Apple Watch Series 12 is expected to be announced in September 2026, but Apple has not officially confirmed the watch, its price, specifications, or release date. The strongest current reporting points to a new processor, faster performance, and health and fitness refinements. It does not point to a major redesign.

Apple Watch Series 12: the short answer

  • Expected announcement: September 2026, probably alongside the iPhone 18 family; the exact date is unconfirmed.
  • Expected U.S. starting price: Approximately $399 to $429 for the entry aluminum GPS model, before tax.
  • Most likely upgrades: A new Apple Watch chip, better performance, and unspecified health and fitness improvements.
  • What probably will not change: The overall case design, general 42mm and 46mm format, and existing band system.
  • Best advice: Wait if you can comfortably reach September. Buy an Apple Watch Series 11 now only if you need one immediately and find a meaningful discount.

This is a pre-release forecast based on reporting available on August 10, 2026. Prices in this article are U.S. prices before sales tax, carrier fees, trade-in credits, or retailer promotions.

What is officially confirmed?

Nothing about the Apple Watch Series 12 is official yet. Apple’s current U.S. lineup is the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE 3, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. Apple has not published a Series 12 product page, launch announcement, configuration list, technical specifications, or MSRP.

The current Apple Watch Series 11 starts at $399 in the United States. That makes it the most useful comparison point for judging Series 12 rumors rather than older Series 10 pricing or long-running Apple Watch redesign speculation.

Apple Watch Series 12 release date expectations

September 2026 is the best forecast, not a confirmed release date. Reporting attributed to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and relayed by 9to5Mac and MacRumors says Apple is in late-stage testing of Wi-Fi and cellular Series 12 models and expects the lineup to arrive in September.

Apple has not announced an event date. Tuesday, September 8, and Tuesday, September 15, are dates worth watching based on the 2026 calendar and Apple’s recent scheduling habits, but neither should be treated as an Apple-confirmed date. Apple could also change its event format, announce the watch during an iPhone event, or use a press release.

Announcement, preorder, and store availability are different dates

If Apple follows its recent pattern, the announcement would come first, preorders would open shortly afterward, and retail availability would follow roughly one to two weeks later. Those are separate milestones: a product can be revealed in September without being available to buy on the same day.

Apple Watch Series 10 September 9, 2024 September 20, 2024
Apple Watch Series 11 September 9, 2025 September 19, 2025

Apple’s official announcements for the Series 8, Series 9, Series 10, and Series 11 show the recent timing pattern.

Wi-Fi and cellular models are both reportedly being tested, so a broad launch for both is plausible. However, Apple has not confirmed whether every size, color, material, and cellular configuration will ship at the same time in the United States or other major markets. Supply constraints could also delay particular colors, sizes, or cellular versions even if the main Series 12 launch happens in September.

Apple Watch Series 12 price estimates

There is no reliable Series 12 price leak. The most defensible estimate is $399 to $429 for the entry U.S. GPS model.

Configuration Series 11 current price Series 12 estimate
42mm aluminum GPS $399 $399–$429
46mm aluminum GPS $429 Likely above the entry price
GPS + Cellular From $499 Likely about $499–$529
Titanium GPS + Cellular From $699 Could remain similar or increase

The $399 expectation comes from Tom’s Guide, which expects Apple to maintain its recent pricing pattern. Macworld estimates that $429 is a more cautious budget assumption after Apple raised prices on several Mac and iPad products in June 2026.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That June increase did not include Apple Watch, iPhone, or AirPods prices at the time, according to 9to5Mac and The Associated Press. Series 12 could therefore remain at $399, but the earlier increases mean a modest price adjustment cannot be ruled out. The $429 figure is a contingency estimate, not information from an Apple source.

What the advertised price will not include

  • Sales tax: The final checkout total depends on your state and local tax rate.
  • Cellular service: A cellular watch costs more up front and requires a compatible carrier plan, usually with a recurring fee.
  • Trade-in terms: Apple and retailers may offer credits, but values depend on model, condition, timing, and promotion.
  • Retailer promotions: The launch MSRP and the street price are different. Series 11 discounts may appear quickly after Series 12 is announced.

Buyers who need a watch before September should compare the total cost of a discounted Series 11 with the likely Series 12 entry price rather than comparing only Apple’s list prices.

Most likely Apple Watch Series 12 upgrades

The current evidence points to an incremental update. The table below separates relatively strong expectations from weak or speculative claims.

