Yes, but only with certain older Samsung watches. Samsung’s Tizen-based models—including the 2018 Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2, and Galaxy Watch3—can pair with an iPhone through Samsung’s iOS app. The Galaxy Watch4 and every newer Wear OS Galaxy Watch cannot pair with an iPhone, including the Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch FE, Watch Ultra, and Watch8 series.
If you are buying a Samsung watch for an iPhone, check the exact generation before paying. A listing that simply says “Samsung Galaxy Watch” is not specific enough.

Quick compatibility checker
Use the model name—not the watch’s appearance—to determine compatibility. Samsung’s regional support pages can show slightly different current model lists, but their central rule is consistent: Wear OS Galaxy Watches are not compatible with iOS.
| Samsung wearable | iPhone compatibility | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch, 2018 | Yes | Older Tizen model; requires Samsung’s Galaxy Watch app |
| Galaxy Watch Active | Yes | Older Tizen model |
| Galaxy Watch Active2 | Yes | Samsung lists it as iOS-compatible |
| Galaxy Watch3 | Yes | Older Tizen model with feature limitations |
| Galaxy Watch4 / Watch4 Classic | No | Wear OS; Android required |
| Galaxy Watch5 / Watch5 Pro | No | Wear OS; Android required |
| Galaxy Watch6 / Watch6 Classic | No | Wear OS; Android required |
| Galaxy Watch7 | No | Wear OS; Android required |
| Galaxy Watch FE | No | Wear OS; Android required |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra | No | Wear OS; Android required |
| Galaxy Watch8 / Watch8 Classic | No | Samsung Canada lists these as dependent on Google Play services and incompatible with iOS |
| Gear S2, Gear S3, Gear Sport | Some models: yes | Very old platform; verify the exact model and app support |
| Gear Fit2 / Gear Fit2 Pro | Yes for listed models | Fitness-band functionality rather than a modern smartwatch experience |
| Galaxy Fit | Yes for listed models | Samsung lists iPhone 7 or later and iOS 10 or later for certain compatibility guidance |

The rule to remember: Galaxy Watch4 and newer do not work with iPhone
Samsung moved its newer Galaxy Watches from Tizen to Google’s Wear OS beginning with the Galaxy Watch4. These watches depend on Google Play services and an Android-based setup process that iOS does not support. Samsung explicitly states that Wear OS Galaxy Watches require an Android phone and are not compatible with iPhone.
This is not simply a Bluetooth problem. Bluetooth is only the connection layer. A smartwatch also needs a compatible companion app, operating-system services, account integration, and a supported setup path. An iPhone may detect a modern Galaxy Watch in its Bluetooth menu, but that does not make the watch compatible.
The same restriction applies to LTE models. Cellular connectivity can let a supported watch operate away from a phone after setup, but LTE does not remove the Android requirement or make a Galaxy Watch4-or-newer model an iPhone companion.

How to identify your exact watch
Do not rely on the case design. Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch FE, Watch Ultra, and Watch8 models can resemble older watches that do support iPhone.

- Check the exact name on the box, receipt, or original product listing.
- On the watch, open its information or about screen and record the model number.
- Check the model recognized by Samsung’s companion app, if the watch has previously been connected.
- Look for whether the product is described as using Wear OS. Wear OS Galaxy Watches are not iPhone-compatible.
A seller who describes an item only as “Galaxy Watch” has not supplied enough information. Ask for the generation and model number before buying.
How to pair a compatible older Samsung watch with an iPhone
Before you start
- Confirm that the exact watch appears on Samsung’s iOS-compatible list.
- Charge both the watch and iPhone.
- Update the iPhone to the latest iOS version it supports.
- Install the appropriate Samsung app from the App Store: Samsung Galaxy Watch for compatible watches or Samsung Galaxy Fit for supported Galaxy Fit devices.
- Turn on Bluetooth and keep the watch close to the iPhone.
- If the watch belonged to someone else, check whether important data needs to be preserved before resetting it.
Samsung recommends using the companion app rather than pairing the watch manually from the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings. The app is the normal route for selecting the model, completing setup, and granting permissions.

Pairing steps
- Open the Samsung Galaxy Watch app, or the Galaxy Fit app for a compatible fitness band.
- Tap Start the Journey or the equivalent setup button shown in your current app version.
- Select the exact watch model.
- Accept the requested terms and permissions.
- Confirm that the Bluetooth pairing code matches on both devices.
- Follow the remaining on-screen setup instructions.
- Sign in to a Samsung account if prompted.
- Allow notifications, contacts, health, location, and other permissions only for the features you want to use.
App labels can vary by iOS version, app version, and region. Samsung’s setup instructions describe the same general flow: open the app, choose START THE JOURNEY, select the device, and follow the connection prompts.
What an older compatible watch can do
An older iPhone-compatible Samsung watch may provide some combination of:
- Timekeeping and watch faces
- Activity and basic fitness tracking
- Notifications
- Some health data
- Bluetooth connectivity
- Some call- or message-related functions, depending on the model and permissions
- Watch settings and app management through Samsung’s iOS app
The exact feature set depends on the model, firmware, iPhone, iOS release, region, and current app support. Samsung warns that some features and services may be unavailable when an older watch is connected to an iPhone.

