What the Breguet Tradition 7047 display is showing
The 7047 places much of its movement architecture on the dial side. The barrel, chain and fusee, tourbillon cage and other components are arranged as an exposed mechanical composition rather than hidden behind a conventional dial. Breguet describes the tourbillon and fusee-chain as visible atop the plate.
The display is functional, not merely decorative: the barrel stores energy in its mainspring, the fusee-chain transmission is intended to moderate changes in delivered torque as that spring unwinds, and the tourbillon carries the regulating components in a rotating cage. A power-reserve indicator sits at 10 o’clock. Breguet says a reducer differential allows the indication to be displayed on the barrel drum.
What does a fusee-chain do in a watch?
A mainspring does not deliver identical force throughout its run. As it unwinds, its torque changes. In a fusee-chain mechanism, a chain links the barrel to a cone-shaped fusee. The changing leverage of that cone is intended to counterbalance the changing force from the spring and provide more even torque to the movement.

Breguet says the system is designed to optimise rate regularity by ensuring constant torque at different winding levels. That describes the mechanism’s aim, not a guarantee of a particular rate or a measured accuracy advantage. Fratello’s July 2022 explanation compares the changing leverage to changing gears on a bicycle, a useful analogy for how the transmission varies its mechanical advantage.
How does the Breguet 7047 tourbillon work?
The tourbillon places the escapement and balance—the parts that regulate the watch—in a cage that rotates. Breguet describes its purpose as compensating for gravity’s effects on the regulating organ. It is also a historically significant complication, and on the 7047 its rotating cage is part of the movement’s visible architecture.

That historical purpose should not be confused with proof that this watch keeps better time than a watch without a tourbillon. The cited coverage does not provide independent timing tests or a controlled comparison of the 7047 against a non-tourbillon watch.

Breguet’s current product page, accessed in 2026, lists these shared movement figures for the Tradition Tourbillon 7047 family. They are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

Why older articles give a different reserve
Hodinkee’s December 2012 coverage of a pink-gold 7047BR and Fratello’s July 2022 coverage of a platinum version each report a 50-hour reserve. Breguet’s current listing gives 55 hours. The sources do not establish why the figures differ, so the current manufacturer listing is the appropriate reference for present-day specifications; the older figures belong to those dated articles and versions.
What the silicon balance spring adds
Breguet confirms that movement 569 uses a silicon balance spring. Fratello’s 2022 article describes silicon as non-magnetic, anti-friction and corrosion-resistant. Those are material characteristics reported in that article, not results of a test of this particular 7047.

There is no single case finish that describes every 7047. Breguet’s product page lists yellow-gold reference 7047BA/11/9ZU; rose-gold references 7047BR/R9/9ZU and 7047BR/G9/9ZU; platinum references 7047PT/11/9ZU and 7047PT/1Y/9ZU; and the limited-edition novelty 7047PT/YY/5ZU SL. Treat material and dial details as reference-specific.
For the yellow-gold 7047BA/11/9ZU, Breguet lists a 41 mm case, 16 mm thickness, 22 mm lug width and 3 BAR water resistance. Its listed details include a sapphire caseback, hand-guilloché silvery dial, steel Breguet hollow-apple hands, alligator strap and yellow-gold two-blade deployant clasp.

Published coverage illustrates why the exact version matters: Hodinkee described a 41 mm pink-gold 7047BR with a black dial in 2012, while Fratello’s 2022 article covered a platinum version with blue treatment on the dial side and a blue chain. These are descriptions of the versions those articles discussed, not universal features of the model family.

Breguet’s current product page does not publish a numeric recommended retail price and directs buyers to a point of sale. Check with Breguet or an authorized seller for the price in your currency, applicable taxes, the exact reference and current availability. Hodinkee’s $175,600 figure was published for the 7047BR in December 2012 and is historical, not current pricing.
When assessing a particular example, compare its exact reference and case material, dial and chain treatment, dimensions, listed movement specifications, condition and provenance, warranty, local price and availability. A model-family specification does not by itself establish the details or condition of an individual watch.
