Samsung’s iPhone-compatible options are older Tizen models: the 2018 Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Watch Active2. Galaxy Watch4 and every later generation—including Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Galaxy Watch Ultra—are not compatible with iOS through Samsung’s supported setup path.
Which Samsung watches work with an iPhone?
Samsung’s support guidance draws the dividing line at Galaxy Watch4. The older Tizen-based watches below are listed as compatible; the newer Wear OS-based models are not. Samsung’s US list specifies an iPhone 5 or later running iOS 9 or later for the older watches, but check the current app listing and regional support page before buying a used model.
| Samsung watch | Official iPhone compatibility | Practical verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch (2018) | Yes, listed by Samsung | Older, limited smartwatch; consider only if the app and watch still meet your needs. |
| Galaxy Watch Active | Yes, listed by Samsung | Limited legacy option. |
| Galaxy Watch Active2 | Yes, listed by Samsung | The most relevant legacy Samsung option for an iPhone owner, but not a current-platform equivalent to Apple Watch. |
| Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic | No | Do not buy for use with an iPhone. |
| Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro | No | Do not buy for use with an iPhone. |
| Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic | No | Do not buy for use with an iPhone. |
| Galaxy Watch FE | No | Do not buy for use with an iPhone. |
| Galaxy Watch7 | No | Do not buy for use with an iPhone. |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra | No | LTE does not change the compatibility verdict. |
| Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic | No | Do not buy for use with an iPhone. |
Samsung’s current compatibility information is available for the US, Canada and the UK. Regional app availability and requirements can differ.
What works with an older compatible Galaxy Watch?
An older compatible watch can provide a basic connection through Samsung’s iPhone companion software. Depending on the watch, iPhone, iOS version, app version and connection, you may be able to see notifications, track activity or workouts, manage watch faces, sync some Samsung Health data, and use some call alerts or music controls.

Do not assume every function works on every model. Samsung’s developer documentation describes limitations for Galaxy Watch apps and companion-app communication on iPhone: Galaxy Watch app limitations for iPhone. Samsung Health is listed in Apple’s App Store, but app availability alone does not mean that every Galaxy Watch is supported: Samsung Health on the App Store.
For an existing owner, a compatible older watch may remain usable if its battery is sound and basic notifications and fitness tracking are enough. Before buying one used, verify the exact model and region, confirm the companion app installs on your iPhone, check the battery, and make sure the watch has been reset and removed from the previous owner’s account. Technical pairing today does not guarantee future iOS or app support.
What is missing or restricted with an iPhone?
The main loss is not necessarily the ability to see a notification; it is the depth and reliability of the interaction. An older Galaxy Watch may mirror alerts, but two-way messaging, replies, app support and synchronization are more limited than with a watch designed for iPhone. Newer Galaxy Watches cannot be set up and managed through Samsung’s normal iOS pathway at all.

- Samsung Health Monitor: Features such as ECG, irregular heart rhythm notifications, sleep apnea functions and blood-pressure-related tools depend on supported watch and phone combinations, software, setup, regional availability and regulatory approval. Samsung’s US guidance specifies Samsung-phone requirements for relevant configurations. See Samsung Health Monitor and Samsung’s compatibility guidance.
- Samsung phone-dependent features: Some health and Galaxy AI functions require a compatible Galaxy phone, Samsung Health, a Samsung account or region-specific services. Availability is not determined by the watch’s sensors alone. Samsung describes wearable feature availability in its One UI 6 Watch announcement and Samsung Health information.
- Apple ecosystem integration: A Galaxy Watch does not provide Apple Watch’s native setup and management, deep Apple Health integration, Apple Wallet experience, Find My integration, Siri handoff or Activity-ring and Apple Fitness+ integration. The difference is especially important if you want watch apps and messages to behave like extensions of your iPhone.
Samsung Health being available on iPhone is a separate matter from whether a particular watch can pair with iOS. Check both the watch compatibility list and the app’s current requirements before relying on a feature.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why did newer Galaxy Watches drop iPhone support?
The older iPhone-compatible Galaxy watches ran Samsung’s Tizen platform. Galaxy Watch4 and later moved to a Wear OS-based platform. Samsung says these newer watches depend on Google Play services, which iOS does not support; this is why Samsung’s current documentation excludes the Watch4 generation and later from iPhone compatibility. The change affects the whole supported setup path, not just one app or a notification setting.
Does LTE make a Galaxy Watch compatible with an iPhone?
No. LTE can let a supported watch use a cellular connection away from its paired phone, subject to the watch, carrier and account setup. It does not supply the missing iOS compatibility needed for setup, app management, updates or phone-dependent health features. Samsung describes LTE as a way to use compatible Galaxy Watch functions without carrying the phone nearby, not as a way to pair an unsupported watch with iOS: Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE information.