What may be missing or limited
Do not expect a supported older Samsung watch to offer the same experience as a current Apple Watch—or the same features it offers when paired with a Samsung phone.
| Feature | What to expect with a compatible older Samsung watch |
|---|---|
| Setup | Available through the appropriate Samsung iOS app for supported models only |
| Notifications | May work, but requires iPhone, Bluetooth, app, and notification permissions |
| Fitness tracking | Generally available in some form; exact sensors and data vary by model |
| Health tracking | Model-, app-, region-, and platform-dependent; do not assume every advanced feature works |
| Calls and messages | May be limited by model, iPhone permissions, connection type, and carrier support |
| Payments | Not equivalent to the Samsung-phone experience; Samsung notes that some functions are limited to Samsung smartphones |
| Apps | Older Tizen app ecosystem, not the modern Wear OS ecosystem |
| Apple Health | Verify support for the exact model and current app; do not assume universal integration |
| LTE | Does not make a Wear OS watch iPhone-compatible; carrier and regional support also vary |
| Software updates | Older watches have a less certain long-term app, firmware, and iOS-support outlook |
Samsung documents platform, device, region, and Galaxy-phone requirements for certain services, including advanced health features. For example, relevant Galaxy Watch health documentation lists Android and compatible Galaxy-phone requirements. Check the feature’s current requirements rather than assuming that a sensor on the watch guarantees access to the feature on iPhone.

Troubleshooting common connection problems
“The watch appears in Bluetooth, but the app cannot connect.”
Manual Bluetooth pairing is not a substitute for the manufacturer’s setup process.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth on the iPhone and forget or remove the watch.
- Restart both the iPhone and watch.
- Open the correct Samsung app.
- Start pairing from inside the app, not from Bluetooth settings.
- Confirm the app’s Bluetooth, notification, contact, health, and other requested permissions.
- If the watch remains linked to another phone, reset it only after checking whether important data is backed up.
- Retry with both devices close together.
“I installed Galaxy Wearable, but my Watch4, Watch5, or Watch6 will not connect.”
This is expected for an iPhone. Samsung says Wear OS Galaxy Watches are not compatible with iOS. The practical options are to use the watch with a compatible Android phone or return and exchange it if it was purchased for iPhone use. Installing a different Samsung app or repeatedly changing Bluetooth settings will not overcome the platform restriction.

“The watch was previously paired with an Android phone.”
A used watch may need a factory reset before it can connect to a new phone. Menu names differ by model, so use the instructions for that exact watch. A reset can erase locally stored watch data and downloaded content; confirm that anything important has been backed up first.
“It pairs, but notifications or health data do not work.”
- Check the iPhone’s notification permissions.
- Confirm Bluetooth and background app permissions.
- Review permissions inside the Samsung app.
- Disable or adjust Focus and Do Not Disturb modes.
- Check whether the watch is connected through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
- Confirm that the particular feature is supported on iOS for that model.
- Check whether the feature requires a Samsung Galaxy phone.
Very old iPhones may also be unstable with older watches. Samsung’s U.K. guidance specifically warns that iPhone 6S and 6S Plus devices running iOS 10 or later may experience unstable connections.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can an Android phone be used just for setup?
Samsung’s documentation says Wear OS Galaxy Watches require a compatible Android phone for setup, but that does not establish official ongoing iPhone compatibility. For Galaxy Watch4 and later, Samsung’s stated position is that the watches are not compatible with iOS. An Android setup workaround should therefore not be treated as a supported way to use the watch with an iPhone.
Should you buy an older Samsung watch for an iPhone?
Usually, no—unless it is very inexpensive and your expectations are modest. A used Galaxy Watch 2018, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2, or Galaxy Watch3 can make sense if you mainly want basic notifications, timekeeping, and fitness functions and the seller offers returns. It is a niche bargain, not a current equivalent to an Apple Watch.

Before buying, check:
- The exact model and generation
- Whether the current Samsung app is available in your country
- Compatibility with your iPhone and iOS version
- Battery condition and charging performance
- Whether the correct charger and bands are included
- Whether the seller accepts returns
- Support for the features you actually need, such as payments, ECG, blood pressure, calls, messaging, notifications, or health tracking
- LTE carrier compatibility if cellular service matters
- Whether the price is low enough to justify an older platform with uncertain future support
Do not pay current-smartwatch money for an aging Tizen model, and do not buy a Watch4-or-newer model for iPhone use at any price.

Better alternatives for iPhone owners
Apple Watch: the seamless choice
Apple Watch is the strongest direct alternative when the priority is reliable iPhone integration, notifications, Apple Health, and broad platform support. Apple’s current U.S. buying pages list the Apple Watch SE 3 from $249 and the Apple Watch Series 11 from $399. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is positioned as the premium rugged option; configuration prices vary by case and connectivity, so check Apple’s live listing rather than relying on one universal price.
Apple states that the current Apple Watch Ultra 3, Series 11, and SE 3 require an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. Apple Watch works only with iPhone, so it is not the right choice for someone who also needs Android compatibility.

If you want longer battery life or a more platform-neutral fitness experience, consider watch brands that explicitly support iPhone. Verify the exact model’s app, features, iOS requirements, health-data integration, notifications, and current support before purchasing. The important distinction is that cross-platform support must be stated for the specific product—not inferred from Bluetooth or LTE.
Bottom line
Older Tizen-based Samsung watches can pair with an iPhone, but Galaxy Watch4 and newer Wear OS models cannot. Identify the exact model first, use Samsung’s iOS app for supported older devices, and treat advanced features as model- and region-dependent. For most iPhone owners buying new, Apple Watch is the safer integrated choice; a used older Samsung watch is sensible only as a low-cost compromise.
