If your Garmin fēnix 8 screen feels too bright, first try its display settings: Garmin documents adjustable brightness, Always On Display, Color Shift, and wake behavior controls. If you want a different screen technology, the fēnix 8 Solar is the supported option to consider: Garmin’s comparison identifies a sunlight-visible transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) display. The available specifications do not establish that any particular third-party watch is dimmer than the fēnix 8, so a cross-brand ranking would be guesswork.
Try changing the fēnix 8 display before replacing the watch
The fēnix 8 AMOLED/MicroLED manual documents several settings that can change how the screen behaves. Start with brightness, then consider how and when the display wakes. Garmin’s manual covers these options.

- Brightness: Lower the display brightness to suit your surroundings.
- Always On Display: Garmin says this dims watch-face data and the background. The setting affects battery and display life, so weigh the convenience of a continuously visible face against those trade-offs.
- Color Shift: Choose red, green, or orange shades for low-light use, night-vision preservation, or reduced eye strain. Garmin also documents a Blue Light Filter mode.
- Wake behavior: Adjust alert and gesture wake behavior if the screen lighting up unexpectedly is part of the problem.
Garmin says the ambient light sensor adjusts brightness automatically. That describes automatic adjustment, not a universal maximum-brightness figure for every fēnix 8 configuration.
For a different display type, consider the fēnix 8 Solar
Garmin’s fēnix 8 launch material describes AMOLED and solar-charging display versions. Its official product comparison lists a sunlight-visible transflective MIP display among the fēnix options. The Solar version is therefore the clearest documented alternative if you want to stay with Garmin and choose a different display technology.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
MIP and AMOLED/MicroLED are different display approaches, but the cited Garmin material does not quantify a brightness difference between them. “Sunlight-visible” is Garmin’s legibility description; it is not a claim that the MIP screen is a specific number of times dimmer indoors or in all lighting conditions.
How to assess third-party alternatives without guessing
The available official specifications do not support naming or ranking specific third-party watches as dimmer than the fēnix 8. Before switching, compare the exact model’s manufacturer-published details rather than relying on a display label alone:

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Display technology: Check whether the watch uses MIP, AMOLED, or another type. Technology alone does not establish a measured brightness ranking.
- Brightness information: Look for a manufacturer-published brightness specification and note the measurement conditions, if given. Do not infer a figure from marketing terms.
- Outdoor legibility and always-on behavior: Check how the maker describes visibility in sunlight and whether the watch supports an always-on mode.
- Battery impact: Review the maker’s stated battery implications for the display mode you plan to use.
- Sports and navigation features: Confirm that the alternative retains the training, navigation, and other functions you rely on from the fēnix.
Without comparable, current manufacturer specifications for competing models, there is no substantiated cross-brand answer to which watch is dimmest or most like-for-like.