Potential change Confidence What the evidence supports
September 2026 announcement High Expected from Apple’s annual pattern and current reporting, but not confirmed
New chip or chip architecture High The strongest hardware expectation after the S10 was reused in Series 11
Faster performance High Reported, although no benchmark or numerical gain is available
Health and fitness refinements Medium-high Reported but not tied to a named sensor or measurement
Broadly unchanged case design High Current reporting points to the Series 10-era shape continuing
42mm and 46mm format Medium Likely, but not officially confirmed
Longer battery life Medium-low Plausible and claimed by one source, but not corroborated strongly
Revised hypertension notifications Low-medium Appears in supply-chain-related reporting, but remains unconfirmed
Touch ID Low Code references exist, but the rumor is disputed
Sensor embedded in a band Very low A single weakly sourced claim without major supply-chain confirmation
MicroLED, blood-pressure measurement, or glucose monitoring Very low to low Long-term or speculative ideas, not credible Series 12 expectations
Major redesign or new band connector Low More often associated with 2027–2028 rumor timelines

1. A new chip is the clearest expected upgrade

Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch SE 3 use the S10 chip. Current reporting says Series 12 should receive a new processor after that one-generation reuse. The commercial name could be S11, S12, or something else; S12 is not a confirmed specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A new chip would matter less because Apple Watch owners need dramatically higher peak speed and more because it could improve everyday responsiveness and efficiency. Potential benefits include faster app launches, more responsive Siri and on-device intelligence, smoother workout calculations, better background tasks, and more headroom for future watchOS releases.

There are no trustworthy benchmark results, CPU-core figures, RAM figures, clock speeds, or battery-capacity numbers to quote. Performance gains should be judged using independent reviews after launch, particularly for app loading, workout recording, cellular use, and battery endurance.

2. Health and fitness improvements are possible, but unspecified

Gurman’s reporting points to health and fitness improvements, while 9to5Mac says there is no concrete confirmation of a particular new health feature. Plausible areas for refinement include:

  • More accurate heart-rate or workout data.
  • Improved running and indoor-workout metrics.
  • More detailed sleep or recovery interpretation.
  • Better cycling, swimming, or training trends.
  • More useful health trends and explanations in the Health app.
  • Improved hypertension-related notifications.

These are areas Apple may improve, not a list of confirmed Series 12 capabilities. The most relevant reporting is from 9to5Mac’s May report and its July report.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Hypertension notifications are not a blood-pressure monitor

This distinction is important. Series 11 can provide notifications for signs of chronic high blood pressure, but that is not the same as taking a cuff-style blood-pressure reading. A rumor about improved hypertension notifications is not evidence that Series 12 will contain a conventional blood-pressure sensor.

Unless Apple explicitly announces otherwise and explains the feature’s regulatory status, do not treat Series 12 as a replacement for a clinical blood-pressure cuff or professional medical advice. Health notifications are not diagnoses, and availability can vary by country, region, language, regulatory clearance, iPhone model, and watchOS version.

Blood-glucose monitoring is not a credible Series 12 expectation

Blood-glucose detection remains a long-running Apple research goal, but current reporting places it later in the decade rather than in this generation. Gurman-related reporting has reportedly placed a market arrival around 2030, while 2026 coverage says no concrete glucose feature is ready for Series 12. MacRumors’ roundup covers the longer-term expectation.

Blood-glucose monitoring is a longer-term Apple research goal, not a confirmed Series 12 feature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. The design should remain close to Series 11

The strongest design expectation is that Series 12 will continue the thinner case and larger-display approach introduced with Series 10 and carried into Series 11. Gurman reportedly does not expect a major design overhaul in 2026, and MacRumors’ redesign report likewise places larger changes further out.

