Apple Watch Series 8: Features, Price, Release Date, Review and 2026 Deals

The Apple Watch Series 8 remains a capable iPhone smartwatch with ECG, an always-on display, wrist-temperature sensing, and Crash Detection. In 2026, its value depends on a low used price, healthy battery, and realistic expectations about watchOS support.

The Apple Watch Series 8 is still a capable iPhone smartwatch, but in 2026 it is a used-market purchase rather than a current Apple retail product. It launched on September 16, 2022, at $399, and still delivers an always-on display, ECG, wrist-temperature sensing, fall and crash detection, GPS, sleep tracking, Apple Pay, and optional cellular service. The catch is age: battery condition varies widely, watchOS 26 is likely its final major software release, and a Series 8 becomes poor value once its price approaches a newer refurbished Apple Watch or the $249 Apple Watch SE 3.

For most buyers, a good target is $120–$170 for a healthy aluminum model, or roughly $150–$200 for a larger 45mm or cellular version. Those are buying thresholds based on U.S. used-market snapshots, not official Apple prices. Check battery health, Activation Lock, connectivity, region, warranty, and the return window before paying.

Apple announced the Series 8 alongside the second-generation Apple Watch SE on September 7, 2022, and began selling it worldwide on September 16. Apple replaced it with the Series 9 in 2023. The Series 8 is now absent from Apple’s current Watch store, so a listing described as “new” is generally old inventory rather than a current model.

What is the Apple Watch Series 8?

The Series 8 was Apple’s mainstream smartwatch for 2022. It sat above the less expensive Apple Watch SE and below the new Apple Watch Ultra. Its design was familiar, but Apple added wrist-temperature sensing, improved motion sensors, and Crash Detection while retaining the features that made the standard Apple Watch useful: an always-on display, strong iPhone integration, ECG, activity tracking, notifications, Apple Pay, and optional LTE connectivity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It was a polished but incremental upgrade over the Series 7. Many of the workout and software improvements introduced with watchOS 9 also reached older compatible Apple Watch models, so they should not all be treated as Series 8-exclusive hardware features. The main reason to buy one now is not that it is unusually fast or new. It is that a healthy unit can provide much of the standard Apple Watch experience for substantially less than a current model.

Apple Watch Series 8 price and release date

Original U.S. launch prices

The U.S. Series 8 launch prices were as follows. The final price varied with case material, size, band, and retailer configuration.

#1 Best Overall
Apple Watch Series 8 [GPS + Cellular, 45mm] - Midnight Aluminum Case with Midnight Sport Band, M/L (Renewed)
  • WHY APPLE WATCH SERIES 8 — Your essential companion for a healthy life is now even more powerful. Advanced sensors provide insights to help you better understand your health. New safety features can get you help when you need it. The bright, Always-On Retina display is easy to read, even when your wrist is down.
  • CELLULAR CONNECTIVITY — Send a text, make a call, and stream music without your iPhone, even while traveling internationally. Use Family Setup to manage Apple Watch for family members who don’t have an iPhone.
  • EASILY CUSTOMIZABLE — Available in a range of sizes and materials, with dozens of bands to choose from and watch faces with complications tailored to whatever you’re into.
  • INNOVATIVE SAFETY FEATURES — Crash Detection and Fall Detection can automatically connect you with emergency services in the event of a severe car crash or a hard fall. And Emergency SOS provides urgent assistance with the press of a button.
  • ADVANCED HEALTH FEATURES — Temperature sensing is a breakthrough feature that provides deep insights into women’s health. Keep an eye on your blood oxygen. Take an ECG anytime. Get notifications if you have an irregular rhythm. And see how much time you spent in REM, Core, or Deep sleep with Sleep Stages.
Configuration Launch price
41mm aluminum GPS $399
45mm aluminum GPS $429
41mm aluminum GPS + Cellular $499
45mm aluminum GPS + Cellular $529
Stainless steel From approximately $699, depending on size and band

Launch prices are useful historical context, but they are not a guide to what the watch is worth in 2026. A remaining “new” Series 8 can be more expensive than a newer refurbished model simply because a retailer still has old stock.

