Bulgari Japan announced the two watches on November 28, 2017, under the name “Octo Retro Maserati.” They were officially presented with Maserati at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 12, 2017. The release uses “Grand Sport” for the black model and “GrandLusso” for the gold model; the GrandSport spelling is commonly used in the model name. “Mono-retro” describes the jumping-hour and retrograde display concept, but it is not the name used for these watches in the cited launch release. Bulgari Japan’s 2017 announcement lists the references as SAP102717 and SAP102906.

In practical identification terms, the black DLC steel case and blue strap stitching point to SAP102717; the pink-gold case and brown stitching identify SAP102906. The release does not state a production quantity for either 2017 reference.

What “no longer made” can—and cannot—mean here
These are historical 2017 models, but the available documentation does not give an end-of-production date. Bulgari’s current Octo collection page presents the collection at a high level and does not name these variants in the page text reviewed. Their absence there is not proof of when production stopped. Current stock, authorized-seller availability, and resale prices are likewise not established by these sources.
How the 2017 watches fit into the Octo Maserati lineage
The shared Maserati name can obscure important differences between generations. The 2012 collaboration and 2014 limited edition are not the same watches as the 2017 BVL262 GrandSport and GrandLusso.

2012 Octo Maserati: GG7800 and chronograph functions
Maserati’s March 9, 2012 announcement describes an earlier Octo Maserati using calibre GG7800. Its functions included a jumping-hour window, retrograde minutes and date, central chronograph seconds, and retrograde chronograph counters. Maserati’s technical specifications give a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and a 38-hour power reserve. The release states: “This exclusive creation is issued in a special series bearing the Maserati Trident symbol on its transparent caseback.” That description applies to the earlier collaboration model, not specifically to the 2017 references. 2014 Octo Maserati: BVL328 Velocissimo chronograph
Bulgari’s 2014 catalogue documents a later Octo Maserati limited edition with the integrated BVL328 Velocissimo chronograph movement, silicon escapement, 50-hour power reserve, and a 41 mm steel case. Its stated production quantity was 1,914 pieces, a number Bulgari says commemorated Maserati’s founding year. 2017 GrandSport and GrandLusso: BVL262
The 2017 pair uses BVL262 and is described with jumping-hour and retrograde indications, rather than the earlier models’ documented chronograph functions. The movements, specifications, and function sets should not be treated as interchangeable.
