Its seconds hand advances in one-second jumps, and pulling the crown stops that hand so the watch can be synchronized to a reference time. The launch comprises 18 red-gold watches at CHF46,000 and 18 platinum watches at CHF56,800, prices including VAT.
What the DSTB Stop-Seconds does
“DSTB” refers to Arnold & Son’s dial-side true-beat seconds architecture. Instead of appearing to sweep continuously, the long seconds hand waits and then moves exactly once when each second has elapsed. The new Stop-Seconds version adds a practical setting feature: pulling the crown halts the seconds hand, and pushing the crown back in starts it again. WatchTime’s October 15, 2026 launch report identifies the movement as Arnold & Son’s self-winding manufacture A&S6303 and places the debut at WatchTime New York 2026, held at Gotham Hall from October 16 to 18.

True-beat seconds should not be confused with a quartz module. The one-second cadence is produced by a mechanical mechanism that controls the seconds train while the balance and escapement continue regulating the movement.
How true-beat or deadbeat seconds works
One visible jump per second
In an ordinary mechanical watch, the escapement divides each second into several small impulses, so the seconds hand appears to glide. True-beat seconds deliberately restrains that hand and releases it once per second. Arnold & Son’s operating manual describes the action this way: “The true beat seconds (also known as dead seconds) jumps forward when the second has elapsed.” The DSTB operating manual explains the function and its operation.

The dial-side display
The DSTB makes the regulating action part of the watch’s visual identity. Three bridges, two wheels, a lever fitted with a ruby pallet and an anchor-shaped counterweight are visible on the dial side. The counterweight and lever visibly lock and release the seconds mechanism, while the long hand makes its one-second jump. Arnold & Son’s DSTB 42 collection page documents this bridge-and-counterweight layout; the manual provides the corresponding component description.
What the stop-seconds function adds
True-beat seconds tells you when each second has passed; stop-seconds lets you choose the second at which the watch starts. Pulling the crown stops the seconds hand. With the crown out, you can position the hour and minute hands. Returning the crown to its running position releases the seconds mechanism. WatchTime’s launch report and Oracle of Time’s DSTB coverage identify this crown-operated halt-and-restart capability as the new synchronization feature.
Why there is an anchor on the dial
The anchor is a functional counterweight, not merely decoration. It is part of the visible stop-and-release system that governs the deadbeat seconds hand. The design also points to John Arnold’s marine-chronometer heritage. Arnold & Son’s manual notes that longitude was historically expressed in degrees, minutes and seconds, and says the function “harks back to marine chronometers as the longitude was at that time defined in seconds and not in fractions of a second.” The brand’s chronometry history places deadbeat seconds in that navigation context.

These prices and quantities come from WatchTime’s October 15, 2026 launch coverage and can change with availability, currency and retailer terms. The report specifies 42 mm cases but does not publish a thickness or water-resistance figure for the new A&S6303 watch.
DSTB versus DSTB Stop-Seconds
The Stop-Seconds is an evolution of the earlier DSTB 42 rather than a different display concept. The key distinction is synchronization: the new model explicitly stops the seconds hand through the crown, while earlier DSTB 42 product descriptions document the true-beat display without identifying this new stop-seconds control.
| Characteristic | DSTB Stop-Seconds | Earlier DSTB 42 Red Gold series |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | A&S6303 | A&S6203 |
| Seconds display | Dial-side true-beat seconds plus crown-operated stop-seconds | Dial-side true-beat seconds |
| Case diameter | 42 mm | 42 mm |
| Edition information | 18 red-gold pieces and 18 platinum pieces | 88-piece red-gold series |
Keep the technical specifications separate. Arnold & Son’s current DSTB 42 page lists the related A&S6203 at 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), 12.95 mm thick and rated to 3 bar (30 m/100 ft). Those figures describe the A&S6203 DSTB 42 reference, not a published specification sheet for the new A&S6303 Stop-Seconds.

How to synchronize the watch to a reference second
- Use a trusted reference clock that shows seconds, such as a radio-controlled or network-synchronized time display.
- Pull the crown out to engage the stop-seconds function. Confirm that the long seconds hand has stopped.
- Set the hour and minute hands to the required time while the seconds hand remains halted.
- At the chosen reference instant, push the crown back in. The seconds mechanism resumes, allowing the watch to start on that reference second.
Your release timing still depends on how precisely you operate the crown. No independent timing test or accuracy result for the A&S6303 Stop-Seconds has been published in the launch material, so the stop-seconds mechanism should be understood as a synchronization aid, not a guarantee of chronometer-level rate performance.
Who should consider it
- Choose the concept for its mechanical display: the one-second jump and exposed anchor mechanism make the regulating action unusually legible from the dial side.
- Choose the Stop-Seconds version for synchronization: the crown-operated halt is the meaningful functional change over earlier DSTB 42 references.
- Plan for a specialist purchase: with only 18 pieces in each metal, availability is limited. Contact an authorized Arnold & Son retailer and confirm the metal, dial, VAT treatment, delivery timing and warranty before committing.
What to verify before buying
Launch prices, remaining stock and event availability are volatile. Ask the retailer to confirm that the watch is the A&S6303 Stop-Seconds model rather than an A&S6203 DSTB 42, and request the current technical sheet for thickness, water resistance and service information. The published launch data establishes the 55-hour reserve, 42 mm case and 22-carat-gold rotor, but it does not provide an independent accuracy test.