For launch-era pricing and configuration context, see Tom’s Guide’s Series 8 review and Macworld’s launch guide.

What a Series 8 is worth in 2026

U.S. market prices checked for this article on August 9, 2026 show a wide spread based on condition, battery health, case size, material, and cellular capability. Back Market displayed examples around $129 for a 41mm aluminum GPS model in Fair condition, around $171 for one 45mm aluminum configuration, and approximately $176.95 or more for some GPS + Cellular examples. Its listings included a 30-day return period, a one-year warranty, and a battery stated to exceed 80% of the original capacity, but the watches were refurbished by third-party vendors and were not guaranteed to retain their water resistance. See the current Back Market Series 8 listings for changing inventory and terms.

Swappa’s 41mm pricing page, dated July 28, 2026, showed a $103 starting price, a $183 average listing price, and a $139 average sale price. That data covers the 41mm category and should not be generalized to every 45mm, cellular, stainless-steel, or Hermès model. Check the Swappa 41mm price page before using it as a benchmark.

Configuration Strong deal Acceptable deal Usually avoid above
41mm aluminum GPS $120–$150 $150–$170 $180
45mm aluminum GPS $140–$170 $170–$190 $200
Aluminum GPS + Cellular $150–$190 $190–$220 $230
Stainless steel Highly condition-dependent; compare its price with newer Series 9 and Series 10 watches rather than paying automatically for the material

These are editorial decision rules, not official valuations. They assume approximately 90% or better battery health, a working screen and sensors, no Activation Lock, a charger or a reasonable allowance to buy one, and a genuine return window.

Design, sizes, display, and materials

41mm and 45mm cases

The Series 8 comes in 41mm and 45mm case sizes. Existing Apple Watch bands made for the corresponding size families remain compatible, so a buyer can often reuse bands from earlier models. Aluminum models were available in Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and PRODUCT(RED). Stainless-steel models came in Graphite, Silver, and Gold, with Hermès versions using stainless-steel cases and specialized bands and watch faces.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For most people, 41mm is the lighter and more discreet choice. The 45mm version is easier to read and gives complications more room, but costs more on the used market and may feel large on a smaller wrist.

Always-on OLED display

Both sizes use an always-on LTPO OLED Retina display with brightness up to 1,000 nits. The 41mm screen measures 352 × 430 pixels and has 904 square millimeters of display area. The 45mm screen measures 396 × 484 pixels and has 1,143 square millimeters of display area.

Aluminum models use Ion-X front glass. Stainless-steel models use sapphire crystal, which is more resistant to scratches but does not make the entire watch indestructible. The always-on display remains one of the Series 8’s strongest reasons to choose it over a lower-tier Apple Watch, although buyers should verify the current SE 3 specification before assuming that difference remains unchanged in every configuration.

Dimensions, weight, and storage

The case is 10.7mm thick, and every Series 8 has 32GB of storage. Approximate weights are:

  • 41mm aluminum GPS: 31.9g
  • 41mm aluminum GPS + Cellular: 32.2g

  • 45mm aluminum GPS + Cellular: 39.1g
  • 41mm stainless steel: 42.3g
  • 45mm stainless steel: 51.5g

The complete dimensions, weight, display, sensor, and connectivity specifications are listed in Apple’s Series 8 technical specifications.

Processor, GPS, Wi-Fi, and cellular connectivity

The Series 8 uses Apple’s S8 SiP with a 64-bit dual-core processor, W3 wireless chip, U1 Ultra Wideband chip, Bluetooth 5.3, and dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi. Its satellite systems include GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, and BeiDou. It has 32GB of storage for apps, music, podcasts, and other local content.

GPS models are appropriate for people who normally carry an iPhone. The watch can record an outdoor workout and route without the phone nearby, but it does not provide the same independent communications capability as a cellular model.

GPS + Cellular models can make calls, send messages, access data, stream content, and use emergency features away from an iPhone when activated with a compatible carrier plan. Cellular service generally adds a monthly charge. Compatibility is not universal: regional model numbers, supported LTE bands, carrier policies, activation rules, and roaming support all matter. Do not buy a cellular Series 8 solely because a listing says “LTE”; check the exact model and your carrier first.

