Its story reaches further back, but the company’s defining idea today is easy to see: “transparent mechanics,” an openworked design approach that puts the movement in view.
How Armin Strom’s modern manufacture began
Armin Strom dates the opening of its Biel/Bienne manufacture to 2009. The company says Serge Michel, a watch enthusiast and business force, and master watchmaker Claude Greisler led the undertaking, with the aim of making innovative, high-quality watches in-house and developing their own movement concepts. The date marks the beginning of the modern manufacture, not the beginning of every chapter in the Armin Strom name’s history.
The brand says its wider story predates Biel and points to earlier watchmaking activity in Burgdorf. Its public account does not establish a complete, independently corroborated chronology of that period, so it is more accurate to distinguish the earlier history from the clearly dated 2009 manufacture than to treat them as one fully documented timeline. Armin Strom’s manufacture account describes the company’s own version of its origins.
What “transparent mechanics” means
Armin Strom uses “transparent mechanics” to describe watches designed to make their movements a prominent part of the visual experience. Openworked components and movement-forward layouts expose the construction and finishing that would be hidden behind a conventional dial. The design is not simply a decorative cutout: the movement architecture becomes central to how the watch looks.
The company says it develops and makes nearly all movement components in-house, hand-finishes its watches, and deliberately limits annual output. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of its methods and production philosophy, not independently audited measures. Its stated purpose is to make visible the work and precision invested in each watch. The brand’s about page presents this approach under the transparent-mechanics idea.

They differ in the kind of watchmaking idea they emphasize, from reworked fundamentals to resonance and more elaborate complications. The collection page is the best starting point for checking which models the brand currently presents; a collection listing does not by itself confirm that a particular configuration is in stock.

When comparing individual models, look beyond the collection name. Complication and movement architecture affect what the watch does; case material and dimensions shape wearability; dial treatment and finishing change how the mechanics read; and edition status, price, and water resistance matter for ownership. Those details are model-specific, so one watch’s specifications should not be assumed to apply across a family.
Recent releases and a concrete price example
The brand’s press index records releases across 2025 and 2026, including Tribute³ Au750, listed on 2 October 2026; Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture Edition Blue, listed on 31 August 2026; and Mirrored Force Resonance Red, listed on 15 July 2026. It also lists 2025–2026 releases such as Orbit Midnight Purple and Tribute² Aurum. These dates establish when the brand announced products, not whether a watch remains available to order today. One model-specific price reference is the Dual Time GMT Resonance Manufacture Edition, reference ST25-DT.90. Its official product listing gives a price of CHF 95,000 and specifies a 39 mm stainless-steel case, 5 ATM water resistance, and calibre ARF22. Resonance as a design and historical reference
Armin Strom’s resonance watches center on two balance springs and the company’s resonance mechanism. In discussing the Dual Time GMT Resonance, the brand frames the concept through historical resonance timekeeping, referring to Antide Janvier’s resonance clock and Christiaan Huygens’s experiments. That is the company’s account of its inspiration; it should not be read as independent evidence of a particular performance advantage in a specific model. Where to buy and how to check authenticity
Armin Strom directs buyers to its authorized retailer network and sells directly for select models and services. The brand’s FAQ recommends purchasing through an authorized retailer or the manufacture and says an individual reference number can be used to verify authenticity. If considering a third-party listing, confirm the seller’s authorization and check that the watch’s reference details match the listing rather than assuming a marketplace or seller is approved.
