What “authorized display model” means
The Solist describes store-display watches as pieces placed in an authorized retailer’s cabinet but not sold. Staff may have handled them, and customers may have tried them on. That history does not by itself establish that a particular watch is unmarked, unworn, or in any uniform condition. The Solist says its listings disclose marks and use photographs of the individual pieces. Review those details for the exact watch you are considering. The Solist’s explanation of its marketplace and categories is the company’s own description, not an independent inspection of each item.
Is ShopWorn the same as The Solist?
Yes. The company says it began as ShopWorn.com in 2015 and rebranded as The Solist in 2022; shopworn.com redirects to The Solist. Use the current site and listing when checking inventory and terms. The company names brands such as Rolex, Cartier, Omega, Bulgari, Chopard, Audemars Piguet, and Jaeger-LeCoultre, but that does not mean a particular brand or model is currently available. Display stock is not the same as pre-owned
The Solist says its main selection includes past-season and store-display stock that has never been owned or worn, while previously owned pieces are offered separately under The Covet and pre-owned collections. These are the retailer’s category descriptions. Check the category and item details rather than treating “display” or “shopworn” as proof of an individual watch’s history.

What to verify on the watch listing
Condition and photographs
Read the condition description and inspect the photos for signs of handling or marks. The Solist says listings disclose marks and its pieces are photographed individually. If the photos or wording leave a point unclear, ask the retailer about that specific watch before ordering.
Reference, serial information, and provenance
Compare the exact reference and any serial information shown with the watch’s photographs and description. The Solist says most pieces are sourced from brands or authorized retailers, and that serial numbers and hallmarks remain intact. A 2020 ShopWorn release also said products were sourced directly from brands or authorized retailers and guaranteed authentic. These are company statements, not an independent authentication finding for every current listing. Ask about missing information that matters to you; do not infer a service history or manufacturer warranty from the category label.

Box, papers, and other included items
The Solist says original packaging is generally included with past-season and display stock, and that box and papers are typical for watches but not guaranteed. The individual listing is the authority on what comes with that watch. Confirm any certificate, accessories, or packaging you expect before purchase.
Warranty and service
Current warranty arrangements vary by brand and sourcing route, according to The Solist. Check who provides the warranty, its duration, coverage, start date, and service process for the particular listing. A 2017 partner-content article reported a two-year ShopWorn warranty covering manufacturer defects, but that is historical and should not be taken as current policy. Price and purchase terms
Compare the current price with a like-for-like listing for the same reference and condition; the available evidence does not establish a general discount or savings rate. Check shipping, returns, insurance, and any geography-specific terms on the current site. The Solist notes that terms may differ outside the United States, so do not rely on old ShopWorn shipping claims or assume U.S. terms apply elsewhere.
A practical pre-purchase checklist
- Confirm the category: establish whether the listing is display or past-season stock, or a pre-owned item in The Covet or another pre-owned collection.
- Match the watch: verify the exact reference, size, photographs, and any available serial information.
- Read condition details: look for disclosed marks and ask about anything not clear from the description or images.
- List included items: use the listing to confirm box, papers, and any stated certificates or accessories.
- Get warranty specifics: confirm provider, duration, coverage, start date, and service route for that watch.
- Review current terms: check price, shipping, returns, insurance, and applicable terms for your country.
- Recheck availability: confirm the listing is still active before deciding, since stock may be one-of-a-kind.
How to judge whether a listing is right for you
A display-model purchase may suit a buyer who is comfortable with a watch having spent time on retail display and who can verify the piece’s condition, documentation, warranty, and terms from its listing. If you require a pristine, untouched watch, a particular manufacturer-backed warranty, or a specific set of papers, do not assume those from the display label: confirm them in writing or choose a listing or seller that explicitly meets the requirement.
