The Christophe Claret 21 Blackjack is a mechanical watch that lets its wearer play blackjack, roulette and dice. Its games are built into the movement and case: a spring-driven mechanism reveals cards on the dial, miniature dice appear through a side window, and the automatic rotor doubles as a roulette wheel. It was announced as a 21-piece series, but auction records and historical estimates should not be mistaken for current availability or a present-day price guide.
How the 21 Blackjack’s games work
The watch combines ordinary hours-and-minutes timekeeping with three playable casino games. The game mechanisms are described in a maker-related technical announcement republished by La Cote des Montres and in auction catalogues.
Blackjack: seven discs reveal the cards
Pressing a pusher starts a spring-driven mechanism that turns seven gold discs bearing cards. Catches stop the discs in randomized positions, bringing cards into alignment with windows on the dial. Chimes sound as the cards are revealed. This is a mechanical display, not an electronic game.
Roulette: the winding rotor becomes the wheel
The roulette wheel is integrated into the caseback. The automatic winding rotor also functions as the spinning wheel, so the component that helps wind the watch serves a second purpose in the game.

Dice: miniature pieces, visible at the side
The dice are miniature and can be seen through a window in the case. Together, the three mechanisms make the 21 Blackjack a functional game watch rather than a standard watch with casino-themed decoration.
Movement and documented series specifications
The series-piece specification in the maker-related announcement identifies a self-winding, double-barrel BLJ08 calibre. Its listed figures are specific to that documented series specification; they should not automatically be applied to every unique or variant example.

These figures come from Christophe Claret’s technical specification, republished in 2011 by La Cote des Montres. Case materials and design details vary by reference, so use the individual watch’s documentation when assessing a particular example.
References, materials and rarity
The maker-related announcement described a 21-piece series and stated that its first pieces would be available in December 2012. That is a historical release statement, not confirmation that a watch is currently available. Christie’s later documented one example as number 09/21, reference OG007BLJ08, circa 2012. These records establish the series context and that specific example; they do not establish a combined production total across every configuration.

Documented references include OG007BLJ08, OG012BLJ08, OR012BLJ08 and Ti016BLJ08. Auction catalogues show examples in white gold with black PVD-coated titanium, pink gold with titanium, and black PVD-coated titanium. Christie’s describes an OG012BLJ08 with an automatic BLJ08 movement and 45 mm diameter; Phillips lists a 45 mm OR012BLJ08 in pink gold and titanium. Confirm the reference and case material on the actual watch rather than assuming every 21 Blackjack is identical. Published auction figures are useful historical evidence for particular watches, not current valuations. In its May 2013 Hong Kong sale release, Christie’s estimated an OG007BLJ08, number 09/21, at HK$320,000–480,000 (US$40,000–60,000). Phillips records an OR012BLJ08 example sold for HK$550,000; the catalogue page does not state a publication date. The lots differ in reference and materials, and their results are tied to their sale dates and circumstances. Christie’s lot record and Phillips’ catalogue document those specific examples.

For a current purchase or appraisal, compare the exact reference and case material, condition and originality, provenance and papers, service history, and included accessories. Completeness is lot-specific: Phillips’ catalogue for one example lists an undated international guarantee, instruction manual, cards, six dice, a chip, loupe, cloth, pouch, wallet, presentation box and outer packaging. Ask for photographs and documentation for the individual watch; another example may not include the same items.
