The $799 starting price for Ray-Ban Display includes both the glasses and the Meta Neural Band wristband. Its main addition is a small, full-color in-lens display for brief glances at messages, captions, navigation, and visual AI responses—not a full-room augmented-reality system.
Meta’s new smart-glasses lineup at a glance
The announcement expands Meta’s range from camera-and-audio glasses to a display-equipped model, while also adding a second-generation everyday Ray-Ban and a sports-focused Oakley. Meta describes these as camera AI glasses, display AI glasses, and sports AI glasses; Ray-Ban Display is not the same category as Meta’s full augmented-reality research prototype, Orion.
| Model | Launch price | Display | Best suited to | Camera and battery claims |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meta Ray-Ban Display | Starting at $799, including glasses and Neural Band | Full-color in-lens display | Messages, captions, translation, navigation, and visual AI responses | Up to six hours of mixed use for the glasses; up to 30 hours total with the charging case. Display-model video specifications were not stated in the launch announcement. |
| Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 | Starting at $379 | No | Everyday hands-free camera, calls, audio, and AI | Up to 3K Ultra HD video; Meta says battery life is up to twice that of the prior generation. |
| Oakley Meta Vanguard | $499 at launch | No | Sports and outdoor capture | Centered 12-megapixel camera with a 122-degree wide-angle lens and up to 3K video; specific battery life was not stated in the launch announcement. |
Prices are launch figures announced by Meta, not a guarantee of current price or availability. Meta’s Ray-Ban Display announcement, Gen 2 announcement, and Vanguard announcement set out the launch specifications.
What Ray-Ban Display adds
Ray-Ban Display combines cameras, microphones, open-ear speakers, computing, and Meta AI with a full-color display integrated into one lens. Meta says the display sits off to the side rather than continuously covering the wearer’s ordinary view. It is intended for short, contextual interactions, not a large screen or persistent holographic overlays.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Meta announced display uses including message previews and replies, photo previews, live captions, selected-language translation, navigation, music controls and playback information, and AI answers or visual how-to instructions. These functions can reduce how often someone needs to retrieve a phone, but they do not make the glasses a phone replacement. The availability of AI and software features may differ by country, language, account, phone platform, and software version.
Meta later announced that Neural Handwriting was rolling out to Ray-Ban Display and coming to iMessage. That is a later software development, not a feature to assume was present at launch. Meta also described translation-language expansion in its September 2025 Gen 2 announcement; language support and rollout timing can vary. Meta’s 2026 prescription and Neural Handwriting announcement gives the later update.
How the Meta Neural Band works
The Neural Band is an electromyography (EMG) wristband. It senses electrical signals associated with muscle activity and interprets deliberate finger and hand movements as commands. It is not reading thoughts: the wearer makes a gesture, and the band detects the muscle signals produced by that movement.

Meta’s launch examples included silent scrolling, selecting or clicking, swiping through content, and changing volume by rotating the wrist while pinching. Meta also described handwriting-style message input as a future capability at launch. The band is the interface that makes it possible to interact with the display without relying only on voice or a touchpad on the frame.
- Meta states up to 18 hours of band battery life.
- The band is rated IPX7 for water resistance and was announced in three sizes.
- Meta says its surface-EMG work involved nearly 200,000 research participants and informed its design for variation in users’ muscles. That is a manufacturer claim, not independent proof that gesture control will work equally well for every wearer.
Fit, placement, movement, and calibration can affect gesture recognition. The band also adds another item to wear and charge, a meaningful consideration for anyone seeking a simpler pair of glasses.
Price, battery, colors, and U.S. launch
Meta announced Ray-Ban Display at a starting price of $799, including the glasses and one Neural Band. The figure is not the price of the glasses alone. Meta announced Black and Sand color options with Transitions lenses; the announcement does not establish every prescription configuration or lens option. Taxes, regional pricing, later options, and current retail prices may differ.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Meta announced up to six hours of mixed-use battery life for the glasses and up to 30 hours total when using the portable collapsible charging case. These are manufacturer “up to” figures, not guaranteed runtimes: display use, recording, calls, music, AI queries, and connectivity can reduce battery life. The case matters for longer days, and the Neural Band has its own separate up-to-18-hour claim.
Meta announced the product on September 17, 2025, and U.S. availability began September 30, 2025, initially through Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, and Ray-Ban Stores. Meta said selected Verizon stores would follow. It planned expansion to Canada, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom in early 2026; that plan should not be treated as proof of present availability in every market. Meta’s May 2026 Japan announcement concerns Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 and Oakley Meta models and does not establish Ray-Ban Display availability in Japan. Meta’s Japan announcement identifies the models covered there.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2: the lower-cost camera-and-audio option
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 starts at $379 in Meta’s launch announcement. It retains the camera, microphones, speakers, and Meta AI approach without an in-lens display or Neural Band. Meta’s stated additions include video capture up to 3K Ultra HD and up to twice the battery life of the previous generation. Because Meta did not express that battery comparison as a specific runtime in the launch announcement, it should not be converted into a fixed number of hours.

