The best rubber strap for a Rolex Submariner depends on the exact reference and whether you want to keep the original clasp. Reference-specific integrated straps, curved-end FKM straps, and straight-end straps are different options; matching lug width alone does not guarantee fit. Lug width is only one part of fit. Curvature, end geometry, spring bars, case shape, and clasp arrangement can also matter. Curved-end FKM straps
Curved-end straps are designed to follow the case near the lugs. Everest describes a curved-end FKM or vulcanized-rubber strap and lists reference compatibility, including the Submariner 1680 in the researched US page result. Its “universal” width language should not be taken to mean universal compatibility with Submariner cases. Check the Everest Submariner collection for the specific reference and configuration.
Monstraps lists selected Submariner references across several generations and describes a 20 mm lug width tapering to 18 mm at the buckle. Its listed coverage is not every reference. Treat those measurements and fit details as vendor specifications, not independent test results.
Straight-end FKM straps

MGB advertises a 20 mm straight-end option with compatibility claims for certain Rolex clasps, but the listing describes it as open-ended and without a buckle. Before ordering, establish whether the strap suits your watch, whether your clasp can be fitted, and whether you need additional hardware.

Can you keep the Rolex Glidelock clasp?
Sometimes, but only when the particular aftermarket strap is documented as compatible with your reference and clasp. Rubber B describes some products as integrating with original Rolex clasp or Glidelock architecture. Do not assume the same capability for every strap from that maker or for other brands.
Rolex’s September 2021 brochure describes Glidelock as a feature of the Oyster bracelet, with 10 increments of approximately 2 mm and about 20 mm of bracelet-length adjustment. That specification describes the Rolex bracelet extension system; it does not mean an aftermarket rubber strap will preserve Glidelock.
How to choose and check fit
- Identify the exact reference. Use the complete reference, not just “Submariner,” “Date,” or a stated case diameter.
- Check the product’s compatibility list. Look for your reference and confirm that the listing applies to the exact strap version and clasp setup.
- Compare the end design. Determine whether the strap is integrated, curved-end, or straight-end and whether that design suits your case.
- Confirm the dimensions and hardware. Check lug width, taper, spring bars, and whether a buckle is included. An open-ended strap may require separate hardware.
- Confirm clasp compatibility separately. If you want to reuse an original Rolex clasp or Glidelock, look for an explicit statement for your watch and clasp.
- Ask for help if fit is uncertain. Consult the manufacturer or a qualified watchmaker rather than relying on a generic width claim.
What can product descriptions tell you?
Manufacturers may describe a strap as FKM or vulcanized rubber and explain its construction. Those descriptions are not independent evidence of comfort, durability, water resistance, or long-term performance. Likewise, a vendor’s reference list is evidence of that vendor’s stated fitment, not a universal Submariner compatibility chart. Check the current product listing and its included hardware before buying.

Can an aftermarket rubber strap keep my Rolex Glidelock?
Some products are described as compatible with original-clasp or Glidelock arrangements, but this is product- and reference-specific. Rolex’s Glidelock specification for its Oyster bracelet does not establish aftermarket strap compatibility.
What should I check if a strap is sold without a buckle?
