Its 40.5mm case, 100m water resistance and 38-hour reserve make for a capable everyday specification, but its £3,600–£3,900 UK prices and $4,500 US bracelet listing put it firmly in premium territory. The bezel adds an orientation reference rather than a substitute for a map or navigation training; the power-reserve display is a practical reminder of how much wind remains.
What the Terra Nova 40.5 offers
Bremont frames the Terra Nova collection around military pocket watches of the early 20th century. This model translates that field-watch influence into a 40.5mm automatic wristwatch with central hours and minutes, a date at 3 o’clock, running seconds at 9, and a power-reserve indicator at 6. The bi-directional bezel is marked with cardinal directions. Bremont describes the small-seconds display as a reference to vintage field watches. Bremont’s black NATO product page
Its design is more instrument-like than a stripped-back three-hand field watch: the date and power-reserve subdial add useful information, while the rotating compass bezel gives the watch a distinctive purpose-oriented detail. Whether that makes it a better buy depends on whether you value those functions and the materials enough to justify the price.
How the compass bezel and power-reserve display work
Bi-directional compass bezel
The bezel rotates in either direction and carries compass directions, giving the wearer a quick orientation reference. Bremont’s product information identifies the bezel but does not provide a worked navigation tutorial. It should therefore be treated as an aid, not as a replacement for a map, compass skills or dedicated navigation equipment.

Power-reserve indicator
The subdial at 6 o’clock indicates how much wind remains in the automatic movement. Bremont publishes a 38-hour power reserve for the watch. The display helps show when the movement is running low, but the product information does not specify a separate measured endurance for particular wearing patterns.

These are different strap or bracelet configurations, and the US figure is not directly comparable to the UK prices without accounting for market, currency and configuration. Is it worth the price?
The strongest case for the Terra Nova is its combination of a distinctive compass bezel, a useful power-reserve indication, a 904L steel case, sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance and a detailed automatic movement specification. Its 40.5mm diameter and 47mm length give buyers more information about the footprint than diameter alone, and the 22mm lugs leave room for strap changes.
The trade-off is that the premium price cannot be justified by the specifications alone. The published information does not establish measured daily accuracy, service costs, long-term durability or owner comfort. Buyers who primarily want a straightforward field watch may not use the extra bezel markings or power-reserve dial enough to value them; those who appreciate the added indications and construction details may find the package more compelling.
