The headline “$480 off” referred to the maximum combined value of a July 2024 U.S. preorder promotion—not a $480 cash discount available to every buyer. Droid Life’s contemporaneous breakdown combined up to $350 in trade-in credit, a $50 Shop Samsung app discount and a bonus Trail band it valued at $80. The promotion was tied to the original Galaxy Watch Ultra launch and is not established as available today.
How the $480 headline was calculated
Droid Life reported the original Galaxy Watch Ultra at a launch price of $649.99 and described three parts to the preorder deal. Its $480 figure was the sum of the maximum stated trade-in credit, the app discount and the publisher’s stated value for the included band.
| Deal component | What the July 2024 report said | What it meant for a buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Trade-in | Up to $350; Droid Life named the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic as examples receiving the maximum at the time. | The amount depended on the trade-in model; other watches received lower values. |
| App discount | $50 off when buying through the Shop Samsung app. | A purchase-channel discount, not a universal reduction available through every checkout path. |
| Bonus band | A free Trail band, valued at $80 by Droid Life. | An accessory’s stated value, not cash taken off the watch price. |
| Maximum combined value | $480, calculated as $350 + $50 + $80. | A conditional total that mixed trade-in credit, an app discount and a non-cash accessory value. |
The figures and offer details above are attributed to Droid Life’s July 10, 2024 report. The original official Samsung promotion terms are not established here, so the breakdown should be understood as that report’s description rather than independently verified Samsung terms.
Why $480 was not a $480 cash discount for everyone
Only the app discount directly reduced the purchase price without requiring a trade-in or assigning value to an accessory. The trade-in portion required an eligible device and varied by model; the $350 maximum was not promised for every watch. The $80 band value represented an accessory included with the reported offer, not an additional cash credit.

As a result, a shopper without a qualifying high-value trade-in—or one who did not use the app—would not receive the full stated combination. Even for someone eligible for all three components, “up to $480 in combined value” is more accurate than “$480 off the watch.”
Is the preorder deal still available?
No current availability is established for this 2024 launch promotion. Samsung’s current U.S. smartwatch offers page, accessed October 8, 2026, describes offers for newer products, including Galaxy Watch Ultra2 offers; it does not show that the original 2024 deal remains live. Promotions and trade-in terms can change, so use the current offer page and checkout terms rather than relying on the old headline.

What to check when shopping for a Galaxy Watch Ultra now
The 2024 article explains a past launch offer, but it does not establish today’s price, stock or trade-in value. Before buying, compare the actual checkout total and confirm which watch is in the listing.
- Current out-of-pocket price: Check the price shown for the exact listing and whether any present-day discount appears at checkout.
- Trade-in details: Confirm that your specific device qualifies and note its quoted credit. Read the current terms for model and condition requirements, and whether the credit is instant or subject to inspection.
- Generation and connectivity: Verify that the listing is for the original Galaxy Watch Ultra and check whether it is LTE or another configuration. Do not assume a later-generation or region-specific listing is the same product.
- Included accessories: Check what comes in the current package before assigning value to an extra band.
Samsung’s current U.S. offers page is the place to review live offer and trade-in terms. Samsung’s wearables MSRP price list, effective December 2025, lists a Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE refresh at $649.99. That official list is a reference for the named refresh model, not proof of the original 2024 preorder deal’s current price or availability.
