Those dimensions give you a useful starting point, but they do not determine fit by themselves. The Roadster’s shaped case wears differently from a simple round watch, and Cartier does not publish a wrist-circumference formula for choosing between the sizes. When possible, compare both on your wrist.
Current Cartier Roadster sizes
Cartier’s Brazil catalog lists medium and large Roadster models. The figures below are the dimensions shown for the cited current models; they should not be treated as a specification table for every vintage Roadster reference.

Cartier’s international product result shows 47.2 × 38.7 mm in its description and 47.2 × 38.8 mm in a specification field. That one-tenth-millimeter difference is not a meaningful basis for choosing a size.

Why Roadster dimensions do not tell the whole fit story
The Roadster is not a conventional round case. Cartier describes design cues including a speedometer-inspired dial, conical crown, headlight-shaped date magnifier and rivets. A 2026 industry report describes its trapezoidal case and says proportions and ergonomics were reworked for the collection’s return. These design details make the stated length and width a starting point, not a guarantee of how the watch will look or feel on a particular wrist.

During a try-on, look at the case’s visible length and width, how it sits between the edges of your wrist, and whether the ends feel comfortable. This is practical fit guidance rather than a Cartier-published sizing rule. A size that looks balanced on one wrist may feel too prominent or too restrained on another.
How to choose between medium and large
- Measure your wrist consistently. Use a flexible measuring tape around the thickest part of your wrist, usually the wrist joint. Cartier’s bracelet guide uses this measurement for bracelet sizing; it does not prescribe a Roadster case size from circumference.
- Compare a familiar watch. If you own a watch you find comfortable, compare its case dimensions and how much of your wrist it covers with the Roadster. Treat this as a practical reference, not an official Cartier recommendation.
- Try both current sizes if practical. Because the Roadster has a distinctive shaped case, an in-person comparison is more informative than applying a round-watch diameter rule. A Cartier boutique try-on can help if you are between sizes.
- Choose for the presence you prefer. The medium offers a more restrained scale; the large has a greater stated footprint and a more assertive presence. These are subjective descriptions, not universal fit categories tied to a particular wrist measurement.
Consider the band separately from case size
Band choice affects comfort and the watch’s appearance, but it does not change the case dimensions. Cartier’s current large steel WSRD0020 includes a steel bracelet and an additional leather strap with QuickSwitch interchangeability. Do not assume that the same strap arrangement or compatibility applies to a vintage Roadster; confirm the exact reference and configuration.

Cartier’s bracelet guide recommends adding one centimeter for a loose bracelet fit and notes that sizing varies somewhat by collection and model. Apply that instruction only to bracelet fit, following the guidance for the specific product. The extra centimeter is not a case-size recommendation.

What to check when buying a vintage Roadster
The current medium and large measurements do not establish the dimensions of every earlier Roadster. Cartier’s collection page says the design returns after its original 2002 launch, but the current catalog is not a complete historical size chart.

- Ask for the exact reference and the case dimensions of the watch being sold.
- If it has a bracelet, confirm its link count or ask how it fits your wrist.
- Check whether the included band and any interchangeable parts belong to that specific reference.
- Review the seller’s return terms in case the watch does not sit or feel as expected.