Apple’s model-identification page lists the relevant regional variants, including:

  • 41mm GPS: A2770
  • 45mm GPS: A2771
  • 41mm GPS + Cellular: A2772, A2773, or A2857, depending on region
  • 45mm GPS + Cellular: A2774, A2775, or A2858, depending on region

Health features

Heart-rate monitoring and ECG

The Series 8 includes a third-generation optical heart sensor and an electrical heart sensor. It supports heart-rate readings, high- and low-heart-rate notifications, irregular-rhythm notifications, cardio-fitness estimates, and the ECG app. AFib History is available in supported regions and circumstances.

ECG can help identify possible signs of certain heart-rhythm irregularities, but it is not a general heart-health diagnosis and does not replace professional medical care. Availability depends on country or region and regulatory approval. Apple documents the ECG feature in its ECG user guide and lists regional differences on its watchOS feature-availability page.

Wrist-temperature sensing

Wrist-temperature sensing was one of the Series 8’s notable hardware additions. Overnight temperature trends can contribute to menstrual-cycle insights and retrospective ovulation estimates when the user has established enough data and logs relevant cycle information.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is not a conventional thermometer. It does not measure core body temperature, and it should not be used to diagnose illness. Apple describes the feature as using changes in wrist temperature and other cycle information to estimate retrospective ovulation patterns. It is also not a reason to assume every temperature-related health feature on a later Apple Watch will be available on Series 8.

Blood Oxygen: an important U.S. buying warning

Do not assume that every Series 8 listing includes a working Blood Oxygen app. The hardware specifications include a blood-oxygen sensor, but availability depends on the country of sale, model, sale date, and part number.

Apple says Apple Watch units sold in the United States on or after January 18, 2024, with part numbers ending in LW/A, use an altered experience in which blood-oxygen data analysis occurs on the paired iPhone and results are viewed in the Health app. A used Series 8 sold earlier, or a unit originally sold in another country, may differ. Ask the seller for the model or part number and confirm regional support before buying if Blood Oxygen is important to you.

Blood Oxygen readings are not intended for medical use. Read Apple’s Blood Oxygen support page before treating the specification as a buying guarantee.

  • Temperature Sensing Technology: Advanced sensors provide temperature insights and support health tracking features.

Sleep and cycle tracking

The Series 8 can track sleep duration and sleep stages such as REM, Core, and Deep sleep. It can also support cycle tracking and related health trends. These capabilities are useful, but much of the sleep experience is software-driven and is not exclusive to Series 8.

Safety features: Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and Emergency SOS

Crash Detection

Crash Detection was a headline Series 8 feature. The watch uses an improved high-g accelerometer, gyroscope, and sensor-fusion algorithms to identify a suspected severe vehicle crash. It can prompt the user to respond and, if the user appears unresponsive, can attempt to contact emergency services.

It is designed for severe car crashes, not every collision or accident. Emergency calling requires an available cellular connection, Wi-Fi Calling with an internet connection, or a nearby iPhone, depending on the model and circumstances. It is a safety aid, not a guarantee that a crash will be detected or that emergency services will be reached. Apple explains the requirements in its Crash Detection support documentation.

Fall Detection and Emergency SOS

Fall Detection and Emergency SOS are also included. Their behavior and emergency-calling availability depend on the user’s region, network, cellular setup, and connection to an iPhone or Wi-Fi. These features add meaningful value to a low-priced used watch, but buyers should configure and test the emergency-contact information rather than assuming the feature is ready immediately after pairing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fitness, workouts, and outdoor tracking

The Series 8 supports workouts including running, cycling, swimming, walking, hiking, HIIT, strength training, yoga, rowing, elliptical, dance, multisport, and Pilates, among others. It provides heart-rate zones, custom workouts, intervals, GPS route data, elevation, compass information, and an always-on altimeter.

Depending on the installed watchOS version and workout mode, runners can access metrics such as pace, stride length, vertical oscillation, and running power. Supported watchOS versions also provide features such as route-related tools and Backtrack-related functionality where applicable.

