These seven musician-and-watch pairings are a cultural snapshot, not a ranked list: the original selection presents them “in no particular order.” Elvis Presley’s Hamilton Ventura has the clearest corroboration beyond the list itself, while several other entries are model-family associations without an exact reference established in the available sources.
Seven rock ’n’ roll watch pairings
The pairings below follow the original selection by Time+Tide Watches. Where the available account does not establish an exact model reference or independent provenance, that distinction is stated rather than guessed.

Elvis Presley — Hamilton Ventura
Time+Tide calls the Ventura Presley’s favorite watch and connects it with the 1961 film Blue Hawaii. Hamilton’s official company history corroborates that the triangular Ventura appeared on Presley in the film, while describing it as the world’s first electric watch, powered by an electromagnetic coil. The manufacturer history supports the film appearance and model history, but does not substantiate the broader claim that it was Presley’s favorite. Time+Tide’s list and Hamilton’s history provide the two accounts.
A separate story concerns a gold-filled Lord Elgin attributed to Presley by the Elvis Presley Museum, which says he gave it to Scotty Moore in 1956. That is a different watch from the Ventura shown in Blue Hawaii; the museum’s attribution should be understood as its account, supported by documentation it presents, not as independent authentication. Hamilton’s current Ventura collection is a modern product lead, not proof that every current model is identical to the vintage watch worn in the film.

Mick Jagger — Heuer Carrera
Time+Tide selects the Carrera for Jagger, citing photographic evidence compiled by OnTheDash. The same account says Jagger was also photographed wearing a Monaco and an Autavia. It does not establish an exact Carrera reference, so the association is best treated as a model-family identification rather than a precise specification. Time+Tide’s account.

John Lennon — gold Patek Philippe triple-date chronograph
The list says Lennon wore a gold Patek Philippe triple-date chronograph on his 40th birthday. It does not provide a reference number, so the description should not be narrowed to a specific reference. Time+Tide’s account.

Sammy Davis Jr. — Heuer Monaco
Time+Tide describes Davis wearing a Monaco with fatigues during a 1972 USO tour of Vietnam. The account identifies the model family, but the available material does not independently verify the pictured watch or give an exact reference. Time+Tide’s account.

Eric Clapton — vintage Rolex and Patek Philippe
Time+Tide characterizes Clapton as a serious collector and mentions vintage Rolex and Patek Philippe watches. Phillips adds auction-house documentation: it reports having sold 16 different watches once owned by Clapton over a nine-year period described in its article. That is a count of watches Phillips sold, not a measure of Clapton’s entire collection.

Phillips also documents a circa-2009 Rolex GMT-Master II gifted to Clapton by Paul Stewart. Its caseback is engraved “TO ERIC SO MANY THANKS PAUL 2009.” The account supports that specific provenance claim; it does not establish a current value for the watch or for Clapton’s collection. John Mayer — Patek Philippe chronograph and a wider collection
The original list describes Mayer’s collection as leaning toward Patek Philippe and vintage Rolex, and singles out a Patek Philippe chronograph. It does not specify an exact reference. The list also mentions a lawsuit over watches, but that historical reference does not establish the legal matter’s current status; it is not needed to identify the watch pairing. Time+Tide’s account.

What the associations establish—and what they do not
The strongest corroborated film connection here is Presley’s Ventura in Blue Hawaii, supported by Hamilton’s own history as well as Time+Tide’s list. For Jagger, Lennon, Davis, Stills and Mayer, the cited list supplies the pairing, but the details available here do not establish an exact reference for each watch or independent provenance for every image. Clapton’s collecting history has separate auction-house documentation, with the specific scope and time period described above.
These distinctions matter to collectors: a musician’s association with a model family is not the same as identifying an exact reference, authenticating a particular surviving watch, or demonstrating that a current production model matches a vintage example.
Other notable musician-watch connections
Rolex’s official Daytona history offers two useful comparisons beyond these seven entries. It says Joanne Woodward gave Paul Newman a Cosmograph Daytona engraved “DRIVE CAREFULLY, ME” before filming Winning. The page also reproduces racing driver and Rolex Testimonee Sir Jackie Stewart’s first-person account: “The Rolex Daytona I am wearing was given to me in the late sixties in Monaco for winning one of the legendary races.
