Its single crown-integrated pusher gives the chronograph a distinctive, intuitive identity, while the Tortue’s century-long history gives the design more substance than a limited-edition revival. The 2024 watches were limited editions; Cartier’s current Privé page includes the Tortue among the shapes celebrated in its tenth edition, but does not establish that it is now a regular-production model—or disclose that edition’s specific materials, quantity, price or availability.
What Cartier’s current listing does—and does not—tell us
Cartier’s current Cartier Privé page says its tenth edition celebrates three shapes from previous editions: the Tank Normale, the Tortue Monopusher Chronograph and the Crash Skeleton. That confirms the Tortue remains part of the Privé story in 2026. It is not confirmation that the 2024 watch has entered regular production.
The distinction matters. Cartier’s regional product listing and the 2024 launch coverage describe limited editions, while the current Privé page does not provide model-specific production terms. A recurring place in Cartier’s design vocabulary is not the same thing as a continuously available watch. The case for regular production is therefore a recommendation, not a claim about Cartier’s present offering.
Why the Tortue monopusher deserves to stay
A long history, not a one-season novelty
Cartier introduced the Tortue in 1912, according to Hodinkee’s 2024 report. The monopusher chronograph appeared on a Tortue in 1928, and the complication returned in a Collection Privée Cartier Paris reinterpretation in 1998, according to the Fondation Haute Horlogerie. The 2024 revival thus connects a recognizable Cartier case shape to a complication with its own history in the line.

One pusher makes the complication part of the design
A conventional chronograph may use separate pushers to start, stop and reset its timing mechanism. In a monopusher, one pusher integrated into the crown controls that sequence. Press once to start, again to stop, and again to reset, as described by the Fondation Haute Horlogerie. It is a practical simplification, but also a visual one: the case keeps the crown-and-pusher arrangement compact rather than adding a second chronograph control.
The dial balances heritage with legibility
The 2024 version retains details associated with earlier examples: blued-steel apple hands, a hollowed counterweight on the central seconds hand and triangular motifs at the dial corners. The Fondation Haute Horlogerie notes that the railway minutes track sits outside the Roman numerals, a layout intended to improve legibility and give the two chronograph counters greater priority.

- Cartier Baignoire Mini Model Silver Dial Watch WGBA0041
On the platinum model, Cartier specifies a silver opaline dial, spiral-form counters, small seconds at 9, chronograph minutes at 3, rhodium-plated Roman numerals and blued apple-shaped hands. These are not decorative flourishes pasted onto a generic chronograph dial; together with the shaped case and single control, they make this a particularly legible expression of Cartier’s own design language.
What the 2024 watch offered
Cartier’s Brazil listing for the 2024 platinum model, accessed in 2026, describes a manually wound 1928 MC movement and gives approximate water resistance of 30 metres. The listing specifies 24 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and approximately 44 hours of power reserve. The Fondation Haute Horlogerie gives the movement’s thickness as 4.30 mm. Hodinkee’s 2024 report identifies the 1928MC as a column-wheel chronograph beating at 4 Hz, consistent with 28,800 vibrations per hour.

- Adjustable 20mm leather strap fits up to 8-inch wrist circumference
- Black dial with silver-tone subdials; date window at 4 o'clock; full markers
- 30-minute chronograph measures to 1/20th second
- Silver-tone 41mm stainless steel case with mineral glass crystal; luminous hands
- Water resistant to 50m (165 ft): In general, suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, but not diving or snorkeling
For the platinum version, Cartier lists a case measuring 43.7 × 34.8 mm and 10.2 mm thick. That is a substantial footprint for a shaped dress watch; the elongated Tortue outline is central to its presence on the wrist, rather than a neutral round case shrunk around a movement. Cartier also lists interchangeable alligator straps.
The limited editions: what buyers could choose in 2024
| 2024 configuration | What the sources establish | Edition and launch price |
|---|---|---|
| Platinum | Cartier Brazil lists a silver opaline dial and case dimensions of 43.7 × 34.8 × 10.2 mm. | Cartier Brazil identifies a numbered edition of 200. Hodinkee reported a 2024 launch price of €53,000. |
| Yellow gold | Hodinkee reported a yellow-gold version. The cited materials do not establish its exact dial specification here. | Hodinkee reported 200 pieces per metal and a 2024 launch price of €46,000. |
| Diamond-set platinum variant | Hodinkee reported a diamond-set platinum variant. | Hodinkee reported 50 pieces. The cited materials do not state a launch price for this variant. |
The prices above are historical 2024 launch prices reported by Hodinkee, not current prices or a guide to today’s availability. Cartier Brazil’s product page also listed R$457,000 for the platinum watch; that is a regional listing price and should not be treated as a global or current price. The 2024 Cartier Brazil listing is available at Cartier Brazil’s WHTO0008 product page.

Why regular production would be better than another brief return
The limited editions made the Tortue monopusher visible again, but scarcity also makes it difficult to treat the watch as an enduring part of Cartier’s collection. A regular-production version would give the design a chance to be judged on its merits—not only as a rare release—and let buyers consider it alongside Cartier’s other continuing shaped watches.
Regular production need not mean abandoning the precious-metal editions or their restrained dial. Cartier could retain the platinum and yellow-gold expressions as the high-end references while establishing a clearly specified, continuously offered configuration. That is a proposal, not a description of an existing third option: the cited sources establish the two 2024 metal editions and Hodinkee’s report of a diamond-set platinum variant, but do not establish a regular-production configuration now on sale.

Nor does a regular-production case require Cartier to promise unlimited output or permanent availability. The useful change would be a stable place in the catalogue, with transparent specifications and terms, rather than another appearance whose exact production status must be inferred from a collection page.
What remains unconfirmed for the tenth Privé edition
Cartier’s 2026 page establishes that the Tortue Monopusher Chronograph is among the shapes celebrated by the tenth Cartier Privé edition. The material available on that page does not state the watch’s edition size, case metals, price or current availability. Those details should not be borrowed from the 2024 release: its numbered platinum edition and Hodinkee’s reported per-metal quantities describe the earlier watches, not automatically the 2026 edition.
