Carpathia Watch Co. is a watch brand that describes itself as Chicago-rooted: its watches are designed in Chicago and assembled in Switzerland. Its first model, the Carpathia Ascent, was launched in February 2019 through Kickstarter with an automatic ETA 2824-2 Elaboré movement. What the published coverage establishes is the brand’s founding story and the Ascent’s 2019 specifications. What it does not establish is whether the company, the watch, or its prices are still available or supported in 2026.
What Carpathia is
Carpathia Watch Co. presents itself as a return of luxury watchmaking to Chicago. Its company profile on LinkedIn, accessed on October 8, 2026, says the watches are designed in Chicago and assembled in Switzerland, and it names Mark Para as founder. That profile lists 2016 as the founding year and Homer Glen, Illinois as the headquarters. These are self-described company details, not an audited account of manufacturing.
Monochrome Watches, in its February 15, 2019 launch article, names Mark and Helena Para as the founders. Readers should treat the two founder references as consistent with each other but still sourced to the brand’s own description and to launch coverage.
The name and the design story
Monochrome says the Carpathia name reflects the founders’ Polish roots, and that Chicago inspired the Art Deco design of the Ascent. Fratello Watches, in partner content published February 8, 2019, says the stork logo pays homage to the founder’s Eastern European roots. Both publications frame the brand as drawing on Chicago’s watchmaking past, but neither establishes the city’s watch-industry history in detail, so that part of the story is best read as brand narrative.

The Carpathia Ascent at launch
The Ascent is the only Carpathia model documented in the coverage reviewed here. The table below lists the specifications as published in 2019. These are manufacturer-stated and publication-reported figures. None of them is an independent measurement, and none has been confirmed for production watches sold later.

Reading the water-resistance figures
The two launch articles express the same rating differently: Monochrome gives 50 meters and Fratello gives 5 ATM. These are equivalent ways of stating a static pressure rating, but a static rating does not describe how a watch performs in water. It says nothing about diving, and the coverage does not claim suitability for any water activity. Do not read it as a diving spec.

- Date Window - Easily track the date in a dedicated window beside 3 o'clock.
- Quartz Movement - Powered by a battery, this watch ensures every second is counted with precision down to the milliseconds.
The movement
The ETA 2824-2 is a Swiss automatic movement, and both launch articles name it. Fratello also describes the decorated movement and the sapphire exhibition back. The 38-hour power reserve, 4 Hz beat rate, and daily-rate tolerance are the publisher-reported figures for this movement as fitted to the Ascent. They were not verified by hands-on testing in the coverage reviewed.
Launch prices, by publisher and date
The 2019 coverage gives three different money figures. None of them is a current price, and they do not describe the same thing.

Is the Ascent Swiss made?
The accurate description is that the Ascent has a Swiss movement and that the company says it is assembled in Switzerland. The coverage does not document a legal-origin certification, and nothing reviewed shows that the watch carries or qualifies for the “Swiss Made” label. Avoid using that label when describing the Ascent unless the seller or manufacturer confirms it in writing.

The most recent source is the company’s LinkedIn profile, accessed October 8, 2026. A company profile shows that a brand has described itself at one time; it does not confirm that the company is trading, that stock remains, or that service is offered. The brand’s own website could not be checked for this article, so we have no current official statement on operations.

- Visit the brand’s official website and confirm that the Ascent is listed with a current price and a purchase route.
- Open the original Kickstarter project page and read the later updates, which should show whether backers received watches and how the campaign was fulfilled.
- For any seller, ask for the exact model name, the movement, and the warranty in writing before paying.
- If you plan to buy a strap, measure the lug width of the specific watch first, because the coverage does not state lug width.
Treat everything above as a historical profile of a 2019 launch. The Ascent’s history is well documented in the publications cited here; its present availability is not.
