The Atelier de Chronométrie AdC16 is the Barcelona-based independent watchmaker’s first classic chronograph with two counters. Its new hand-wound S440 calibre reinterprets the Valjoux 23, pairing vintage-derived architecture and styling with redesigned components and extensive hand finishing. The details below describe the example reported by Hodinkee; AdC says customers can participate in creating and customizing their watches.
What is the Atelier de Chronométrie AdC16?
AdC describes the AdC16 as its first classic chronograph with two counters. The brand calls the S440 “a new interpretation aesthetically and mechanically of the mythic calibre Valjoux23,” and says its organic geometry gives the calibre volume and depth while retaining vintage-style aesthetics. Those are the watchmaker’s descriptions of its design, not an independent assessment.
That combination is the point of the model: it draws on a mid-century chronograph movement and familiar dress-watch proportions, but the S440 is not simply presented as an untouched vintage calibre. Hodinkee’s launch report describes changes to the mechanism and a substantial finishing program. Atelier de Chronométrie’s official site outlines the brand’s approach to making individual watches; Hodinkee’s October 7, 2026 report provides the example’s specifications and quoted commercial details.
Calibre S440: the Valjoux 23, reworked
Hodinkee identifies the Valjoux 23 as the S440’s base architecture. The report says AdC redesigned several bridges and levers, changed the balance wheel and escapement, and incorporated a classic clutch. It also describes an instantaneous jumping minute counter for the chronograph, which advances to the next minute rather than moving gradually around the subdial.

Finishing and construction
Hodinkee reports hand-made bridges in specified locations and describes a mix of surface treatments: palladium-plated frosted bridges and mainplate, black polish, anglage, perlage, polished countersinks, straight graining and étirage des flancs. The last term refers to linear finishing on the sides of components. Together with the redesigned parts, these treatments distinguish the reported S440 from a simple restoration or cosmetic reworking of a Valjoux 23.
The reported AdC16 example: case, dial and options
Hodinkee describes a 36 mm Calatrava-style case, with a design reminiscent of the Vacheron Constantin 4072. The reported example combines stainless steel with 18k yellow gold. Its black, gilt-style dial has applied yellow-gold markers and hands. Hodinkee’s journalist suggested the dial may be pad-printed rather than made using the original galvanic process; that is an interpretation in the report, not a confirmed production detail.

The report shows the watch on a black leather strap and says a handmade two-tone beads-of-rice bracelet is another option. AdC allows clients to customize the case and dial and choose movement finishing, so the pictured materials and configuration should not be read as fixed specifications for every AdC16.
Hodinkee did not provide case thickness or water resistance. Those figures cannot be inferred reliably from the diameter, appearance or specifications of other AdC watches.

Price and order availability
Hodinkee reported that the brand quoted a bespoke price of €140,000–€150,000, depending on customization. In the same October 7, 2026 report, it said the order sheet was full until 2030. Both are dated commercial details rather than a guarantee of the price or queue today; prospective clients should confirm current terms and availability directly with AdC. The official brand description identifies the model and calibre but does not publish a price or order timeline.
