The Aramar Walrus is a Dutch-designed, 1970s-inspired automatic dive watch with a 40.5 mm cushion case and a stated 200 m water-resistance rating. Its Kickstarter campaign failed in 2020, despite a launch-era €399 price. An owner later reported obtaining one, but current stock and pricing are unverified. There is also a movement discrepancy: launch and review coverage name an ETA 2824-2, while a 2021 owner post lists a Sellita SW-200.
What is the Aramar Walrus?
The Walrus is a contemporary watch designed in the Netherlands around 1970s dive-watch styling; it is not a verified vintage watch or a direct copy of one historical model. Monochrome reported that production was planned in China, excluding the movement. Its cushion-shaped case and sapphire bezel insert reinterpret design cues associated with vintage divers, including the look of Bakelite bezels. Monochrome Watches, December 4, 2019
The launch coverage named two versions: Walrus Orange, with a black dial and orange accents, and Walrus Blue, with a blue sunburst dial and silver markers and hands. The design inspiration cited in coverage includes the Edox Hydro Sub, Enicar Star Diver and Zodiac Sea Wolf; a forum thread reproduces a longer list that also includes models from Zenith, Tissot and Girard-Perregaux. These are stated inspirations, not evidence of identical construction or direct lineage. Fratello Watches, January 10, 2020 Horlogeforum.nl, November 29, 2019

Fratello noted that its prototype mesh bracelet could not be resized beyond clasp micro-adjustment. The publication said Aramar told it the final bracelet would be shorter, aimed at an approximately 18 cm wrist. That is a report about the prototypes and an attributed assurance, not a fit guarantee for every watch. The reported 84-click bezel is an unusual count; do not assume it provides conventional minute-by-minute alignment for timing. Fratello Watches, January 10, 2020

Which movement does the Walrus use?
The available accounts conflict, so the movement should be checked on the specific watch rather than assumed from the model name.
- Monochrome’s December 2019 launch report specifies a standard-grade ETA 2824-2, with a 38-hour power reserve, 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Source
- Fratello’s January 2020 review also identifies an ETA 2824-2, but gives a reserve of up to 42 hours and notes hacking and quick-set date. Source
- A March 2021 owner-forum post lists a Sellita SW-200 for a Walrus the poster said they had obtained. The post does not establish whether this reflects a production change, a listing error or a different example. Source
Ask for movement documentation tied to the individual watch, or have a watchmaker inspect it, before buying if the movement matters to you.

What was the Kickstarter price, and did the campaign succeed?
Monochrome’s December 2019 launch article advertised €399 for the first 300 backers and an optional €35 rubber strap. Delivery was then expected in June 2020; those were campaign-era terms, not evidence of present pricing. Monochrome Watches, December 4, 2019
Fratello reported in January 2020 that the Kickstarter did not reach its €30,000 goal: it had 18 backers, who pledged about half the target. The same article described Aramar’s conditional plan to offer a direct pre-order at €399 for the watch with mesh bracelet and rubber strap. That offer depended on reaching at least 20 sales before March 1, 2020; otherwise, the project would be canceled. This is a historical offer, not a current one. Fratello Watches, January 10, 2020

Can you buy an Aramar Walrus now?
A March 2021 Horlogeforum.nl post reports that its author had obtained a Walrus, showing that at least one owner reported having a watch after the failed campaign. It does not establish general production or current availability. No current official inventory, live seller, resale price or active Amazon listing was verified in the sources cited here. Treat €399 as a historical campaign figure, not a present-day asking price. Horlogeforum.nl, March 12, 2021
If you encounter a listing, confirm the seller, condition, included bracelet or strap, movement and return terms directly. The Walrus’s documented lug width is 22 mm, but that alone does not establish compatibility with a particular replacement strap or fitted end piece.