For ordinary running, walking, gym work, cycling, and swimming, the Series 8 remains a credible fitness watch. Its limitations become clearer for serious outdoor use: it lacks the Ultra line’s larger battery, rugged titanium construction, siren, Action button, and more specialized outdoor hardware. Independent sports testing and launch reviews from DC Rainmaker found the watch broadly strong for everyday fitness, while also placing its improvements in the context of incremental Apple Watch generations.

Many workout improvements arrived through watchOS 9 and were available on other compatible Apple Watch models. That means a Series 8 is not necessarily the best choice simply because a buyer wants newer running metrics; software compatibility and battery condition may matter more.

Battery life and charging

Apple rated a new Series 8 for up to 18 hours of normal use and up to 36 hours with Low Power Mode under its stated test conditions. It can charge from 0% to approximately 80% in about 45 minutes when used with the proper USB-C magnetic fast-charging cable.

Those figures describe new hardware under controlled usage, not the runtime of a four-year-old used watch. In 2026, battery health is one of the most important factors in the purchase decision. A watch with 82% capacity may require a midday charge, particularly with cellular use, GPS workouts, frequent notifications, or sleep tracking.

Low Power Mode can extend runtime, but it is not a free improvement. Depending on the settings and situation, it can disable the always-on display, reduce or disable background heart-rate and blood-oxygen measurements, disable some heart-health notifications, limit cellular and Wi-Fi behavior when the iPhone is not nearby, update complications and apps less frequently, and reduce the frequency of GPS and heart-rate readings during certain workouts.

Maximum Capacity Buying interpretation
90% or higher Desirable for a used Series 8
85%–89% Acceptable only with a meaningful discount
Below 80% Generally avoid unless the price reflects likely battery service and shorter runtime

These thresholds are editorial guidance, not Apple’s official grading system. Apple says Apple Watch rechargeable batteries are designed to retain up to 80% of their original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions, although actual results vary with use and charging conditions. Battery service eligibility and cost depend on inspection and location; use Apple’s Watch repair page rather than relying on an old fixed price.

Compatibility with iPhone and watchOS

Current iPhone requirements

At launch, the Series 8 required an iPhone 8 or later running iOS 16 or later. That is only the original pairing requirement. To run watchOS 26, Apple requires an iPhone 11 or later, or an iPhone SE, second generation or later, running iOS 26.

In practical terms, an older iPhone may pair with a Series 8 running an older watchOS release, but it cannot provide the current watchOS 26 setup. Apple Watch also does not officially pair with Android phones. Buyers should confirm the iPhone model and iOS version before purchasing, especially when buying for a family member with an older phone. See Apple’s Apple Watch and iPhone compatibility page.

watchOS 26 is current; watchOS 27 is the warning sign

As of August 9, 2026, watchOS 26 supports Apple Watch Series 6 and later, including Series 8. However, Apple’s watchOS 27 preview list begins with the Apple Watch SE 3 and Series 9, followed by Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2, and Ultra 3. Series 8 is absent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That omission strongly suggests that watchOS 26 will be the Series 8’s final major watchOS version. It is an inference from Apple’s published compatibility lists, not a formal Apple statement specifying the date on which all support or security updates will end. The distinction matters: a watch can continue receiving some security or bug-fix support without receiving every new major feature.

For the current compatibility information, compare Apple’s watchOS 26 announcement with the watchOS 27 preview page.

Apple Watch Series 8 review: what still feels good and what feels dated

What still feels modern

  • The display: The always-on OLED screen remains convenient for checking the time, workout metrics, and complications without an exaggerated wrist raise.
  • Health coverage: ECG, heart-rate notifications, sleep tracking, cycle tracking, wrist-temperature sensing, and AFib-related features offer more health functionality than Apple’s lower-cost models may provide, subject to region and software availability.
  • Safety: Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and Emergency SOS remain meaningful features for users who value emergency assistance.
  • iPhone integration: Notifications, calls, messages, Apple Health, Apple Fitness, Apple Pay, music controls, and device-unlocking features work within Apple’s ecosystem.
  • Charging: Fast charging makes it easier to charge before sleep or during a shower, even though the watch still has a roughly one-day battery design.
  • Everyday fitness: GPS, heart-rate tracking, workout variety, and route recording remain sufficient for most casual and intermediate users.

