The BALL Engineer Master II Diver TMT measures temperature inside the watchcase—not the surrounding air directly. On your wrist, body heat influences that reading. For a closer ambient-temperature reading, BALL says to remove the watch for about ten minutes.
What does the TMT thermometer actually tell you?
It shows the temperature inside the watchcase. BALL’s owner’s manual describes the TMT reading as “precise and instantaneous,” but notes that the case temperature is inevitably affected by the wearer’s wrist. So while you are wearing the watch, the display is not necessarily an immediate reading of the air around you.
BALL specifies a display range of −35°C to +45°C (−30°F to +110°F), with the temperature indicator at 6 o’clock. The manual gives the conversion formula as °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and says a conversion scale is printed on the caseback. How to get an ambient-temperature reading
- Remove the watch and leave it off your wrist for about ten minutes, as BALL’s manual recommends.
- Read the indicator after the case has had time to adjust to its surroundings.
BALL also says the watch should display ambient temperature without body-heat distortion when worn over a wetsuit or parka. That is a practical qualification: the TMT senses the case, so insulation between the case and the wearer can reduce the influence of wrist heat.

What is established about the Diver TMT?
BALL’s manual lists DT1016, DT1020, DT1026 and NT1050 among its TMT models. That supports describing DT1020 as part of the TMT family, but it does not establish the reviewed watch’s full reference suffix or every specification for a particular configuration. Confirm the full reference against the caseback or original paperwork before relying on reference-specific specifications.
The manual describes the Engineer Master II Diver’s inner bezel as a duration-measuring bezel and says it incorporates H3 micro gas tubes for night reading. It also instructs owners of certain models to screw down the crown before diving to ensure optimal water resistance. The crown arrangement and bezel operation should be checked against the instructions for the exact reference rather than assumed to apply identically to every TMT model.

Why specifications from other Diver models may not apply
BALL’s current product page for the Engineer Master II Diver reference DM1020A-PAJ-BKOR lists the following configuration. The page does not identify that reference as a TMT model, so these figures should not be attributed to DT1020 or another TMT reference without confirmation. BALL DM1020A-PAJ-BKOR product page

A separate BALL announcement from June 29, 2021 concerns the Engineer Master II Diver Chronometer, not the TMT. It describes a 42 mm steel case, 300 m water resistance, 1,000 Gauss anti-magnetic protection, a bi-directional sapphire inner bezel and an RR1101-C COSC-certified caliber. What to verify before buying or comparing one
Because “Engineer Master II Diver TMT” covers multiple listed model names and the exact suffix of a particular watch matters, ask for clear caseback photographs and original documentation. For a useful comparison with another diver, match exact references and check:
- Temperature display behavior and range.
- Case diameter, thickness and lug-to-lug length.
- Water resistance and the required crown operation.
- Bezel position, direction and legibility.
- Low-light illumination type, movement and chronometer status.
- Anti-magnetic and shock protection, strap or bracelet options, and service requirements.
For a marketplace listing, verify that the watch is genuinely the TMT version and that its full reference is stated. Current stock, seller identity, price and the exact suffix/configuration are not established here.

Service interval
BALL’s owner’s manual recommends periodic checks, cleaning and lubrication every three to five years by BALL or a BALL Authorized Service Center. Confirm current service arrangements with BALL before sending a watch for work. BALL owner’s manual
