Hayek (SUPZ100). They are not an official Swatch ranking: this is a subjective shortlist of watches with notably different designs, mechanisms, and collecting appeal. The specifications and historical price estimates below come from Fratello Watches’ guide published January 29, 2022; its prices are not current market quotes.
How to choose among these 2000s Swatches
Pick by what you want the watch to do or express, rather than treating “best” as a single winner. The five options range from an everyday-looking automatic to a scarce themed set and unusual mechanical collectibles.
| Model | Best fit | Standout character |
|---|---|---|
| Diaphane Oscillation (SVDK1000) | A mechanical display with a more accessible design | Transparent case and skeletonized automatic movement |
| Irony Automatic Chronograph (SVGK403) | A larger chronograph | 42mm case, automatic chronograph caliber, and white styling |
| James Bond 40th Anniversary Box Set | Themed collecting and set completeness | Twenty watches, each tied to a Bond film |
| Diaphane One (SVAK1001) | An unusual mechanical collectible | Revolving movement plate; limited production |
| Puzzle Motion Nicolas G. Hayek (SUPZ100) | Playful artwork and a changing dial | Four rotating discs and a limited run |
Fit is reference-specific. Swatch defines its Gent family as 34mm and New Gent as 41mm, but those family dimensions should not be applied to unrelated watches. Check the exact model’s measurements and case shape. Swatch’s overview of its families, including Irony, Skin, Diaphane, and Chrono Plastic, is on its official collections page.
Five notable Swatch watches from the 2000s
Diaphane Oscillation (SVDK1000): transparent mechanical design
Fratello dates the Diaphane collection’s introduction to 2002, with Diaphane Automatic, Chrono, Olympic, and Navigator styles. The highlighted Oscillation has a 41.5mm transparent plastic case, metal bezel, open dial, 11.3mm thickness, and 48.7mm lug-to-lug measurement. The guide identifies its automatic movement as an ETA 2841-1 with a skeletonized treatment. These are the guide’s reported details, not the findings of an independent examination.

Irony Automatic Chronograph (SVGK403): an automatic chronograph
Fratello describes a five-model Irony Automatic Chronograph series dating to 2009 and singles out the white SVGK403. Its 42mm plastic case is paired with a stainless-steel bezel, pushers, and crown. The guide identifies an automatic ETA C01.211 chronograph caliber, sapphire crystal, and semi-opaque caseback. It also notes that the original white rubber or leather straps can discolor, so inspect the strap’s condition rather than assuming a white example will remain pristine.
James Bond 40th Anniversary Box Set: a themed collector’s set
The 2002 briefcase set contains 20 watches, each themed to a Bond film released by then. Fratello reports that 280 sets were produced and highlights designs representing Dr. No, Goldfinger, Octopussy, and Moonraker. For a set purchase, completeness is a central part of the proposition: verify that the watches and briefcase shown in the listing match what is actually included.

Diaphane One (SVAK1001): the mechanical collectible
Fratello dates the Diaphane One to 2001 and reports a 2,222-piece production run, including a separate 222-piece Place Vendôme release. Its movement was developed by Jaeger-LeCoultre and mounted on a plate that revolves twice per hour. The guide explicitly says it is not a tourbillon, despite informal descriptions that may call it one. This is the choice for a buyer interested in an unusual mechanism and collectible design, not a typical low-cost Swatch.
Puzzle Motion Nicolas G. Hayek (SUPZ100): artwork in motion
The Puzzle Motion series ran from 2007 to 2009. Its four rotating discs complete one full turn each hour, and the SUPZ100, released in late 2008, depicts Swatch founder Nicolas G. Hayek. Fratello reports a limited run of 1,000 pieces and says the face appears correctly assembled for one minute each hour.

Historical prices are not current valuations
The following are estimates or historical prices reported by Fratello Watches on January 29, 2022. They are useful as context for that article’s publication date, not as 2026 asking prices or a current valuation. Condition, completeness, and the specific market listing can materially affect what a buyer encounters.
| Watch or set | Figure reported by Fratello in 2022 | What the figure describes |
|---|---|---|
| Diaphane Oscillation | CHF 180; approximately €100–€150 | CHF 180 was the launch price; €100–€150 was Fratello’s estimate roughly twenty years later. |
| Irony Automatic Chronograph SVGK403 | €285 | Reported launch price; Fratello estimated a pre-owned example at approximately the same amount. |
| James Bond 40th Anniversary Box Set | Approximately €4,500–€7,000 | Recent auction results as reported in the 2022 guide. |
| Diaphane One SVAK1001 | €3,330; approximately €3,000–€4,000 | €3,330 was the reported 2001 original price; €3,000–€4,000 was the guide’s estimate for a new example. |
| Puzzle Motion SUPZ100 | Approximately €75–€150 | Fratello’s condition-dependent estimate. |
To judge a price today, compare recent completed sales and listings for the same reference in similar condition and with similar completeness. A broad price for a model is less useful when the examples differ in originality, wear, or included parts.

How to check a vintage Swatch listing
Begin with the claimed reference and production era, then compare the listing against documented examples of that exact model. A single logo, box, mark, or reference number is not enough to establish authenticity. Look for several details that agree; a replaced strap can change a watch’s appearance without changing the watch’s identity, while aging or damage alone does not prove it is fake.
- Confirm the reference and era. Ask for clear photographs and compare the claimed model number and approximate production date with reliable documentation for that model.
- Compare the watch’s design. Check dial typography and artwork, hands, case silhouette and proportions, construction materials, crown, crystal, and strap connection against documented examples.
- Assess condition and originality separately. Note wear, damage, discoloration, and any replacement parts. Record whether the strap is original as a separate question from whether the watch itself is authentic.
- Ask what is included. For a boxed set, establish which watches, case, and other components are present; do not infer completeness from a photograph or title alone.
- Use specialist guidance cautiously. SwatchVintage’s identification advice is retailer-published guidance, not a substitute for an independent watchmaker’s assessment.
The Swatch Group describes Nicolas G. Hayek’s strategy as creating a “low-cost, high-tech, artistic, and emotional Swiss Made ‘second watch’” on its history page. That context helps explain why Swatch watches can combine accessible design with ambitious mechanical or artistic ideas; it does not make every vintage example inexpensive or easy to authenticate.
