The current deconstructed Cartier Crash Skeleton is the 2026 Cartier Privé Crash Squelette, reference WHCH0012 / CRWHCH0012. It pairs a platinum, asymmetrical case with a new hand-wound calibre, 1967 MC, whose skeletonized bridges form Roman numerals. Cartier Brazil lists it at R$840,000; that is a regional listing, not a worldwide price or confirmation of stock. This is a different generation from the platinum Crash Skeleton covered in 2015, which used calibre 9618 MC and was limited to 67 pieces.
What makes the 2026 Crash Squelette “deconstructed”?
On the 2026 model, the movement is also the display. Cartier’s openworked bridges are shaped into Roman numerals, rather than sitting behind a conventional dial. The movement and its architecture follow the Crash’s asymmetric, kinked outline, so the watch reads as a sculptural object as much as a timepiece.
The bridges are hand-hammered. SJX reports that the finishing takes roughly two hours per movement; that production detail is SJX’s report, not a published Cartier specification. Blued-steel sword-shaped hands and a ruby cabochon in the beaded crown pick up the burgundy semi-matte alligator strap.
The Crash design dates to 1967. Monochrome’s 2026 account describes Cartier London under Jean-Jacques Cartier working with designer Rupert Emmerson, following a request from client Stewart Granger for a unique watch. It links the unusual case to an asymmetric interpretation of the Maxi Oval, also known as the Baignoire Allongée. The often-repeated tale that a Cartier executive’s watch melted in a fatal car crash is not established as the origin: Monochrome says Francesca Cartier Brickell’s family-history work debunked that legend. Cartier’s Brazilian product page is the source for the listed specifications. Monochrome describes the movement as having 142 components; that is a component count, distinct from Cartier’s 25-jewel figure.
How much does the Cartier Crash Skeleton cost?
Cartier Brazil displayed a price of R$840,000 when its product page was reviewed in 2026. The page directs buyers to contact a Cartier ambassador to confirm stock, request express delivery, or personalize the watch. The figure applies to that Brazilian listing; it does not establish prices or availability in other markets.

SJX reported a 2026 launch price of €97,000 before tax. Monochrome’s first look, published on 15 April 2026, still gave the price as to be confirmed. These are reports from different points in launch coverage, and the euro figure is explicitly before tax. Do not treat either as a current global quote; ask Cartier in the market where you intend to buy. SJX’s launch report gives its price and frequency figures.
2026 vs. 2015 Cartier Crash Skeleton
The shared design language can obscure how much changed between generations. The 2015 watch was the platinum Crash Skeleton with calibre 9618 MC; the 2026 Privé Crash Squelette introduces calibre 1967 MC and a different edition size.

Is the Cartier Crash Skeleton water-resistant?
No. Cartier’s Brazil product page states that the 2026 Crash Squelette is not water-resistant.

Is the 2026 Crash Squelette the same watch as the 2015 Crash Skeleton?
No. The 2015 platinum model used calibre 9618 MC and was limited to 67 pieces; the 2026 Privé Crash Squelette uses calibre 1967 MC and is limited to 150 numbered pieces.
