Silence the watch without silencing the phone
- For a quick change: On the watch, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the quick panel, then tap the Do not disturb icon. Samsung says this mode mutes calls, notifications and other alerts on the watch. The precise control or gesture can vary by watch software version. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Do not disturb instructions.
- Check the phone-side controls: In the Galaxy Wearable app, open Watch settings > Notifications. Leave Sync Do not disturb with phone off for independent control, and do not enable Mute notifications on phone if the phone should keep making notification sounds. Menu names and locations can differ by model and software version. If the labels on your watch or in Galaxy Wearable do not match, check the instructions for your specific model.

Which setting should you use?

Samsung’s older-model guidance describes Mute connected phone in combination with Show only while wearing: when that option is enabled, the phone does not make a sound for notifications. The exact label and behavior depend on the model and software. Samsung’s notification management guidance.

If you want only some notifications to stop
Use the app notification controls in Galaxy Wearable instead of watch-wide Do not disturb. In the app, go to Watch settings > Notifications and adjust the switches for the apps you want to block on the watch. This is useful when you still want calls or alerts from other apps to reach it. If alerts still appear on the wrong device
On Watch8 models, Samsung describes Smart device selection as routing notifications to the phone while it is in use and to the watch when the phone is locked or its screen is off. Always show on both delivers notifications to both devices; Samsung notes that this may affect battery use. These are delivery choices, not a complete watch-wide mute. Theatre mode is another option, but it adjusts alerts, sound volume and screen brightness to preset values rather than serving as the direct watch-only mute described above. What to check if the phone also goes quiet
- Confirm that Sync Do not disturb with phone is off if you do not want phone DND settings shared with the watch.
- Check that Mute notifications on phone or Mute connected phone is not enabled if you expect the phone to sound.
- Review whether phone Do not disturb is active; the phone’s own DND settings can silence it independently of the watch.
Samsung’s support instructions cover recent Galaxy Watch models and broader series guidance, but do not establish a full compatibility matrix for every watch generation paired with every non-Galaxy Android phone. Exact menus and options may differ.
