Usually, no—not for ordinary contactless bank-card payments. The Huawei Watch GT 2 does not support Google Wallet watch payments, and it has no native Apple Pay route. Some NFC-equipped, mainland-China configurations may offer Huawei Wallet, transit, access-card or Alipay QR functions, but those are regional services—not proof that the watch can tap to pay with a Visa or Mastercard. In the United States, assume the GT 2 cannot make ordinary wrist-based card payments.
What “pay with the watch” can mean
NFC is the short-range radio technology used by some payment systems, but NFC hardware alone does not make a watch a bank-card wallet. The watch, software platform, payment service, card issuer and country must all be supported.

Google Wallet and Apple Pay are not solutions
Google Wallet
Google’s watch-payment requirements include Wear OS 2.0 or later, NFC, a supported country or region, Google Play Services and a supported card. The GT 2 does not run Wear OS, so the normal Google Wallet watch-payment setup does not apply. Card and country availability also vary: Google Wallet requirements for smartwatches and Google Wallet country and card availability. Google Wallet working on a paired phone does not turn the GT 2 into a payment device.

Apple Pay
The GT 2 has no native Apple Pay watch-payment route. Huawei documents Wallet limitations on older watches, including the GT 2, when paired with iOS; an Apple Pay card on an iPhone cannot be transferred to the watch. See Huawei’s iOS Wallet guidance.
How country, model and phone change the answer
Huawei documents Wallet functions for certain configurations, especially in mainland China. Availability can depend on the watch’s exact model and NFC hardware, its original market and software configuration, the Huawei account region, the Huawei Health app region, the paired phone and the service or card involved. Huawei says Wallet will not appear for a wearable without NFC and identifies mainland-China account registration as a condition for some functions: Huawei Wallet and NFC availability guidance.

Do not assume that importing a China-market model enables foreign bank cards abroad. Regional software, account eligibility, card-issuer support and service availability can still prevent setup. Huawei also publishes a country-specific NFC caveat: Huawei NFC support by country.
Check your own GT 2 before relying on it
- Find the exact model number and confirm whether that variant has NFC. Do not rely on the “GT 2” name alone; market variants may differ.
- On a compatible phone, open Huawei Health → Devices → Huawei Watch GT 2.
- Look for Wallet, NFC, Transit card, Access card or a similarly named feature. Labels and availability can vary by market and software version.
- If a feature appears, follow its enrollment flow and check that the specific card, transit system or payment service is supported in your country.
- If the option is absent, check the model, Huawei account country or region, paired phone and app region. Update Huawei Health and the watch software, then check local service availability.
A missing Wallet option is often a hardware, account-region, phone-compatibility or service-availability issue—not simply a hidden setting. Huawei’s Wallet guidance describes these dependencies. Avoid changing account regions casually: doing so does not change the watch hardware or guarantee that a bank, card or service will become eligible.

Can it work without the phone nearby?
Setup and provisioning commonly require Huawei Health and a compatible phone. After setup, some supported NFC credentials can work independently, but that applies only to the relevant model and credential—not to every GT 2 or payment type. Huawei’s guidance describes standalone use for supported NFC wearables while noting model-specific differences: Huawei guidance on using supported cards without a phone.
Do not extend that claim to QR payments: showing or scanning a QR code is different from tapping a provisioned NFC credential, and the QR service may have its own account, connectivity and app requirements.

Why workarounds are unreliable
- Installing Google Wallet: Google’s watch-payment route requires Wear OS, which the GT 2 does not use. A conventional app installation cannot supply the required watch platform and payment support.
- Importing a Chinese model: the hardware does not guarantee that a foreign account, bank card or local service is eligible.
- Changing regions or modifying software: this may affect account services or app availability, but it cannot add missing NFC hardware or guarantee issuer support. Unofficial modifications also introduce reliability and security risks.
- Assuming newer Huawei payments apply: Huawei materials identify newer models in connection with regional services such as Curve Pay; that support should not be projected onto the GT 2. See the Huawei Curve Pay offer for a newer watch and the Huawei Watch Fit 5 series terms.
Do not buy a GT 2 expecting Curve Pay, Quicko or another third-party service to add bank-card payments. The cited current Huawei material does not establish that those services support the GT 2.
What to choose if wrist payments are essential
Choose a watch whose payment service is officially supported for your country, phone and card issuer. Check the service and model before buying; availability is not universal within a product family.

If you already own a GT 2, check for a specific Huawei Wallet, transit or access function in your own configuration before replacing it. If you are buying a watch mainly to tap a bank card at stores, select a model with verified support for your country and card instead.