Apple makes a similar distinction between GPS and GPS + Cellular models: a cellular Apple Watch can do more without its iPhone nearby, while GPS models rely more on a nearby iPhone or Wi-Fi for calls, messages and notifications. Cellular independence and phone-platform compatibility are separate questions. See Apple Watch SE buying information.
Galaxy Watch or Apple Watch for an iPhone?
For iPhone owners, the practical comparison is a limited legacy Samsung connection versus a watch built for iOS. The following describes official compatibility and typical ecosystem integration, not a guarantee that every feature is available in every region or configuration.

Apple’s current lineup includes the SE 3, Series 11 and Ultra 3. Apple lists these as requiring an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. In the US store, the SE 3 starts at $249 and Series 11 at $399; these are observed starting prices, and the configured model, connectivity and current storefront determine the price. Apple’s detailed Ultra 3 buying page showed a $799 starting signal, while its general shop displayed a different “from” signal, so check the exact configuration before buying. What should an iPhone owner buy?
Choose Apple Watch for integrated iPhone use
The Apple Watch is the default choice if you want straightforward setup, Apple Health, interactive notifications, calls and messages, Wallet, Find My and broad iPhone app support. The SE 3 is the lower-cost route into the ecosystem; Series 11 is a more complete everyday option; Ultra 3 suits buyers prioritizing a rugged outdoor model and willing to pay for it. Current Apple models require an iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26 or later.
Choose Samsung only if the companion phone will be Android
A current Galaxy Watch may make sense if you already use a compatible Samsung phone, plan to switch to Android, want Samsung-specific features, or are buying for an Android user. Round cases, Classic models’ rotating bezel and the Ultra’s outdoor-oriented design may appeal, but design preference does not change the iPhone support boundary.
For context, Samsung’s March 2026 US MSRP sheet lists Galaxy Watch8 Bluetooth at $349.99 for 40mm and $379.99 for 44mm; LTE versions at $399.99 and $429.99; Watch8 Classic at $499.99 Bluetooth or $549.99 LTE; and Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE at $649.99. These are suggested prices, not necessarily current sale prices, and the models are not suitable for official iPhone pairing. Samsung US wearable MSRP sheet (March 2026).

Choose an older Samsung model only with realistic expectations
If Samsung hardware is a priority and you will keep using an iPhone, the Galaxy Watch Active2 is the most relevant officially compatible Samsung option. Treat it as a used or clearance-market device, not a current smartwatch: age, battery condition, app support and future software compatibility matter, and newer Samsung health features should not be assumed.
Consider cross-platform fitness watches for different priorities
If longer battery life, workout tracking or compatibility across phone platforms matters more than Apple-specific integration, compare current models from Garmin, Withings, Fitbit or Amazfit. Their notification interaction, payments, health features, cellular calling and Apple Health synchronization vary by model. Verify iOS support and the exact features you need on each manufacturer’s current official pages.
What if I use an Android phone just to set up the watch?
Pairing a newer Galaxy Watch to an old Android phone while keeping an iPhone as your everyday phone is an improvised split setup, not an officially supported iPhone pairing. The Android device remains the management phone, and notifications, health records, app updates, backups, LTE activation and troubleshooting may be divided between devices. Samsung Health and Apple Health may not form one seamless record. This approach is suitable only for someone willing to manage the extra friction, not for dependable daily iPhone integration.
Are third-party bridge apps a solution?
Some third-party apps may claim to bridge newer Galaxy Watches and iPhones, but they are not equivalent to Samsung support. Depending on the app, they may offer only notification access, without dependable health syncing, message replies or outgoing calls. A watch, iOS or bridge-app update can break the setup, and granting access to notifications or personal data raises privacy questions. Treat these as hobbyist experiments rather than a reliable purchase plan.
What if I own both an iPhone and a Samsung phone?
Decide which phone is the watch’s actual companion before buying or setting it up. The paired phone determines the setup and recovery route, where health data is managed, which notifications arrive and which apps and services are available. If the Samsung phone is paired but the iPhone is your daily device, expect a fragmented experience rather than a single watch that fully serves both phones.
