but is not intended for scuba diving, waterskiing, or high-velocity water activities.

Bottom line

Apple Watch Series 11 is a real, available product—not an ongoing rumor—and its U.S. entry price is $399. Its most important health addition is useful but narrower than the phrase blood-pressure monitoring suggests: it looks for possible hypertension patterns and prompts follow-up testing, but it never provides a cuff-style reading and cannot rule out high blood pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Apple Watch Series 11 give blood-pressure readings?

No. Hypertension Notifications looks for patterns associated with possible chronic hypertension over a 30-day period. It does not show systolic or diastolic readings and does not replace an upper-arm cuff. After an alert, Apple directs users to take readings with a third-party cuff twice daily for seven days.

Is Hypertension Notifications exclusive to Apple Watch Series 11?

No. Apple also supports the feature on Apple Watch Series 9 and later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later, provided the required watchOS, iOS, iPhone, age, health, and regional requirements are met. It is not available on Apple Watch SE.

Can Apple Watch Series 11 detect every case of hypertension?

No. Apple’s validation paper reports overall sensitivity of 41.2%, meaning a lack of notification does not prove that blood pressure is normal. A notification is a reason to seek proper cuff measurements, not a diagnosis.

Does Apple Watch Series 11 work with Android?

No. Series 11 requires an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. It is not compatible with Android phones.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does Series 11 measure blood glucose?

No blood-glucose monitoring feature is listed in Apple’s Series 11 specifications, so pre-launch glucose-monitoring rumors should not be treated as a shipped feature.

Is 5G available on every Apple Watch Series 11?

No. 5G RedCap is available on cellular versions only. You also need a supported carrier and cellular plan, and availability varies by region. GPS-only models do not include cellular connectivity.

Are Series 10 bands compatible with Series 11?

Yes. The two watches use the same 42mm and 46mm case-size system, and independent testing coverage reports compatibility with existing Apple Watch bands.

Can I swim or dive with Apple Watch Series 11?

Series 11 has 50-meter water resistance and a depth gauge to 6 meters, making it suitable for swimming. Apple does not intend it for scuba diving, waterskiing, or high-velocity water activities, and water resistance can decline over time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Apple Watch Series 11 is a refined upgrade, not a redesign. Buy it for its improved advertised battery life, more scratch-resistant aluminum display, 5G RedCap cellular option, and current software support. Do not buy it expecting a blood-pressure monitor: Hypertension Notifications is a screening-style alert that requires confirmation with a separate cuff. If you own Series 10 or already have an eligible Series 9, a discount—or waiting for the next September product cycle—may offer better value.
