The CHANEL J12 H3131 is a 42 mm matte-black ceramic automatic watch identified by reference sources as the J12 Noire Mate. Retailers describe it as discontinued, and it does not appear in the current CHANEL J12 collection reviewed here; CHANEL has not been shown to have formally announced that production ended. Pre-owned examples remain listed, but their condition, documentation and asking prices vary.
What is the CHANEL J12 H3131?
My Watchsite identifies reference H3131 as the J12 Noire Mate and gives 2012 as its launch year. Its published legacy-reference specifications describe a 42 mm matte-black ceramic case and bracelet, automatic movement, black dial, unidirectional bezel, screw-down crown and luminescent hands. The source lists a triple-folding buckle, 42-hour power reserve and 200 m water resistance. These are reference-database details, not specifications confirmed on a current CHANEL product page. My Watchsite’s H3131 reference page provides the listed information.

A specialist repair page identifies the movement in an H3131 example as Cal. A10-2. That is a repair-source identification, not a published CHANEL technical specification, and it does not establish that every pre-owned example retains its original movement. The repair reference is specific to that context.
Is the Chanel J12 H3131 discontinued?
Third-party sellers describe the H3131 as discontinued. Watches of Mayfair labels it a “Discontinued model” and says it is no longer available as new, but that is retailer wording rather than an official CHANEL production-ending announcement. Watches of Mayfair’s availability page reflects that seller’s description.

CHANEL’s current J12 collection page lists contemporary models but does not include H3131 in the collection results reviewed. The page describes current black and white ceramic J12 watches, including models with Caliber 12.1 and selected 33 mm models with Caliber 12.2. Collection listings can vary by region and over time, so H3131’s absence supports saying it is not listed there as a current model—not asserting a worldwide production status. CHANEL’s J12 collection is the current reference point.
How the H3131 compares with a current J12
The following figures come from different sources and refer to different watches. They are specification context, not the result of a side-by-side performance test.
| Watch | Size and finish | Movement and reserve | Water resistance |
|---|---|---|---|
| J12 H3131 (legacy reference) | 42 mm; matte-black ceramic | Automatic; 42 hours reported by My Watchsite | 200 m reported by My Watchsite |
| Current 33 mm J12 with Caliber 12.2 | 33 mm; current CHANEL model | Caliber 12.2; approximately 50 hours, as listed by CHANEL | 200 m, as listed by CHANEL |
Sources: My Watchsite’s H3131 reference and CHANEL’s 33 mm Caliber 12.2 listing. The current watch is a different reference and movement generation, not an established direct successor to H3131.
For a practical comparison, consider case size and wrist fit, matte versus polished appearance, dial and date layout, bracelet material and closure, movement, service history and availability. The documented H3131 reference is a 42 mm matte-black ceramic automatic; current J12 options vary in size, movement and styling.
What to check before buying a pre-owned H3131
Resale listings confirm that examples can still be found, but each listing is a separate seller’s description rather than a guarantee about the model as a whole. Chrono24 displays changing examples with differing condition, paperwork, boxes and seller locations; asking prices are snapshots, not settled market values. Chrono24’s H3131 listings can show current resale availability.
- Confirm the reference: Ask for clear photographs of the watch and its markings, and check that the paperwork corresponds to the H3131.
- Check seller protections: Review the seller’s reputation, return terms and any stated authenticity documentation before committing.
- Inspect condition closely: Ask about scratches, chips and other damage to the ceramic, as well as the condition of metal components and the clasp.
- Verify fit and completeness: Confirm bracelet link count and fit, and whether the box, papers and other accessories are included.
- Ask for service records: Request available maintenance documentation and clarification about any movement work.
- Evaluate the specific listing: A GINZA RASIN listing describes one used example with a warranty card dated December 2015 and a shop inspection/refinishing in August 2026. It also says the bracelet was cleaned rather than polished. Those are facts about that individual listing, not a standard condition or service history for all H3131 watches. GINZA RASIN’s example listing gives those particulars.
No representative current price, production total, complete production interval or failure rate is established by the available sources. Judge price against the exact example’s condition, documentation, seller terms and comparable live listings rather than treating one asking price as a market-wide value.