Apple Watch SE 3 [GPS 40mm] Smartwatch with Midnight Aluminum Case with Midnight Sport Band - S/M. Fitness and Sleep Trackers, Heart Rate Monitor, Always-On Display, Water Resistant
  • GET SMARTER HEALTH INSIGHTS—Apple Watch SE 3 is an advanced health tracker that helps you better understand your body. The smartwatch sends alerts for an irregular heart rhythm, or an unusually high or low heart rate.* You can view your overnight health tracking metrics with the Vitals app,* track your sleep score, and get sleep apnea notifications.*
  • A GREAT FITNESS TRACKER—SE 3 can track your workouts in a healthy number of ways—from running and strength training to simply achieving your 10K steps a day. With real-time metrics and Workout Buddy powered by Apple Intelligence from your nearby iPhone,* you’ll hit your goals like never before.
  • KEEP HELP CLOSE AT HAND—SE 3 is a smartwatch that can detect a hard fall or severe car crash and automatically help connect you to emergency services and notify your emergency contacts.* Check In can automatically notify a loved one when you’ve arrived at your destination.
  • WOMEN’S HEALTH INSIGHTS—SE 3 has advanced sensors that track your wrist temperature while you sleep. With this smartwatch, you can log your periods and symptoms, get period predictions, and get notified of cycle deviations.*
  • GREAT BATTERY LIFE AND FASTER CHARGING—Enjoy a smartwatch with all-day, 18-hour battery life* from sunup to sundown. Then charge up to twice as fast as SE 2* and get up to 8 hours of battery in just 15 minutes.*

Possible but unconfirmed changes include new case colors, minor bezel or display refinements, or small material updates. The current 42mm and 46mm size family is likely to remain, and existing bands are likely to continue working if the external design stays substantially the same. Neither the sizes nor compatibility should be treated as official until Apple publishes the Series 12 configuration list.

There is currently no strong basis for expecting a flat-sided case, a magnetic band system, a radically different screen size, a front-facing camera, or a new rear sensor layout. Earlier Apple Watch X rumors about a new band system and microLED did not arrive with Series 10, so repeating those ideas as current Series 12 features would overstate the evidence.

4. Battery life could improve, but there is no number to trust yet

Apple rates Series 11 for up to 24 hours of normal use and up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode. It can reach 80% charge in about 30 minutes, provide about eight hours of normal use from 15 minutes of charging, and provide about eight hours of sleep tracking from five minutes of charging. Those figures are listed in Apple’s official Series 11 specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A Weibo-based rumor says Apple is focusing on longer battery life for Series 12, but this has not been corroborated by the strongest reporting. A new chip and more efficient components could improve endurance, but battery size, rated hours, and charging speed are unknown. The careful forecast is:

Longer battery life is plausible, especially if Apple combines a new chip with more efficient components, but there is no reliable number to quote yet.

5. Connectivity, materials, and bands

Series 11 brought 5G RedCap and LTE to cellular models. There is no credible indication that Apple will remove cellular connectivity from Series 12, so 5G and LTE are likely to continue, although the exact modem and supported bands are unconfirmed.

Aluminum and titanium are the most reasonable material expectations because they are the current Series 11 choices. A ceramic case rumor has not been substantiated and should not be treated as a Series 12 specification. Likewise, the 42mm and 46mm sizes and current band compatibility are likely rather than confirmed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A new band connector would be a particularly significant change because it could make existing bands incompatible. Current reporting does not make that a likely Series 12 feature. Buyers should still wait for Apple’s official compatibility statement before purchasing expensive bands for an unannounced model.

Rumors that need skepticism

Rumor Confidence How to interpret it
Touch ID in the side button Low Code references may represent an experiment or abandoned plan. The claim has reportedly been disputed and lacks corroboration from stronger sources.
Health sensor built into an Apple Watch band Very low One leaker made the claim. It raises unresolved questions about battery, waterproofing, fit, replacement bands, and ecosystem compatibility.
True blood-pressure measurement Low Do not confuse it with Series 11’s hypertension notifications.
Blood-glucose monitoring Very low Current reporting treats glucose monitoring as a longer-term project, not a 2026 feature.
MicroLED display Very low for Series 12 Mostly older roadmap material; current reporting points to a similar display design in this generation.
Front-facing camera Very low No current evidence establishes it as a Series 12 feature.
Major redesign or magnetic bands Low More commonly associated with later 2027–2028 speculation than Series 12.
Ceramic case Unverified A separate premium-material rumor without established Series 12 support.

Why Touch ID is not a safe buying reason

The Touch ID rumor began with references found in software code and suggested that biometric authentication might be integrated into the side button. But code can describe prototypes, internal experiments, or features that Apple later cancels. The claim has reportedly been denied by at least one leaker, and it has not been corroborated by Mark Gurman or Ming-Chi Kuo.

One possible explanation raised in the reporting is that Apple may have rejected the idea because the hardware would occupy internal space needed for the battery or health components. That explanation is itself unconfirmed. The practical conclusion is simple: do not buy or delay a watch based on Touch ID.

