The BALL Engineer M Skindiver III Beyond (reference DD3100A-S2C-BE) is a 41.5 mm automatic dive watch built around an unusual detail: its unidirectional sapphire timing bezel also carries micro gas tubes for night reading. BALL specifies 300 m water resistance, COSC certification and an 80-hour power reserve. The video review considers its design and presence on the wrist; its impressions are reviewer opinion, not laboratory test results.
What the Skindiver III Beyond adds to the Skindiver idea
The Beyond pairs skin-diver styling with a robust set of published specifications. Its blue dial and steel bracelet keep the look familiar, while the sapphire bezel with luminous micro gas tubes is the defining feature. BALL describes the bezel as “Uni-directional rotating sapphire bezel with micro gas tubes for night reading capability.” The official US product page identifies the model as a limited edition of 1,000. BALL’s official listing gives the full reference and specifications.
Dimensions and fit: is it too large?
It is not a compact, vintage-proportioned diver. BALL lists a 41.5 mm case diameter, 13.8 mm height, 52 mm lug-to-lug and 22 mm lug width, with approximate weight of 180 g. Time+Tide describes the dimensions as a substantial package for skin-diver styling and gives a lug-to-lug measurement of around 50.5 mm, rather than BALL’s 52 mm. Measurement methods can differ; use the manufacturer’s figure as the official specification, and try the watch on if fit is a concern. Time+Tide’s video review also comments on the dial’s visual design.
How the bezel and lume work
The timing bezel rotates in one direction, the usual dive-watch arrangement for tracking elapsed time. Its sapphire construction sets it apart from a conventional insert, and BALL says the bezel contains micro gas tubes. The company lists 35 tubes across the bezel, dial and hands for night reading. The official specification does not break down the number by location.

Time+Tide draws attention to illumination from both the bezel and dial. That is the reviewer’s observation, rather than a quantified brightness or duration test. Scuba Diving’s review recounts the reviewer timing a swim and navigating during a dive; it is a reported use account, not an independent water-resistance certification test.

The 300 m rating is the manufacturer’s stated water resistance, not a recommendation to operate the crown underwater. For diving, follow the watch’s instructions and use dive timing as a backup to appropriate dive equipment and procedures.
What the video review says about the design
Time+Tide likes the visual impact of the sapphire bezel and illumination, but criticizes the dial typography and other flourishes. Those comments are subjective design judgments: the mixed lettering may appeal to some buyers and distract others. The review is useful for seeing the blue dial and the watch’s proportions in context, but it does not replace trying the watch on or establish a controlled comparison with competing models.
