Yes, some Samsung Galaxy Watches can estimate blood pressure, but the feature is not a substitute for a conventional blood-pressure monitor or medical advice. Samsung Health Monitor requires an upper-arm cuff for setup and recalibration every 28 days. Samsung describes the feature as a wellness tool, and the sources available do not establish independent real-world accuracy or verify its U.S. FDA authorization status.
How Samsung Watch blood-pressure monitoring works
Compatible Galaxy Watches use their heart-rate sensors to estimate systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Samsung describes the method as pulse-wave analysis: the app compares the watch’s sensor data with blood-pressure values established during cuff calibration, then uses changes in the pulse-wave signal to estimate later readings. It is therefore a calibrated cuffless estimate—not a fresh cuff measurement each time you check.
Samsung first announced South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety clearance for the app in April 2020. That historical, market-specific announcement does not establish U.S. FDA authorization. Samsung’s 2020 announcement explains the original feature and measurement approach.
What you need to use it in the United States
Samsung announced a phased U.S. rollout beginning March 31, 2026. Its announcement lists Galaxy Watch4 and later released models, excluding Galaxy Fit. The watch must run Wear OS 4.0 or later, and the connected phone must run Android 12 or later. Samsung Health Monitor is enabled through a connected Galaxy phone; service may also be restricted by country or region. Check Samsung’s U.S. availability announcement for the feature’s stated compatibility.

You also need a separately purchased third-party upper-arm blood-pressure cuff. Samsung’s support guide requires three cuff readings within 30 minutes during initial calibration; you enter those readings in the app. The watch must be recalibrated with the cuff every 28 days. Samsung’s cited materials do not name or endorse a specific cuff model. See Samsung’s setup and measurement instructions.
How to calibrate and take a reading
Prepare for calibration or measurement
- For at least 30 minutes beforehand, avoid smoking, bathing, exercise, alcohol, and caffeine.
- Measure indoors in a quiet place. Sit with your back supported, legs uncrossed, and feet flat; rest your hands and forearms on a table.
- Remain seated in that position for at least five minutes before measuring.
- Keep your arm and wrist dry. Wear the watch snugly, but not tightly, on the same wrist you use for measurements.
Calibrate with the cuff
- Follow the Samsung Health Monitor app’s setup instructions on your connected Galaxy phone.
- Take three readings with an upper-arm cuff within a 30-minute period, staying still and not talking during the cuff readings.
- Enter the cuff readings in the app when prompted to calibrate the watch.
Use the app’s instructions for subsequent readings, and repeat cuff calibration every 28 days. Calibration is a recurring requirement, not a one-time setup step.

How accurate is a Galaxy Watch blood-pressure reading?
The available official materials specify how to calibrate and use the feature, but they do not establish that readings match a cuff across users, conditions, or real-world use. No feature-specific independent accuracy study or performance figure is established by those sources. It would therefore be misleading to describe the watch as equivalent to a cuff or to promise a particular level of accuracy.
The FDA’s September 16, 2025 safety communication warns consumers not to use unauthorized blood-pressure devices, including wearable software features that claim to measure or estimate blood pressure. The agency says devices whose authorization has not been evaluated may give inaccurate readings and advises people whose medical care depends on accurate measurements to consult a health professional about an appropriate FDA-authorized device. The warning is general; the sources cited here do not verify the Galaxy Watch feature’s specific U.S. FDA authorization status. Read the FDA safety communication.

In January 2026, the FDA also issued draft guidance on clinical performance testing and evaluation for cuffless, non-invasive blood-pressure devices. The agency labels it draft, says it is not for implementation, and describes non-binding recommendations for premarket submissions. It is regulatory context, not a finding about Samsung’s performance. Read the FDA draft guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you use watch readings instead of a blood-pressure monitor?
No. Samsung says the feature is not intended to diagnose disease or other conditions, or to cure, mitigate, treat, or prevent disease. The watch’s reading is a calibrated estimate, while a cuff-based monitor takes a blood-pressure measurement with a cuff. If you need readings for medical care or decisions, ask a health professional which monitor is appropriate for you; do not use the watch as a replacement.
