The Movado Museum Imperiale brings the brand’s design history into a current automatic-watch collection, while a 2025 campaign frames it as a bridge between elegant design and sport-driven performance. Its name and dial evoke the Museum watch, but the Imperiale is a distinct collection with its own case sizes, materials and specifications.

How the Museum Imperiale connects to Movado’s past

Movado Group dates the company’s founding to 1881 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Its history says 19-year-old Achilles Ditesheim began with six watchmakers and adopted the name Movado in 1905. The company explains that the Esperanto word means “always in motion.” Movado Group’s company history

The Museum connection comes from a later design milestone. According to the same company history, artist Nathan George Horwitt designed the single-dot Museum dial in 1947; in 1960, the original design became the first watch dial accepted into the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent design collection. The Museum Imperiale draws on that design legacy, though it is not the original Museum watch.

What the current Museum Imperiale collection offers

Movado’s U.S. collection page showed five automatic models when retrieved, with case sizes of 33mm and 40mm. Listed prices across the displayed variants ranged from $1,995 to $2,195; these are time-sensitive catalog prices, not a guarantee of today’s price or stock. Movado Museum Imperiale collection

Specifications of the listed 40mm grey-dial model

Movado’s listing for model 0608050 specifies a Sellita SW200-1 608A automatic movement with a stated 41-hour power reserve, sapphire crystal and 100-meter water resistance. The watch also has a date window, three-row bracelet, exhibition caseback and Super-LumiNova accents. What Movado means by the collection’s “future”

Movado Group’s 2025 “Always in Motion — Since 1881” campaign featured Christian McCaffrey with the Museum Imperiale. The company described the watch as “uniting elegant design and sport-driven performance.” That is the brand’s campaign positioning, not an independent performance finding or evidence of a specific new technical innovation. Movado Group campaign announcement

The brand’s heritage page gives the design intent a broader formulation. Eric Bonnet, identified there as Lead Movado Designer, says: “A Movado watch speaks to the contemporary world. It’s a balance between heritage and modernity. Every watch becomes a bridge between the past and future.” Movado heritage page

What to check before choosing a variant

  • Case size: the listed collection included 33mm and 40mm watches. Compare the actual dimensions with a watch you already find comfortable; wrist fit depends on more than diameter.
  • Finish and dial: the shown range included steel with grey, blue or dark green sunburst dials, plus a light-yellow-gold PVD-finished steel option.
  • Exact model specifications: confirm movement, water resistance, crystal and power reserve on the individual product page. The detailed specifications cited here belong to model 0608050, not automatically to the entire collection.
  • Current price and availability: check Movado’s live listing for the exact size and finish, since catalog selections and prices may change.