What feels dated

  • Battery aging: A used Series 8 may no longer last a full day, and replacing the battery can undermine the value of a low-priced purchase.
  • Incremental performance: The S8 was not a dramatic performance leap over the Series 7 or other recent Apple Watches.
  • Software runway: Its absence from the watchOS 27 preview means buyers should not expect the same long-term support as a newer Series 9, 10, or 11.
  • One-day endurance: Low Power Mode helps, but it reduces or limits features that some owners bought the watch to use.
  • Regional limitations: Blood Oxygen and certain health features depend on the exact country, model, sale date, and software.
  • Outdoor limitations: It lacks the Ultra family’s larger battery, siren, Action button, titanium case, and more specialized outdoor positioning and durability features.

The overall review consensus remains consistent: the Series 8 is polished and useful, but its 2022 hardware update was modest. TechRadar, Tom’s Guide, and DC Rainmaker each highlight the excellent display and broad health and fitness package while noting the one-day battery and incremental nature of the upgrade.

Best Apple Watch Series 8 deals in 2026

The safest deal is not always the cheapest listing. A $100 watch with no return rights, an 76% battery, and an Activation Lock problem is not a bargain. A $150 watch with 90% battery health, a 30-day return window, a one-year warranty, and a verified charger can be the better purchase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to look for in a listing

Require the seller to state:

  • 41mm or 45mm case size
  • Aluminum or stainless-steel construction
  • GPS or GPS + Cellular
  • Country or region of sale
  • Battery Health and Maximum Capacity percentage
  • Exact model number, especially for cellular versions
  • Screen and cosmetic condition
  • Whether the charger is Apple, third-party, or missing
  • Warranty length and provider
  • Return period and who pays return shipping
  • Confirmation that Activation Lock has been removed

Inspection checklist when it arrives

  1. Power and charging: Confirm that the watch starts, accepts a charge, and reaches the pairing screen normally.
  2. Activation Lock: Pair it with your iPhone. It must not ask for another person’s Apple Account credentials. If it does, return it; do not accept a seller’s promise that it can be bypassed.
  3. Battery: Open Settings → Battery → Battery Health → Maximum Capacity and compare the result with the listing.
  4. Display and touch: Check for cracks, dead pixels, burn-in-like damage, brightness problems, and unresponsive areas around the edges.
  5. Controls: Test the Digital Crown, side button, haptics, microphone, speaker, and touchscreen.
  6. Sensors: Confirm that heart-rate readings appear and that ECG is available if the model and region should support it.
  7. Connectivity: Test Wi-Fi, GPS during an outdoor workout, and cellular activation if LTE was advertised.
  8. Accessories: Verify that the included cable is compatible and that the watch does not become unusually hot while charging.
  9. Water exposure: Do not treat a third-party refurbisher’s water-resistance claim as equivalent to a new Apple Watch. Back Market specifically warns that refurbished watches are not guaranteed to be waterproof or to retain their original water resistance.

Apple describes the Series 8 as water resistant to 50 meters, not waterproof. Avoid buying a used unit for swimming when the seller cannot explain its condition, because seals can deteriorate after age, impact, or repair.

Apple Watch Series 8 versus current alternatives

Series 8 vs Apple Watch SE 3

The Apple Watch SE 3 starts at $249 in the U.S. It is the better long-term purchase for someone who wants a new, supported Apple Watch and mainly needs notifications, activity tracking, workouts, safety tools, and Apple ecosystem integration.

It is not automatically a like-for-like substitute for the Series 8. The Series 8’s appeal is its higher-tier health and display package, including ECG and wrist-temperature sensing, although regional availability and current SE 3 specifications should be checked directly before making a sensor-by-sensor comparison. If a used Series 8 costs $150, its added features can justify the trade-off. If it costs $220–$240, the new SE 3’s warranty and longer software runway become much more persuasive.

Series 8 vs a refurbished Series 9 or Series 10

A refurbished Series 9 or Series 10 is often the most important comparison for a Series 8 buyer. These newer generations should offer a longer major-software runway and may be available close enough in price to change the decision. Compare battery health, warranty, case material, and cellular capability rather than focusing only on the model number.

