If you want to stay close to the NOMOS Metro Date Power Reserve’s mix of a compact, refined mechanical watch, a date, and a visible power-reserve indicator, the strongest starting point is NOMOS’s own Metro 38 Datum, which NOMOS describes with a quick-set date and a 52-hour power reserve. Cross-brand options are thinner. The Grand Seiko Heritage 37 mm SBGW301 is surfaced by a retailer as a similar-size, similar-style comparison, and the Longines Master Collection Chrono Monopusher is worth considering only if you are open to a chronograph. None of these is a verified replacement or a ranked list. Treat them as starting points, and confirm current specifications, prices and stock on each maker’s site before you decide.
The reference you are comparing against
NOMOS lists the Metro Date Power Reserve as reference 1101. Its official product page gives the figures below. Use them as the baseline for every alternative.

- Case: stainless steel, 37.0 mm diameter, 7.7 mm height, 43.6 mm lug-to-lug
- Crystal and back: domed sapphire crystal; sapphire display back
- Movement: DUW 4401, manual winding, 2.8 mm high, 32.1 mm in diameter, 23 jewels

- Strap: black Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan, quick-change spring bars, 18 mm lug width
NOMOS describes the large date and the power-reserve indicator as patented. The family page credits the Metro design to Mark Braun and says it was influenced by measuring instruments, pointing to the crown’s diamond knurling and the wire lugs. Those are the maker’s own descriptions, not independent evaluations.
What to compare on each alternative
Every candidate should be checked against the same set of axes:
#1 Best Overall
- Nomos Metro Neomatik Automatic White Dial Men's Watch 1165
- Case diameter, thickness and lug-to-lug length
- Hand-wound or automatic movement
- Power-reserve duration, and whether a reserve indicator is shown
- Date display and how the date is set
- Water resistance
- Dial and case design
- Price and authorized availability in your region
The alternatives
NOMOS Metro 38 Datum: the same-maker option
This is the closest option within NOMOS. A NOMOS press release describes the Metro 38 Datum with a quick-set date and a 52-hour power reserve. The information available for this guide does not establish its full current specification, price or market availability, so case dimensions, movement, water resistance and whether a reserve indicator is fitted should be read from NOMOS’s current product page. The 52-hour figure belongs to the Metro 38 Datum. Do not set it against the 42-hour figure for the DUW 4401 until you have confirmed which movement each watch uses.
Grand Seiko Heritage 37 mm SBGW301: the cross-brand size and style comparison
A watch retailer’s comparison page lists the Grand Seiko Heritage 37 mm SBGW301 among watches from other brands that it considers similar to the Metro in price, style and size. That retailer listing is the only basis for the pairing. It shows a size and design comparison, not matching function. The date display, the presence of a power-reserve indicator, the full dimensions beyond the nominal 37 mm and the price were not established for this guide, so confirm them on Grand Seiko’s own model page before comparing.
Rank #2
- Nomos Metro Ruthenium-plated Dial Hand Wind Men's Watch 1111
Longines Master Collection Chrono Monopusher: a different direction
The same retailer page also lists the Longines Master Collection Chrono Monopusher as a similar-price, similar-style option. It is a chronograph, so it addresses a different complication rather than the Metro’s date-and-reserve combination. It is a fit only if the chronograph function matters more to you than a power-reserve display. Its date display, reserve, dimensions and price were not established for this guide.

How to shortlist safely
- Confirm the exact reference. The Metro family includes several models and calibers, so check that you are comparing against reference 1101 and the DUW 4401, not another Metro.
- Open each candidate’s official product page and record the case diameter, height, lug-to-lug length, movement, reserve duration, and water resistance in the same format as the Metro figures above.
- Decide whether a visible power-reserve indicator is essential. Then confirm on the maker’s page that the indicator is standard on that model and is not an option or a separate version.
- Check the date-setting method on each page. The Metro figures used here do not state how the date is set, so do not assume the Metro 38 Datum’s quick-set date matches the Metro 1101.
- Check price and authorized availability in your region on the brand’s site or a listed authorized dealer. Retailer comparison pages can be out of date.
Choosing between the options
- If you want to stay with NOMOS and the reserve display is the priority, start with the Metro 38 Datum and verify its specifications on NOMOS’s product page.
- If you want a different brand with a similar size and dress-watch style, use the Grand Seiko SBGW301 as the comparison point, and verify its date and reserve features before buying.
- If a chronograph is acceptable in place of a date-and-reserve display, consider the Longines Chrono Monopusher.
Once you have confirmed a region and budget, compare official specifications for the two or three models that remain, then check authorized stock.
