The Cartier Santos 100 is an earlier, distinct Santos model associated with the collection’s 2004 centenary—not another name for the redesigned Santos de Cartier introduced in 2018. It remains a pre-owned option for buyers drawn to its larger, squared-off presence, but its dimensions and specifications depend on the exact reference. Verify the individual watch rather than borrowing details from Cartier’s current Santos.
What is the Cartier Santos 100?
The Santos 100 was an earlier model in Cartier’s Santos family, associated with the line’s centenary in 2004. Cartier introduced a redesigned Santos de Cartier collection in 2018, replacing the Santos 100 line. The watches share the broader Santos heritage, but they are separate models with different designs and specifications. Hodinkee’s 2018 account of the Santos and its coverage of the 2018 collection provide context for that transition.
The Santos family’s history goes back further: Hodinkee reports that Cartier put the Santos into production around 1911, following the watch’s association with aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont. That history belongs to the wider Santos line, not specifically to the Santos 100.
How does the Santos 100 wear?
Expect a visually assertive, square-case watch, but do not treat one published measurement as the size of every Santos 100. WatchTime reports a 42 × 51 mm measurement for one Santos 100 configuration; that is an example, not a universal specification. WatchTime’s Cartier overview is the source for that configuration.

Whether it feels too large depends on the particular reference, its dimensions and thickness, and how its shape sits on your wrist. Square watches can wear differently from round watches with a similar stated width. If possible, try the exact configuration on wrist; otherwise, ask the seller for the reference and case measurements, and compare those with a watch you already know fits well. Do not use the current Santos’s dimensions as a substitute.
How does it compare with the current Santos de Cartier?
The current model is useful as a clearly labeled point of comparison, not as a source of Santos 100 specifications. The table uses the large WSSA0018 as one current Santos de Cartier example; it does not represent every current Santos configuration.

The current-model figures are from Tourneau’s WSSA0018 product specification sheet. They apply to that listed watch only. In particular, its 1847 MC movement, dimensions, bracelet features and water resistance should not be attributed to the Santos 100.
Is the Santos 100 discontinued?
The Santos 100 belongs to the earlier line that the redesigned Santos de Cartier collection replaced in 2018. The material available here establishes that collection transition, not the status of every regional listing or the availability of every individual reference. A Santos 100 found for sale today should be treated as a pre-owned watch, and its condition, configuration and documentation need to be assessed individually.

What should you check before buying a pre-owned Santos 100?
Because specifications vary by reference, start by establishing exactly which watch is being offered. A family name alone is not enough to confirm case size, movement, bracelet or strap, or water resistance. - Reference and configuration: Ask for the exact reference and clear photographs of the watch and its identifying details. Confirm that the stated case, dial, movement and bracelet or strap correspond to that reference.
- Condition: Inspect the case, bezel, screws, crystal, dial, hands, crown and bracelet or strap for wear, damage or signs of work. Request close-up images and an in-person inspection where practical.
- Service documentation: Ask for any available service records and clarify what work was done and when. No model-specific service interval or recurring failure pattern is established here, so do not infer one.
- Included items: Confirm which box, papers, links, accessories and records are actually included rather than assuming they come with the watch.
