The pink-gold-accented Bulgari Octo Solotempo Ultranero combines a black DLC-treated steel case and glossy black dial with warm 18 kt pink-gold details. It measures 41 mm across on paper, but reviewer Justin Mastine-Frost found its angular case wore larger than that figure suggests. This review concerns the specific BGO41BBSPGVD documented in Bulgari’s 2016 US brochure—not the later red-accent or all-black variants.
What is the BGO41BBSPGVD?
Bulgari’s 2016 US brochure identifies the watch as the Octo Ultranero Solotempo, reference BGO41BBSPGVD. Its design depends on contrast: a black Diamond Like Carbon (DLC)-treated steel case and polished lacquer dial set off by an 18 kt pink-gold bezel and hand-applied pink-gold hour indexes. The crown is set with ceramic, and the integrated rubber strap continues the dark look.
The brochure specifies a transparent case back and 100 m water resistance. That is the manufacturer’s stated rating; it does not, by itself, establish suitability for a particular water activity.
How does the 41 mm Octo Solotempo wear?
Time+Tide reviewer Justin Mastine-Frost reported a 41 mm diameter, 47.4 mm lug-to-lug length, and 10.6 mm thickness in his 2016 review. The latter two dimensions come from the review, rather than the brochure, and are reported figures—not independently verified measurements.
#1 Best Overall
- Case Size: 39.30 millimeter; Band Width: 19 millimeter; Case Thickness: 9.75 millimeter
- Swiss automatic movement, 316L stainless steel case, Roman dial type, date
- Leather bracelet, butterfly clasp closure
- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 3 bar (30 m / 100 ft): Suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
Mastine-Frost’s practical impression was that the Octo wore larger than its nominal diameter because of its squared-off, angular case. He wrote, “At 41mm, and 47.4mm lug-to-lug, and only 10.6mm thick the Octo doesn’t sound nearly as large as it wears.” Despite that presence, he said it fit his small wrist. He also described the rubber strap as supple and comfortable for all-day wear. Those are one reviewer’s observations, not a guarantee of fit or comfort on another wrist.
What movement is inside, and what does BVL 193 offer?
Bulgari’s 2016 brochure lists an automatic manufacture BVL 193 movement with a date display, double barrel, and a 50-hour power reserve. The brochure also describes movement finishing that includes perlage, côtes de Genève, and anglage. These are the manufacturer’s stated specifications; the available sources do not provide accuracy test results or long-term reliability findings.

How does the pink-gold-accented dial compare with the all-black version?
On the BGO41BBSPGVD, pink-gold indexes give the glossy black lacquer dial visible contrast. Mastine-Frost praised the lacquer’s depth and reflectivity and found the warm accents effective against the black. His descriptions are aesthetic judgments, not instrumented assessments of legibility.
A later Time+Tide review of a different, all-black Ultranero variant notes that its black hands and indexes can nearly disappear against the dial unless the light falls at a favorable angle. That caveat belongs to the all-black configuration; it should not be applied wholesale to this pink-gold-accented reference. A 2017 red-accent companion is another distinct treatment, not the watch reviewed here.

What stands out in the design?
Mastine-Frost’s review highlights the case’s many sharp facets, which he found complex without looking convoluted. The black DLC surface and lacquer dial create a continuous dark impression, while the pink-gold bezel and indexes interrupt it with a warmer, more visible accent. Whether that balance feels elegant or too bold is a matter of taste; the hands-on review’s praise is a subjective response rather than a technical finding.
