Breguet introduced the Type 20 Chronograph 2057 and Type XX Chronograph 2067 in 2023 as two takes on a new automatic flyback chronograph platform: one military-inspired, the other civilian-inspired. Both use 42 mm steel cases and share a 60-hour power reserve, 5 Hz frequency and stated 100 m water resistance. Their main differences are the dial layouts, bezels, crowns and calibres.
How the Type 20 and Type XX differ
The names reflect distinct strands of Breguet’s chronograph history. The Type 20 2057 looks to military watches made to French Air Force requirements; the Type XX 2067 takes its cues from early civilian Type XX models. Breguet continues to use Type 20 for its military-inspired line and Type XX for its civilian-inspired line.

The two-register layout and pear-shaped crown give the 2057 a more overtly military character. The 2067’s extra chronograph register and 12-hour bezel provide a different presentation and timekeeping arrangement, while its flat crown distinguishes the case profile. The launch article reported two strap options for each model; this does not establish current replacement-strap availability or compatibility.
What the two watches share
Each reference has a 42 mm steel case measuring 14.1 mm thick and an automatic flyback chronograph movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch. Breguet specifies a 5 Hz frequency, 60-hour power reserve and 100 m water resistance for both.
A flyback lets the wearer reset and restart the chronograph in one operation, rather than stopping, resetting and starting it separately. That is useful when timing successive intervals. The shared specifications do not mean the two watches have identical movements: the 2057 uses calibre 7281, while the 2067 uses calibre 728.
What Breguet says about the movement development
Breguet says it spent four years developing the related movements. Its stated aims included preventing the chronograph seconds hand from jumping when started or stopped, reducing hand flutter while running, limiting the effect of chronograph operation on timekeeping, and returning the hands to zero quickly and smoothly regardless of pusher force. These are manufacturer-stated design goals, not independent test results.

- 100M WATER RESISTANCE: The screw-down crown and screw-down case back support a 100M water-resistance rating for daily wear and suitable surface-water use. Always tighten the crown fully before contact with water, do not operate the chronograph pushers while the watch is wet or submerged, and avoid hot water, steam and diving. Water resistance should be checked periodically as seals age.
- COMPACT 39MM WRIST PROFILE: The WD1863 measures 39mm across the bezel, with a 41mm mid-case, 46mm lug-to-lug length, 12.9mm thickness including the raised crystal and 20mm lug width. These proportions balance the detail of a three-register chronograph with a wearable footprint. The 20mm bracelet remains proportionate to the case, while the raised crystal adds vintage depth to the compact design.
The historical Type 20 and Type XX background
Monochrome’s 2023 history account traces the military Type 20 name to French Air Force requirements and reports several orders associated with the earlier watches:
- Monochrome says the French Air Force ordered 1,100 watches in 1954, delivered from 1955 to 1959.
- It reports that the Centre d’Essais en Vol ordered 80 watches, delivered in 1956 and 1957.
- It says the French Navy ordered 500 watches in 1958, with delivery completed on 13 January 1960.
- For the early civilian generations discussed, Monochrome reports about 2,000 Type XX watches sold.
These quantities are figures from Monochrome’s historical account, not a current manufacturer-issued dataset. The 2023 watches reinterpret the two traditions; they are not presented here as reproductions of the earlier service watches.

Launch price and current availability
On 6 June 2023, Monochrome reported a price of EUR 19,100 including taxes for each reference and described both as permanent-collection models available at that time. That is launch-era pricing, not a current quote or confirmation of stock.