Why a band-mounted sensor would be a difficult change

One leaker known as Kosutami claimed that a Series 12 band could contain an embedded health sensor. MacRumors described the claim as sketchy, and there has been no Apple confirmation or strong supply-chain support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Moving a sensor into a band would create practical complications. Would it work only with one special band? Would replacement bands require electronics? How would Apple handle battery life, cleaning, durability, waterproofing, and inconsistent readings caused by a loose fit? Current Apple Watch health sensors are built into the watch itself. Until those questions have credible answers, the band-sensor story belongs in the very-low-confidence category rather than the main upgrade forecast.

watchOS 27 is important, but it is not necessarily Series 12 hardware

Buying a new watch solely for watchOS 27 would be a mistake for many Series 11 owners because Apple is bringing most of the visible software changes to existing compatible models.

Apple’s official watchOS 27 preview lists:

  • Siri AI features and a dedicated Siri app.
  • A dynamic app grid.
  • A new tap gesture for interacting with the Smart Stack.
  • Workout Buddy improvements.
  • Better distance tracking for indoor running and walking.
  • Perimenopause and menopause support in Cycle Tracking.
  • Find My refinements.
  • Liquid Glass design refinements.
  • New Smart Stack suggestions.

Apple lists watchOS 27 as compatible with the Apple Watch SE 3, Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2, and Ultra 3. It requires an iPhone 11 or later, or an iPhone SE second generation or later, running iOS 27.

Apple Intelligence and Siri-related capabilities may vary by language, region, account settings, and compatible hardware. More importantly for buyers, Series 12 may receive hardware-only benefits such as its new chip, improved efficiency, or any new sensors Apple chooses to restrict to the new model. A Series 11 owner should therefore compare those specific benefits rather than counting every watchOS 27 feature as a Series 12 exclusive.

Series 12 versus Series 11: who should upgrade?

Potential Series 12 difference What it means for a Series 11 buyer
New chip Potentially faster apps, Siri, workouts, background tasks, and longer future software headroom; exact gains require testing.
Health and fitness refinements Could matter to health-focused users, but no specific new sensor or measurement is confirmed.
Battery efficiency Could reduce charging pressure, but longer rated battery life remains unconfirmed.
Same broad design Do not expect a visibly revolutionary case or a new band ecosystem.
watchOS 27 Not a Series 12-only reason to upgrade; Series 11 is compatible.
Potential future support A newer chip may help with later watchOS features, but Apple has not promised a specific support period.

Series 11 owners

The upgrade case is weak unless Series 12 delivers a genuinely important health feature or substantially better battery life. Series 11 already has a 24-hour battery rating, Sleep Score, hypertension notifications, 5G cellular, improved display durability, and watchOS 27 compatibility. Most owners should wait for independent performance and battery testing rather than upgrading on the basis of a new chip alone.

Series 9 and Series 10 owners

Wait for reviews unless your battery has deteriorated or you need a specific new feature. Both models are on Apple’s watchOS 27 compatibility list, so software support alone does not make Series 12 necessary. A meaningful chip improvement, better endurance, or a new health capability could justify the upgrade; a minor speed increase probably will not.

Series 6, Series 7, and Series 8 owners

These owners have a stronger reason to consider Series 12 because Apple’s watchOS 27 compatibility list starts at Series 9. Series 6, 7, and 8 do not receive the latest major watchOS release. If your current watch remains reliable, waiting for Series 12 lets you compare the new model with discounted Series 11 pricing. If you need a replacement now, a discounted Series 11 is still a substantial move up from those older generations.

New buyers

If you can comfortably wait until September, waiting gives you information rather than locking you into a rumor. You can buy Series 12, choose a newly discounted Series 11, or decide that the actual upgrade is too small to justify the price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you need a watch immediately, Series 11 is sensible at a meaningful discount. A discount of roughly $75 to $100 below Apple’s $399 starting price makes the known Series 11 more attractive than paying full price for a product that may be replaced within weeks.

People waiting for a major redesign

Do not wait specifically for Series 12 if your priority is a radically thinner watch, microLED, a new band connector, or a substantially different case. Current reporting points away from a major 2026 redesign, while larger changes are more often placed in 2027 or 2028 rumor timelines. Those later timelines are not guarantees either, so buy based on your actual needs rather than an indefinite redesign cycle.

