The right choice depends first on your phone: Apple Watch Series 12 is specified for compatible iPhones, while the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9’s exact phone requirements should be checked for your model and region. In the US, reported Galaxy Watch 9 launch prices range from $379.99 to $459.99 depending on size and LTE; Apple lists Series 12 from $399. Those prices are not directly equivalent: Apple’s is a starting price, and Samsung’s figures are reported launch prices, not confirmed current offers.
Price and available configurations
Samsung’s US product listings show Galaxy Watch 9 in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes, with Bluetooth and LTE versions. TechRadar reported the following US launch prices on September 30, 2026; they are secondary-source launch figures, not a verified Samsung price list or current sale prices:
| Galaxy Watch 9 configuration | Reported US launch price |
|---|---|
| 40 mm, Bluetooth | $379.99 (TechRadar, 2026) |
| 40 mm, LTE | $429.99 (TechRadar, 2026) |
| 44 mm, Bluetooth | $409.99 (TechRadar, 2026) |
| 44 mm, LTE | $459.99 (TechRadar, 2026) |
Apple announced a US starting price of $399 for Apple Watch Series 12 on September 9, 2026. That is an entry price, not a quote for every size, material, or connectivity configuration. Apple began preorders September 9 and said store availability would begin September 18, 2026. Check the current local listing for the exact model and price before buying. Phone compatibility should decide the shortlist
Apple Watch Series 12
Apple says watchOS 27 requires an iPhone 11 or later, or iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), with iOS 27 or later in the compatibility context described in its announcement. Apple also cautions that features may not be available on every device or in every region. Verify both your phone’s software and local feature availability before purchase. Samsung Galaxy Watch 9
Samsung’s US listings establish 40 mm and 44 mm Bluetooth and LTE variants, but the available listing details do not establish phone requirements. Check Samsung’s official support information for your exact phone, region, and intended features rather than assuming compatibility from the watch brand. LTE models may also require carrier support and service; confirm that with your carrier.
Health and fitness features: what is established
Apple’s announced health sensing
Apple says Series 12 uses an S11 chip and a new Health Sensing System, including higher-frequency heart-rate and heart-rate-variability measurements that support a readiness score. Apple also described a study with over 1,000 participants comparing heart-rate sensing accuracy and said Apple Watch had the highest accuracy across the devices in that study. That is Apple’s characterization of its own study; the announcement does not provide enough detail to assess its methods independently, so it should not be read as a general clinical conclusion. Samsung comparison limits
The Samsung product listing information available here does not establish a full Galaxy Watch 9 health-feature specification. There is therefore no sound basis for declaring one watch more accurate or more capable overall. For a feature that matters to you, check the official regional product and support pages for its availability and requirements; health features can vary by device and location.

Battery life: Apple’s estimates, no matched comparison
Apple says Series 12 lasts up to 24 hours in everyday use and up to 10 hours during an outdoor workout. These are Apple’s estimates, not results from an independent, matched test. A comparable Galaxy Watch 9 battery figure and test conditions are not established here, so the numbers do not support a battery-life winner. Apple’s battery claims
How to choose between them
- Start with your phone. If you use an iPhone, compare Series 12 against your phone’s supported generation and software. If you are considering Galaxy Watch 9, confirm your exact phone meets Samsung’s requirements.
- Choose size and connectivity. For Galaxy Watch 9, decide between 40 mm and 44 mm, then Bluetooth or LTE. Check the Apple listing for the exact Series 12 size and connectivity configuration you want.
- Compare like with like at today’s local price. Treat Samsung’s published-in-coverage launch prices as historical reported figures, and Apple’s $399 as a US starting price. Neither establishes what a particular configuration costs today.
- Prioritize confirmed features. Apple has announced its readiness-score support and battery estimates; verify any must-have health feature on the relevant local product page. Do not treat vendor accuracy claims as a head-to-head independent result.
- Check LTE logistics and regional availability. Confirm carrier support and service costs for an LTE configuration, along with local availability of the watch’s features.
Bottom line
Choose Apple Watch Series 12 if you have a compatible iPhone and its announced health-sensing features suit your priorities. Consider Galaxy Watch 9 if its size and Bluetooth/LTE options fit your needs, but verify phone support and current regional pricing before committing. The available evidence does not justify a universal winner or a direct battery or accuracy comparison.
