What is the Atelier Wen Ancestra 蛟 (JIĀO)?
Ancestra is a mechanical wristwatch from Atelier Wen, a brand whose design language draws on Chinese culture and craft. The JIĀO brings those references into the watch’s case, dial and decorated movement, while its movement is based on a calibre made by France’s Pequignet. Atelier Wen announced the launch edition on July 29, 2025, and said its pre-order window would run through August 4, 2025. The brand described the edition as permanently retired after that window.

How do the case and dial express the design?
Case inspired by jade carvings
Atelier Wen says the case takes inspiration from Hongshan jade dragon carvings, known as 猪龙 (zhū lóng). The stainless-steel case is 38 mm in diameter, 46 mm lug-to-lug and 11.3 mm thick, or 9.05 mm excluding the crystals. It is made from 904L stainless steel, has a screw-down crown and is rated to 100 m/10 ATM water resistance.
Hammered silver and grand feu enamel
The dial starts with a hand-hammered 925 silver base beneath grand feu fumé enamel. Atelier Wen describes the dial’s pale silvery center fading toward a deep cobalt edge as a layered enamel effect over that textured base. Its product listing describes six cumulative firings at 750–850°C and an approximately 50% failure rate; those are the brand’s production claims, and no underlying dataset is provided in the listing.

Two numeral choices
The launch listing offered a choice between traditional Chinese odd-hour markers and Western-Arabic even-hour markers. Both versions include alternating lab-grown baguette-cut diamonds. The numeral system changes the dial’s character, but not the core case or movement specifications listed by the brand.
What movement is in the Ancestra JIĀO?
It uses a heavily customized Pequignet Calibre EPM03. Atelier Wen identifies it as French-made and lists both bi-directional automatic and manual winding, 21 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, a 65-hour power reserve and hacking seconds.
Atelier Wen states an accuracy of −4/+6 seconds per day and an average of ±2 seconds per day. It says the movement is adjusted in six positions and to three temperatures, and that it underwent 16 continuous days of observation and testing. The brand also says it meets the standards of the Observatoire Chronométrique de Besançon. These are manufacturer claims; they should not be read as independent test results.
What is engraved on the movement?
Atelier Wen says a movement bridge is micro-etched with 446 characters from 天问 (tiān wèn), a poem it attributes to 屈原 (Qūyuán). The brand presents the engraving as another expression of the watch’s Chinese cultural references, alongside the Hongshan-inspired case and the dial craft.

Availability, delivery and price
The launch pre-order period ran from July 29 through August 4, 2025. Atelier Wen said the edition would be retired after the window and planned delivery for Q2 2026. Its Singapore product listing displays “Order window now closed.” That establishes the close of the direct launch window, not whether an individual watch can currently be found on the secondary market.
The Singapore listing showed S$7,500 for the watch and S$350 for the suede strap when checked in the listing represented by the available product information. Those are regional listing prices, not a global price guarantee, and may change.

The listed full-grain leather strap is 20 mm wide at the case and tapers to 16 mm at the buckle; it uses quick-release spring bars. Atelier Wen also listed a separate lambskin suede strap. A 20 mm strap is a sensible starting point when looking for an alternative, but width alone does not ensure compatibility. Check the case-end shape, strap thickness, spring-bar dimensions and buckle or clasp requirements.
Atelier Wen’s product page states a five-year warranty from delivery and describes after-sales support through global watchmaker partners. Check the current warranty terms for exclusions, coverage limits and region-specific details.
