The brand makes highly complicated, personalized watches in very small numbers; its official biography says Becsei produces fewer than eight movements a year. That is the maker’s own description, not an independently audited production figure. Bexei’s work is compelling for its bespoke approach and complex movement designs, but “some of the finest in the world” is a matter of judgment, not a verified ranking.
Who makes Bexei watches?
Bexei is the brand and atelier of Aaron Becsei, also known as Áron Becsei or Becsei Áron. The maker’s official biography traces his watchmaking family across three generations and says he trained in watchmaking and CAD/CAM engineering. It dates his early movement designs to 2000, his clock exhibition at Baselworld to 2005, the presentation of the Primus wristwatch to 2008, and his membership in the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) to 2009.
Bexei describes its watches as unique pieces developed with customers. The biography says the atelier makes fewer than eight movements annually; that figure is Bexei’s statement and has not been independently audited.
What does “made in Hungary” mean for Bexei?
Bexei says its watch and movement designs and component specifications are conceived in-house, with design, crafting, decoration, and assembly carried out by Becsei. Its manufacturing page describes a process spanning paper and computer-aided design through hands-on component work and finishing.

The biography adds an important qualification: springs, jewels, and crystals arrive in raw or non-final form, and a Hungarian master engraver performs engraving. The brand’s account therefore supports a substantial, hands-on Hungarian atelier process, but not the claim that one person makes every component from raw material.
How do the Primus and Vox Vinum compare?
Bexei’s published model pages show two distinct approaches to complication: the Primus uses a triple-axis tourbillon, while the Vox Vinum adds chiming functions. Their measurements below are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements or performance tests.

Primus: a multi-axis tourbillon
A tourbillon places the escapement and balance in a rotating cage; the Primus takes the idea further with three axes of rotation. Bexei’s Primus page lists jewel bearings and the dimensions shown above. The arrangement signals mechanical ambition, but complexity alone does not establish superior accuracy, reliability, or value.
A Bexei-hosted Diplomacy & Trade article quotes Aaron Becsei describing the Primus bearing solution: “This is a unique solution at this size and level of complication.” This is his historical description of the design, not an independent technical assessment.

Vox Vinum: a chiming watch
A grande sonnerie can strike the hours and quarter-hours as time passes; a petite sonnerie strikes a more limited sequence, typically the hours and quarters without repeating the hour at each quarter. Bexei’s Vox Vinum page lists both grande and petite sonnerie. Its listed 46.3 mm diameter and 54.5 mm case length with lugs make it notably larger on paper than the Primus’s 38 mm case width, though these differently described dimensions are not a direct measure of wrist fit.
How can you buy a Bexei watch?
Bexei’s official site says the atelier does not sell online or through resellers and warns that some watches carrying the Bexei name cannot be verified as made in Hungary. Contact the atelier through its official site rather than relying on an unaffiliated listing.

- For a watch already offered for sale, ask Bexei to confirm whether it can verify that specific watch.
The official pages cited here do not establish current prices, availability, order lead times, warranty terms, or service arrangements. If considering a replacement strap, note that the cited Primus and Vox Vinum pages list a 22 mm band width; confirm the attachment and fit for the individual watch with the atelier rather than assuming every Bexei uses that width or that a generic strap will fit.
