Blancpain’s 2025 Villeret Traditional Chinese Calendar is a limited-edition watch built around a rare horological challenge: displaying the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar alongside the Gregorian date and moon phase. Its appeal lies as much in that intricate calendar as in its green enamel dial and platinum case.
What is the 2025 Year of the Snake edition?
Blancpain announced the Villeret Calendrier Chinois Traditionnel on 17 January 2025, ahead of the Chinese New Year that began on 29 January. The edition marks the Year of the Wood Snake and is limited to 50 pieces. Its exact reference is 0888 3432C 55B.
The launch configuration is the first in this model line, according to Blancpain, to pair a platinum case with a green Grand Feu enamel dial. Blancpain’s official product page lists the case at 45.20 mm in diameter and 15.10 mm thick, with 3 bar water resistance. It describes the dial as Métiers d’Art.
Snake and Wood details
The zodiac animal appears in an aperture on the dial. Blancpain also places the snake on the frosted white-gold rotor, alongside a ruby and Chinese characters representing “serpent” and “wood.” These details connect the edition to the Wood Snake year rather than functioning as additional timekeeping displays.

What does the calendar display?
The traditional Chinese calendar is lunisolar: it follows lunar months of varying lengths and inserts leap months at irregular intervals to keep the calendar aligned with the solar year. That makes it substantially different from a standard Gregorian date mechanism. Blancpain’s historical technical explanation notes that the two calendar systems cannot be treated as interchangeable date displays.
The watch brings both systems together. Its indications include Chinese days and months, a leap-month display, double Chinese hours, the zodiac sign, the five elements and yin-yang, as well as the Gregorian date and moon phase. The linked zodiac and elements/yin-yang indications represent a 60-year cycle. They show calendar information; they do not predict or determine cultural events.

A serpentine hand indicates the Gregorian date, while the moon phase sits at six o’clock. The other displays provide the traditional Chinese calendar information, including the cycle’s leap-month and double-hour indications.
How does the movement work?
The automatic calibre 3638 has 464 components, three barrels and a 168-hour, or seven-day, power reserve. Blancpain says development took five years. The manufacturer describes the mechanism as more complex than a perpetual calendar and compares its level of complexity with that of a minute repeater; those are Blancpain’s characterizations, not an independent ranking of complications.

Calendar adjustment
Correctors under the lugs let the wearer adjust the calendar indications with a fingertip, without a separate tool, according to Blancpain. The brand also says the mechanism is protected if someone tries to make an adjustment while the calendar is automatically changing.
How much does it cost, and where can it be found?
Price depends on market and date, so the reported figures are not directly interchangeable. Blancpain’s US product page lists $107,200 for this reference and notes that the price can vary with the choice of pin buckle or folding clasp; the page was accessed on 8 October 2026. Monochrome Watches reported a launch retail price of CHF 81,000 on 12 September 2024.

Blancpain says it introduced the Villeret Calendrier Chinois Traditionnel in 2012, combining a complex Chinese calendar with the Gregorian date and moon phases. The brand called that combination a “world first” in its 17 January 2025 announcement; that distinction is Blancpain’s claim. The 2025 edition carries the idea forward in a highly specific format: a multi-cycle calendar mechanism, traditional Chinese and Western datekeeping on one dial, and design cues tied to the Wood Snake year.
