The Berneron Mirage makes its asymmetrical shape part of the movement design: the calibre layout creates room for a large barrel and direct small seconds, rather than placing a conventional round movement inside an unusual case. Its two sizes are not simply scaled versions of one watch. The 38 mm Mirage uses Calibre 233; the 34 mm uses Calibre 215, with different dimensions, dials, production figures and manufacturer-listed prices.
Why the Berneron Mirage looks different
The Mirage is the debut collection from independent designer Sylvain Berneron. At its 2023 introduction, Hodinkee highlighted its asymmetrical case and movement, gold calibre and reversed hand stack as defining features of the watch (Hodinkee’s 2023 introduction).
Berneron describes the Mirage as a shaped watch whose asymmetry derives from its calibre rather than an external shape imposed on a conventional movement. The brand says the layout lets the mechanics occupy the space they need, including a large barrel, direct small seconds and a pocket-watch-style balance wheel. In the 38 mm model, the hand set is inverted: the hour hand sits above the other hand.
Two sizes, two different calibres
The Mirage 38 and Mirage 34 each use a proprietary, hand-wound movement. Both are specified by Berneron with a 72-hour power reserve, but their dimensions, component counts and operating frequencies differ.

Berneron presents Calibre 215’s asymmetric arrangement and large barrel as a way to deliver a longer reserve within a compact footprint. The shared 72-hour specification therefore does not mean the two movements are identical: they differ in size, construction details and frequency.
What “all gold” means on the Mirage
Gold is used in multiple components, but “all gold” should not be read as meaning every part of either movement is gold. For the Prussian Blue Mirage 38, Berneron lists 18K gold for the white-gold case, dial, hands, buckle, spring bars, movement mainplate and bridges (manufacturer specifications).

For Calibre 215, the mainplate and bridges are 18K gold, while the winding and timing gears are steel. Berneron says steel is used for those gears for rigidity and torque (Calibre 215 technical details). That component-level description is more precise than calling the complete movement solid gold.

The figures below are the details shown on Berneron’s Prussian Blue 38 and Tiger Eye 34 product pages. They describe those specific variants, not every Mirage. Prices exclude VAT and are manufacturer-published figures, not confirmation of a current offer or stock.

The Tiger Eye 34 has a stone dial with a small-seconds counter hand-carved into the stone as a single piece. Berneron says the hand-carving operation takes about an hour (Tiger Eye 34 product page).

Berneron says its timepieces are conceived, developed, manufactured and assembled in the Swiss cantons of Neuchâtel and Jura (Berneron). The company also states that annual production per model will be limited to 24–36 pieces and gives approximately 600 watches annually by 2035 as a goal. That is a stated future aim, not an achieved production figure. The 48-piece annual figure on the cited Tiger Eye 34 page is variant-specific and should not be conflated with the brand’s general per-model statement.