Do not pay a premium for a stainless-steel Series 8 without checking newer refurbished models first. Sapphire glass and the heavier premium case are attractive, but the watch can become poor value if it costs as much as a newer aluminum model with more remaining support.

Series 8 vs Apple Watch Series 11

The current Apple Watch Series 11 starts at $399 in the U.S. It offers newer hardware, a longer support horizon, a newer watchOS experience, and newer health-related capabilities. It is the sensible choice for a buyer who wants to keep the watch for several years or who finds a supposedly “new” Series 8 priced anywhere near it.

The Series 8 remains compelling only when the used price is dramatically lower and the buyer is comfortable treating watchOS 26 as its likely final major version.

Series 8 vs Apple Watch Ultra 3

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 starts at $799. It is not a direct value competitor to a $130 Series 8. The Ultra is for buyers who prioritize a larger display, longer battery life, rugged construction, cellular connectivity, and demanding outdoor or endurance use. For normal notifications, health tracking, running, and Apple Pay, the Series 8 is far less expensive and generally adequate.

Who should buy the Apple Watch Series 8?

  • An iPhone owner who wants an always-on display and ECG at a low used price.
  • A buyer who wants wrist-temperature and cycle-related insights and has confirmed regional availability.
  • Someone upgrading from an Apple Watch Series 4, 5, or 6 who wants a substantial feature improvement without paying current flagship prices.
  • A buyer who can accept watchOS 26 as the likely final major update.
  • Someone who finds a GPS aluminum model around $120–$160 with roughly 90% or better battery health and a real return policy.
  • A buyer who normally carries an iPhone and therefore does not need cellular service.

Who should skip it?

  • Anyone paying close to the $249 price of a new Apple Watch SE 3.
  • Anyone who can buy a refurbished Series 9, Series 10, or Series 11 at only a small premium.
  • A buyer receiving a watch with battery health below 80% unless the discount is substantial.
  • Someone who needs multi-day battery life, advanced outdoor positioning, rugged construction, or serious endurance-sports capability.
  • An Android phone owner; Apple Watch does not officially pair with Android.
  • A buyer who specifically requires Blood Oxygen on a U.S. watch but cannot verify the unit’s region, sale date, and part number.
  • Anyone who wants access to future watchOS 27 features and a longer major-software runway.
  • A shopper whose seller cannot identify the exact model, connectivity, battery health, account-lock status, warranty, or return terms.

Bottom-line buying recommendation

Buy the Apple Watch Series 8 in 2026 only when the price reflects its age. A healthy aluminum GPS model around $120–$160 remains a strong used purchase, while a 45mm or cellular aluminum model around $150–$200 can also make sense. Require good battery health, a clean pairing state, a verified model, and a meaningful return window.

Above about $200, compare carefully with a refurbished Series 9 or Series 10 and the $249 Apple Watch SE 3. If a Series 8 is priced near a refurbished Series 11 or a new current model, choose the newer watch. The Series 8 still offers a lot, but its value comes from a low purchase price—not from being a current flagship.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Apple Watch Series 8 support watchOS 26?

Yes. As of August 9, 2026, Series 8 supports watchOS 26 when paired with an iPhone 11 or later, or an iPhone SE second generation or later, running iOS 26. Series 8 is absent from Apple’s watchOS 27 preview list, suggesting watchOS 26 is likely its final major version.

Does Blood Oxygen work on every Apple Watch Series 8?

No. Blood Oxygen availability depends on the country of sale, model, sale date, and part number. U.S. units sold on or after January 18, 2024, with part numbers ending in LW/A use an altered experience in which analysis occurs on the paired iPhone. Verify the exact unit before buying if this feature matters.

Can an Apple Watch Series 8 pair with Android?

No. Apple Watch does not officially pair with Android phones. It requires a compatible iPhone.

The Bottom Line

Verdict: The Apple Watch Series 8 is worth buying in 2026 only as a discounted used or refurbished watch. Aim for $120–$170 for a healthy aluminum model, verify battery health and regional features, and insist on a return policy. At or above $200, newer refurbished Apple Watches or the $249 Apple Watch SE 3 are usually the smarter long-term choices.
