Best Smart Swimming Goggles in 2026: FORM Models Compared

FORM Smart Swim 2 is the strongest all-around display goggle in 2026, while the LT saves money and the PRO adds tougher lenses. See how they compare with a smartwatch.

FORM Smart Swim 2 is the best all-around smart swimming goggle for swimmers who want live metrics in their field of view. The current lineup also includes the $149 Smart Swim 2 LT, which drops integrated heart-rate sensing, and the $259 Smart Swim 2 PRO, which adds tougher lenses and renewable anti-fog treatment. U.S. prices were listed by FORM on August 18, 2026.

Smart goggles are worth considering when seeing pace, intervals or workout instructions mid-swim would change how you train. If you mainly want a record afterward—or already own a smartwatch—the broader fitness features of a watch and ordinary goggles may be a better fit. FINIS Smart Goggle is not a current alternative: FINIS sunset it at the end of 2025.

Current smart swimming goggles at a glance

The active display-goggle choice covered here is FORM’s Smart Swim 2 family. Prices below are the U.S. prices listed on August 18, 2026; confirm current price and terms before ordering.

Model Price checked Integrated heart rate Lens and anti-fog Best for
FORM Smart Swim 2 LT $149 USD No; FORM says a compatible Polar sensor is needed for heart-rate tracking Standard lens; factory-applied anti-fog Lower-cost access to the display and workout platform
FORM Smart Swim 2 $199 USD Yes Standard lens; factory-applied anti-fog Best balance of live metrics and built-in biometrics
FORM Smart Swim 2 PRO $259 USD Yes Corning Gorilla Glass 3; renewable anti-fog system with included spray Frequent outdoor use and buyers prioritizing lens durability

All three models have an in-goggle display and are rated by FORM for approximately 14 hours of battery life. Features and sensor configuration vary by model; see FORM’s model comparison.

Best overall: FORM Smart Swim 2

Smart Swim 2 is the most complete choice for swimmers who want a display plus integrated heart-rate sensing. FORM lists time, distance, pace, stroke rate, stroke count and calories among the available real-time metrics. The goggles also track strokes, lengths, sets and rest periods, with post-swim analysis in the FORM app. Five interchangeable nose bridges and replaceable eye seals help with fit, and the display can be positioned for either eye.

For pool training, the central benefit is practical: glance at workout information without stopping at the wall or lifting a wrist. The goggles also offer a SwimStraight digital compass and open-water mode. FORM lists syncing or sharing with Strava, TrainingPeaks, TriDot, Apple Health and Final Surge. These features make Smart Swim 2 a strong editorial pick for solo workouts, interval sets and swimmers who want feedback during—not just after—a session. Specifications and integrations are listed on FORM’s product page.

Heart rate is useful, not a medical measurement

The optical sensor reads pulse near the temple. As with other optical sensors, fit, movement, contact and individual anatomy can affect readings. An independent Wareable review found the heart-rate feature useful but potentially sensitive. Treat it as a training aid, and compare it with another sensor over several workouts if heart-rate zones matter to your sessions; it is not a substitute for medical monitoring.

What to know before buying

  • Comfort, seal, display position and peripheral vision are personal. The added electronics make the goggles feel different from conventional swim goggles; the independent review noted that difference despite finding the display clear.
  • FORM says the display is visible for prescriptions up to -3. That stated range does not establish compatibility with every prescription, including astigmatism correction. Check whether your vision needs are met before relying on the display.
  • FORM lists approximately 14 hours of battery life. Actual runtime can vary with use and conditions; charge before a long session and keep ordinary backup goggles available.
  • FORM specifies mirrored lenses and UV protection blocking 98% of harmful UV rays. Treat that as the manufacturer’s specification, not a guarantee of complete sun protection.

Best value: FORM Smart Swim 2 LT

FORM announced the LT on May 5, 2026, as the entry model in the Smart Swim 2 family. At $149 USD on the date checked, it retains the display, real-time swim metrics, guided workouts and pool and open-water use. It can also connect with compatible Apple or Garmin watches for additional open-water data. It is the sensible pick if your priority is seeing pace, distance, stroke and workout information, rather than having every sensor built into the goggles. See the LT announcement and product listing.

FORM Smart Swim 2 LT - Goggles
  • Stay focused in the pool with FORM Smart Swim 2 LT Goggles and the FORM app (iOS and Android). Designed for swimmers of all levels, with real-time feedback that keeps every swim clear, simple, and easy to follow.
  • Core Features: No subscription required. See time, distance, and pace in your line of sight with a clear in-goggle display. Automatically track your lengths and review every swim in the FORM app. Stay on course in open water with SwimStraight, and pair with Garmin or Apple Watch for optional distance and pace. Sync with Strava, Apple Health, and more.
  • Streamlined Design & Comfort: Built for simplicity with a clear display, long-lasting anti-fog clarity, and a comfortable, secure fit. Up to 14 hours of battery life, 5 interchangeable nose bridges, and backed by a 2-year warranty.
  • Premium Features (1-Month Free Trial Included. Payment details required to start; then from $9.99/mo, cancel anytime): Premium includes: (1) 1,500+ workouts and 45 training plans with motivating lap-by-lap instructions in your goggles. (2) HeadCoach - in-goggle visual coaching and resources to enhance your technique. (3) Script - import workouts from TrainingPeaks and TriDot, or photograph a workout to add it to the FORM Workout Builder.
  • Race approved by World Triathlon, USA Triathlon, British Triathlon, PTO, and SuperTri.

