The name most specifically refers to the Riviera 10749, which Baume & Mercier calls the “Riviera 50th Anniversary Special Edition.” It is a 42 mm Riviera Baumatic with a transparent blue sapphire dial and stainless-steel case and bracelet. The anniversary name also applies more broadly to other 2023 Riviera releases. Baume & Mercier announced three 39 mm versions, and a separate 40 mm perpetual-calendar limited edition was also part of the anniversary-year collection. Those watches are not reference 10749. The brand’s Riviera 50th Anniversary page and its 2023 announcement of the 39 mm models provide the wider context.
How does the Riviera 10749 fit the collection’s history?
Baume & Mercier dates the Riviera to 1973 and identifies Jean-Claude Gueit as its designer. The collection’s defining feature is its dodecagonal case and bezel: “dodecagonal” means twelve-sided. The brand describes the design as sport-chic and notes that the original Riviera paired a metal bracelet with flat links and an ESA 6192 electronic tuning-fork movement with a window date.

The 10749 revisits the collection’s angular steel-watch design with a modern automatic Baumatic movement and a transparent blue sapphire dial. Its anniversary markings point back to 1973 without making it the only Riviera released for the collection’s 50th year.

How many Riviera 50th Anniversary 10749 watches were made?
The count is not consistent across the available sources. Baume & Mercier’s current 10749 product page says the reference is limited to 273 pieces. Richemont’s Business Review 2024 describes a Riviera Baumatic 50th Anniversary limited to 250 pieces. The sources do not explain the difference. For a reference-specific description, the brand’s 10749 page is the more direct source, but the 273-piece figure should not be presented as uncontested.