Regular Series or Ultra?

Choose the current Apple Watch Ultra 3 if you need a larger, more rugged watch or prioritize battery life and outdoor use today. Choose the regular Series line if you prefer a smaller, lighter everyday watch and do not need the Ultra’s design and endurance characteristics.

If you can wait, September may provide a chance to compare Series 12 with whatever Apple does next with the Ultra line. But there is not enough confirmed information to recommend delaying an urgent purchase solely for a rumored Ultra 4.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Who should buy cellular?

Cellular is most useful if you regularly leave your iPhone behind, need calls or messages during runs, want streaming away from Wi-Fi, or value a connected emergency option. It is poor value if your iPhone is almost always nearby. Remember that the watch costs more up front and requires a compatible carrier plan, so the $399 GPS price is not the all-in cost of a cellular setup.

Should you buy Apple Watch Series 11 now or wait?

Your situation Recommendation
You need a watch immediately Buy Series 11 if discounted; avoid paying full price unless the immediate need outweighs waiting.
You own Series 11 Wait. watchOS 27 already comes to your watch, and Series 12’s hardware benefits are not yet specific enough.
You own Series 9 or 10 Wait for Series 12 reviews, especially battery and performance testing.
You own Series 6–8 Wait for Series 12 if possible, or buy a discounted Series 11 if you need a replacement.
You want a major redesign Do not assume Series 12 is that model; current reporting points to an incremental design.
You want cellular Budget for the higher watch price plus the recurring carrier plan.
You prioritize battery life above all else Compare Series 12 reviews with the Ultra 3 rather than assuming a rumored Series 12 battery increase.

What to check when Apple announces Series 12

  1. Actual starting price: Check whether Apple holds at $399 or moves to $429, and whether the 46mm, cellular, and titanium premiums changed.
  2. Chip name and tested performance: Confirm the processor’s commercial name, then wait for real app, workout, Siri, and cellular benchmarks.
  3. Battery rating: Look for Apple’s normal-use and Low Power Mode figures, not just vague claims about efficiency.
  4. Charging: Confirm whether the 30-minute 80% claim or quick sleep-tracking charge has changed.
  5. Health feature details: Determine whether Apple announced a new sensor, a software interpretation, or a region-limited notification.
  6. Medical boundaries: Check whether any health feature requires regulatory authorization or is unavailable in your country.
  7. Case and band compatibility: Confirm the 42mm and 46mm sizes, materials, dimensions, and whether existing bands fit.
  8. Availability: Check preorder and retail dates separately, including delayed configurations and countries.
  9. Series 11 discounts: Compare Apple’s new MSRP with retailer pricing and trade-in credits before deciding.

Update log

Last checked: August 10, 2026. At this date, Apple had not announced Apple Watch Series 12.

  • Next update: Add the official event date when Apple publishes an invitation or announcement.
  • At announcement: Replace estimates with confirmed price, sizes, materials, connectivity, chip, health features, and regional availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has Apple officially announced the Apple Watch Series 12?

No. As of August 10, 2026, Apple has not confirmed the Series 12, its price, specifications, or release date. September 2026 is the strongest expectation based on Apple’s recent launch pattern and current reporting, but it remains unconfirmed.

Will the Apple Watch Series 12 measure blood pressure?

There is no reliable evidence that it will. Series 11’s hypertension notifications are not the same as cuff-style blood-pressure measurement. A rumored improvement to those notifications should not be described as a new blood-pressure sensor or medical-grade monitor.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the Apple Watch Series 12 chip definitely called S12?

No. Current reporting supports the expectation of a new processor after the S10 was reused in Series 11, but Apple has not confirmed the chip’s name. S12 is only shorthand or a prediction.

Should a Series 11 owner upgrade to Series 12?

Probably not immediately. Series 11 supports watchOS 27, so software alone is not a reason to upgrade. Wait for reviews and look for a substantial battery improvement, a meaningful health feature, or a clear performance gain before spending the money.

The Bottom Line

Wait if you can, but do not wait for a redesign that current evidence does not support. Apple Watch Series 12 is most likely a September 2026 update with a new chip and refinements rather than a radical new watch. A Series 11 owner should generally keep their current watch; a Series 6–8 owner has a stronger reason to wait or upgrade; and a buyer who needs a watch now should look for a Series 11 discount of roughly $75–$100 rather than paying full price for an outgoing model.