The trade-off is straightforward: no integrated heart-rate sensor, a standard lens rather than Gorilla Glass, and factory-applied rather than renewable anti-fog treatment. FORM says heart-rate tracking with the LT requires a compatible Polar sensor. Choose another model if built-in heart rate is a priority or you want the PRO lens construction.

Best for durability: FORM Smart Swim 2 PRO

The PRO costs $259 USD and adds Corning Gorilla Glass 3 mirrored lenses and a renewable anti-fog system; FORM includes anti-fog spray. It otherwise belongs to the same broad display and tracking platform and includes integrated heart-rate sensing. FORM lists its weight at approximately 73 grams, compared with approximately 69 grams for Smart Swim 2. The comparison is based on FORM’s model specifications.

The extra cost is most defensible for frequent outdoor swimmers or people whose lenses take a regular beating in gear bags. Glass construction does not eliminate routine care, guarantee a perfect fit, or make the electronics immune to misuse. Occasional swimmers who replace goggles often may get more value from the standard model.

FINIS Smart Goggle: discontinued, not a current pick

FINIS says it sunset the Smart Goggle at the end of 2025. New devices had to be registered by January 31, 2026; existing registered users retain access to core app features, while replacement goggles are available only while supplies last. Its former live splits, lap and stroke display may still interest existing owners, but uncertain replacement availability and long-term support make it a poor new purchase in 2026. See FINIS’s product update.

Smart goggles or a smartwatch?

The deciding question is whether you need to see data while swimming. Smart goggles put it in your field of view; a watch generally offers a wider activity-tracking ecosystem and can be the better buy if you already own one.

Consideration Smart goggles Smartwatch
Live data visibility Displayed in the swimmer’s field of view Usually requires lifting or rotating the wrist
Pool tracking Designed to show swim metrics and workout information while swimming Commonly records pool swims; live viewing is less direct
Open-water GPS FORM’s GPS-based distance and pace require a compatible paired Apple or Garmin watch May provide GPS directly, depending on the watch
Broader fitness use Focused on swimming and its connected training ecosystem Often covers many sports and general fitness features
Equipment and comfort Adds electronics and weight to the goggles Leaves the goggles conventional
Cost considerations Goggle purchase, possible coaching subscription, and potentially a sensor or watch Watch purchase; you may already own one

Choose conventional goggles plus a smartwatch if you mostly want post-workout records, broader fitness tracking, or no electronics on your face. Choose smart goggles when immediate visual pacing or instructions are valuable enough to justify the extra hardware. A watch does not provide the same at-a-glance display in the swimmer’s field of view.

What smart swimming goggles do

Smart goggles combine swim optics with electronics such as a small head-up display, motion sensors, onboard recording, connectivity, heart-rate sensing or guided workouts. The label covers several capabilities, not one standard feature set:

  • Display: Shows items such as time, pace, lengths or intervals during a swim.
  • Tracking: Records distance, stroke information and workout structure.
  • Biometrics: Adds heart-rate data on supported models or with a compatible external sensor.
  • Coaching: Provides guided workouts, plans or technique-related prompts through the device and app ecosystem.
  • Connectivity: Syncs workout data with an app, watch or training platform.

Not every model offers every capability, and a visible display does not itself mean the goggles contain GPS.

Holoswim Smart Swim Goggles 3 Pro, AR Swim Goggles with Display, GPS & Compass Swim Tracker, Data Tracking & Training Plans for Pool & Open Water, 10-Axis Sensor, 64x128 HD Display, TÜV Anti-Fog
  • BREAKTHROUGH LOW-DRAG GOGGLE DESIGN: HoloSwim 3 Pro upgrades smart swim goggles with a 73g hydrodynamic balanced profile that rebalances weight across the frame. This streamlined shape breaks through the bulky feel of traditional smart goggles, improving seal stability, reducing slipping and water entry, and helping the goggles stay secure through push-offs, flip turns, sighting, and open-water movement.
  • SHARPER AR DISPLAY, CLEARER SWIM VIEW: The 128x64 in-goggle AR display delivers up to twice the display resolution of many current smart swimming goggles, helping real-time feedback read cleaner in motion. Nano anti-fog coating helps maintain visual clarity through hard sets, so the display stays integrated with the swim.
  • GPS & COMPASS OPEN-WATER SWIM TRACKER: Upgrades open-water swimming with GPS and compass built directly into the goggles. Train beyond lane lines with Holoswim 3PRO. Capture a more complete open-water swim without connecting an external GPS watch.
  • 10-AXIS SENSOR + 33 SWIM DATA POINTS: A 10-axis sensor system is tuned for swim movement, helping capture more accurate training data in the water. Each session is converted into 33 swim data points, including stroke rate, stroke count, DPS, split consistency, and SWOLF-style efficiency review, then uploaded automatically to the HoloSport app.
  • AI COACHING AND TRAINING PLANS, NO SUBSCRIPTION: The HoloSport app turns every swim into post-swim analysis. Review performance trends, manage workouts, receive AI coach feedback, build structured sessions with workout builder and training plan tools, and sync activities into a connected training workflow with platforms such as Apple and Strava.

