The cited models use thermocompensated SuperQuartz rather than an automatic mechanical movement. Breitling’s US product pages list the steel reference A72310101C1A1 at USD 5,150 and the two-tone U72310531A1U1 at USD 11,150, both excluding sales tax; those displayed prices can change. The pages do not state a release date, so “new release” should not be read as a dated launch claim.
What is the Breitling Chronomat 28?
It is the 28 mm member of Breitling’s Chronomat collection. The two references covered here show the range of case and bracelet treatments: all stainless steel, or stainless steel combined with 18k red gold. Both are specified with Caliber 72 thermocompensated SuperQuartz. Breitling’s steel model page and two-tone model page identify their respective references and specifications.
Breitling’s product pages establish the models and their features, but do not give a dated launch announcement. The available information therefore supports describing the Chronomat 28 as a current collection offering, not assigning it a specific release date.

- Cambered sapphire, glareproofed both sides
- Signature 'Rouleaux” bracelet
- Power reserve approx. 70 hrs
- Watch movement type: Breitling 01 (Manufacture) automatic-self-wind
- Band color: silver and gold
What are the steel model’s key specifications?
For A72310101C1A1, Breitling lists a 14 mm lug width and a cambered sapphire crystal with glareproofing on both sides, in addition to the dimensions and water resistance shown above. Those dimensions may help assess whether the watch suits a wearer’s wrist, but case diameter alone does not determine fit: bracelet shape, wrist circumference and personal preference matter too. A 14 mm lug width is a specification, not confirmation that a particular aftermarket strap will fit.
What does Caliber 72 mean for everyday use?
The cited watches are quartz, not automatic. Breitling describes the movement as thermocompensated SuperQuartz, which uses temperature compensation to support timekeeping stability. The official Chronomat 28 user guide identifies the battery as type 377/SR626SW. Its June 2020 copyright date refers to the guide and does not establish when the current collection launched. How should you compare the materials and design?
The clearest confirmed difference between the listed references is material: A72310101C1A1 is stainless steel, while U72310531A1U1 combines steel and 18k red gold. Breitling also describes mother-of-pearl dial shades, traceable lab-grown diamonds, Rouleaux bracelet options and a butterfly folding clasp as Chronomat 28 collection features. The available product information does not establish a complete feature-by-feature matrix for every reference, so check the specific listing for its dial, diamond treatment and bracelet before choosing.

Is the Chronomat 28 right for you?
- Consider it if: you want a compact 28 mm watch, prefer quartz timekeeping, and value a choice between steel and mixed-metal styling.
- Check before buying: confirm the exact reference, dial and bracelet configuration, local price, and whether the watch’s dimensions and appearance suit your wrist and preferences.
- Do not assume: that every Chronomat 28 has the same dial or diamond details, that the US displayed prices apply in other countries, or that the collection has a particular launch date based on the product pages alone.