For someone who mainly wants hands-free photos and video, calls, open-ear audio, and spoken AI responses, Gen 2 avoids the display model’s extra interface and wristband. It cannot show captions, visual answers, or message previews in the lens. Meta’s 2026 buyer guide likewise positions its camera glasses separately from display glasses. Meta’s buyer guide describes those product categories.

Vanguard is the sports model, not a cheaper display alternative. Meta announced a $499 launch price and an October 21, 2025 release date. Its wraparound frame uses Oakley’s Three-Point Fit system and includes three replaceable nose pads; Meta says the design is compatible with helmets and hats.
- IP67 dust and water resistance.
- PRIZM lens technology.
- Garmin and Strava integrations.
- A centered 12-megapixel camera with a 122-degree wide-angle lens, recording up to 3K video, with slow motion, hyperlapse, and adjustable video stabilization.
- Open-ear speakers Meta says are six decibels louder than those in Oakley Meta HSTN.
Those features make Vanguard the more purpose-built option for running, cycling, skiing, hiking, and other demanding outdoor activities. It has no in-lens display, and its sporty wraparound design is a different trade-off from conventional-looking everyday eyewear.

What to check before buying
Prescription and fit
Meta’s launch announcement names Transitions lenses in Black and Sand, but does not establish every prescription, lens type, replacement-lens, or aftermarket configuration for Ray-Ban Display. Do not assume compatibility is identical to standard Ray-Ban Meta glasses. If you need prescription lenses, confirm supported prescriptions, lens options, fitting, and retailer availability with an optician or participating retailer before purchase. Meta’s 2026 prescription announcement describes broader prescription-related developments, but does not by itself confirm every Display configuration.
Privacy and setting
These products include cameras and microphones. Before recording, consider local rules and the expectations of people around you; workplaces, schools, medical settings, and restricted locations may have their own policies. The launch material cited here does not establish all privacy settings, data-retention terms, regional restrictions, or enterprise controls, so check the current product and account information for those specifics. Visual AI can also misinterpret what a camera sees, so its answers should not be treated as infallible.
Quick Recap
What the products are—and are not
- Ray-Ban Display is a contextual in-lens interface, not a full-room AR system or a conventional headset with unrestricted app windows.
- The Neural Band detects muscle signals from intentional movements; it is not mind control.
- All three models remain dependent on software and connected-device support for some functions; capabilities can vary by market and version.
- Meta’s accessibility rationale and claims about broad EMG fit are not the same as independent clinical validation or a guarantee of individual reliability.
Which Meta glasses make sense for you?
- Choose Ray-Ban Display if you want visual information—such as captions, message previews, translations, navigation, or visual AI guidance—and accept the $799 launch package, a wristband, and more frequent charging than the audio-camera models’ marketing might suggest.
- Choose Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 if your priority is a lower-cost everyday camera, calls, audio, and AI without a visual screen or additional band.
- Choose Oakley Meta Vanguard if sports fit, outdoor durability, action video, and Garmin or Strava integrations matter more than everyday styling or a display.