Do you need a phone or smartwatch?

Think of the system as three possible parts:

  • Goggles: Display and record the swim.
  • Phone and app: Configure the device, sync and review workouts, and manage software updates.
  • Smartwatch: Optional for FORM pool use, but required for GPS-based open-water distance and pace according to FORM’s support guidance.

FORM says its goggles can operate independently in the pool without a smartwatch. For open-water use, the goggles have onboard functions, but GPS-based distance and pace require a compatible paired Apple or Garmin watch. Check the current compatibility list for your watch and phone before buying; see FORM’s smartwatch guidance.

Subscriptions: separate core tracking from coaching

Core live metrics and swim tracking do not require a subscription, according to FORM’s current product information. Advanced coaching and workout features may require FORM Premium. The May 2026 U.S. LT announcement described one free month followed by $9.99 per month billed annually; terms can change. FORM’s Canadian Premium page displays different regional pricing, including C$139 per year or C$19 per month. Do not treat either regional price as universal.

Premium features may include HeadCoach, guided workouts, adaptive training plans, workout imports, Workout Builder and additional analysis. Check the U.S. checkout page for the current price, billing frequency, trial terms and what remains available if you cancel. FORM’s regional features and price examples are on its Premium page.

How to choose the right model

Start with where you swim

Pool swimmers should value length counting, split and interval visibility, stroke detection, indoor readability and fit. Open-water swimmers should check watch compatibility for GPS, consider compass guidance and lens durability, and account for longer sessions. A compass and display do not replace route planning, local hazard awareness, a visible swim buoy, a training partner or emergency arrangements.

Decide whether integrated heart rate matters

Pick Smart Swim 2 or PRO if you want the sensor built in. The LT is less expensive but requires a compatible Polar sensor for heart-rate tracking. If you only occasionally look at heart rate, consider whether that feature justifies the cost and setup.

Be honest about whether you will use the display

A display is most useful if you lose count, miss intervals, cannot see the pace clock, train alone or want to pace by time per 100 meters or yards. If you do not need feedback mid-swim, conventional goggles and an existing watch may be the more rational option.

Check fit and vision before committing

Try different nose bridges and strap tension if possible. Pay attention to seal pressure, sensor contact at the temple, display position, weight distribution, peripheral vision and whether a cap or hair interferes. FORM lists five interchangeable nose bridges and replaceable eye seals for the Smart Swim 2 family. Its stated display prescription range is up to -3; if your needs fall outside that or include correction the stated range does not address, conventional prescription goggles may be more suitable.

Account for the whole cost

The hardware price is only one part of ownership. Include any Premium plan, an external Polar sensor if choosing LT with heart-rate tracking, a compatible watch for open-water GPS, replacement parts, shipping and tax, and a pair of conventional backup goggles. Ask whether basic display functions work without a subscription, how data can be exported, whether replacement parts are available, and what the warranty covers.

Know the race rules for your event

FORM says its goggles are approved by several organizations, including World Triathlon, USA Triathlon, British Triathlon, PTO and supertri. That does not establish legality in every race or format. Meet and event policies can differ, including how they treat display, communication and coaching functions. Check the organizer’s current technical rules for your specific event. World Aquatics’ approved-wearables list dated June 25, 2026 should not be read as blanket approval of every goggle model or event.

Setup and first-swim checklist

  1. Install FORM’s official app and create or sign in to an account.
  2. Charge the goggles and install any available firmware update before the first workout.
  3. Choose a nose bridge, adjust the strap and check the seal and temple sensor contact.
  4. Set the display position and select the metrics you want to see.
  5. Enter the correct pool length for pool sessions.
  6. Pair a compatible Polar sensor for LT heart-rate tracking, or a compatible Apple or Garmin watch for open-water GPS features.
  7. Test a short swim before relying on the goggles for a race. Verify length counts, intervals and any heart-rate readings over multiple sessions.
  8. Rinse and dry the goggles according to the manufacturer’s care guidance, and keep conventional backup goggles for sessions when the battery, fit or electronics are a concern.

Limitations worth checking during training

  • Length counts: Unusual pool lengths, weak push-offs, mid-length stops, drills, irregular turns and calibration errors can affect tracking. Verify counts before using the data to make training decisions.
  • Open-water data: GPS-based distance depends on the paired watch and conditions; compass guidance is not navigation or a safety system.
  • Heart rate: Loose fit or movement can disrupt temple-based optical readings. Compare readings over several workouts rather than judging reliability from one session.
  • Long-term support: FINIS’s product sunset shows that a working device can outlast its app support, replacement parts or service certainty. Consider offline use, data export and parts availability before buying connected hardware.
