Neither is objectively better: Bugatti’s Tourbillon is the more ambitious engineering achievement as a hybrid hyper sports car, while Jacob & Co.’s Bugatti Tourbillon is the more compelling feat of miniature mechanical theatre. The watch takes inspiration from the car’s V16 architecture, but its sapphire automaton is a watch mechanism—not a working replica of the car engine. Which one wins depends on whether you value road performance or intricate horology.
What are we comparing?
These products share a design concept and a collaboration, not a purpose. The Bugatti Tourbillon is a vehicle built around a hybrid powertrain. The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon is a mechanical timepiece with a V16-shaped automaton. A fair comparison therefore asks what each does within its own category: how ambitious the car is as a vehicle, and how accomplished the watch is as a watch.
Bugatti says the watch’s automaton draws inspiration from the Tourbillon’s V16 architecture. That makes the engine motif an expression of the partnership, not evidence that the watch reproduces the car’s engine functionally. Bugatti’s collaboration announcement describes the sapphire V16 automaton, while Jacob & Co.’s product specifications identify the watch’s movement and mechanisms.
How ambitious is the Bugatti Tourbillon as a car?
A V16 at the centre of a hybrid system
Bugatti’s June 2024 launch announcement describes an 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 developed with help from Cosworth, paired with two electric motors on a front e-axle and another at the rear. Bugatti gives the combustion engine’s output as 1,000 hp and the electric motors’ output as 800 hp, for a claimed combined system output of 1,800 hp. These are the manufacturer’s announced figures, not independent test results. Bugatti’s launch release and June 2024 technical sheet provide the specifications.

The engineering case for the car is the integration: a large naturally aspirated V16 working alongside electric propulsion. That ambition is meaningful in vehicle terms, but the cited figures alone do not establish how the car performs in independent testing or how it compares with rivals on the road.
Production and delivery are dated claims
At launch in June 2024, Bugatti said it planned to build 250 cars, set a net starting price of €3.8 million, and expected customer deliveries in 2026. The same announcement said prototypes were entering testing. These are statements of plan and expectation made at launch; they do not confirm that deliveries have occurred. The current delivered-car status is not established by the cited information.

What makes the Jacob & Co. watch distinctive?
Timekeeping and mechanical display
Jacob & Co. specifies a JCAM55 hand-wound movement with 557 components and an approximately 80-hour power reserve. The watch also has a 30-second flying tourbillon, a jumping-hour display and a sapphire V16 engine-block automaton. Together, those details make it a complicated mechanical display piece as well as a timekeeper; the V16 motif is an automaton, not a powered automotive engine.
Edition and regional price
Jacob & Co.’s Japan product page lists 150 pieces for the standard model and a suggested retail price of ¥67,881,000 including tax. That figure is specific to the Japanese page as accessed in 2026 and may change; it should not be treated as a universal price or a direct comparison with Bugatti’s net car price. On the car’s own terms, the Tourbillon is the more consequential engineering project: the defining achievement is its announced hybrid powertrain. On the watch’s terms, Jacob & Co. has made the more immediate mechanical showpiece, translating that V16 idea into a compact object with a tourbillon and animated display. Those judgments are editorial conclusions based on the products’ stated purposes and specifications, not independently measured rankings.

Choose the Bugatti if the question is which object represents the bolder vehicle-engineering ambition. Choose the Jacob & Co. if the question is which turns the Tourbillon idea into the more intriguing wrist-worn mechanism. The collaboration works precisely because the two objects do different jobs: one is a hybrid car, the other a mechanical watch inspired by its architecture.
