Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Art Tribute to Great Civilisations with the Louvre is a collection of watches built around miniature, craft-intensive interpretations of historic works—not a conventional dial-and-marker design. The first four-watch series launched in 2022; a second four-watch chapter arrived in 2026, with subjects from Pharaonic Egypt, the Assyrian Empire, Ancient Greece and Imperial Rome. The most distinctive work happens on the dial: carved stone figures, enamel, engraving and other decorative techniques are layered around aperture-based time displays.
What is the Tribute to Great Civilisations collection?
It is a Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art collection developed in collaboration with the Louvre. The museum partnership informs both the selection of historic subjects and the surrounding decorative motifs. Vacheron Constantin says works from the Louvre’s Antiquities Department were selected with curators, and that experts helped research the friezes and ornaments used around the central figures. The brand describes the project as a three-year development, including a year of thematic research with Louvre department heads and curators. Vacheron Constantin’s collection page presents the current four models as a new chapter following the 2022 series.
The 2026 chapter comprises Buste d’Akhénaton, Lamassu de Sargon II, Athéna de Velletri and Tibre de l’Iseum Campense. The titles refer to figures or works associated with Egypt, Assyria, Greece and Rome. The collaboration is more than a name on the dial: the objects and historical decoration provide the design’s subject matter, while the watchmaking platform gives the pieces a shared format.
How the dials turn historic subjects into Métiers d’Art
The dial is the collection’s main point of distinction. Vacheron Constantin lists engraving, micro-mosaic, enamel, marquetry and glyptics among the crafts used across the collection. Their use differs by model: a central figure may be carved or engraved, while stone, enamel, gold and engraved sapphire contribute to the surrounding scene.

Buste d’Akhénaton: carved stone and layered friezes
The Buste d’Akhénaton (reference 7620A/000G-H078) depicts the Egyptian pharaoh in a hand-patinated glyptic applique. Vacheron Constantin describes the applique as carved from Sinai limestone and sandstone; the cartouche is engraved on the same sandstone. A turquoise outer ring carries a drypoint-engraved frieze inspired by Nakhti’s necklace, while an inner frieze uses stone champlevé set within engraved gold threads. The dial is described as an 18K gold Métiers d’Art dial inspired by Pharaonic Egypt. The official Akhénaton specification and description provide the model’s full technical details.
Victoire de Samothrace: engraved gold and Greek-vase references
The earlier Victoire de Samothrace (reference 7620A/000G-B928) combines a hand-engraved 18K gold Victory of Samothrace applique with brown enamel and grisaille enamel friezes based on two Greek vases. An engraved sapphire crystal carries Greek script, and the outer gold frieze takes inspiration from the Vase of Pergamon. Vacheron Constantin’s Victoire de Samothrace page documents the dial and case specifications.

Lion de Darius: engraved gold against stone marquetry
The earlier Lion de Darius (reference 7620A/000R-B926) places a hand-engraved, patinated gold lion applique against turquoise and mochaite jasper stone marquetry. An engraved sapphire and a champlevé enamel and engraved-metal frieze refer to the Palace of Darius at Susa. Its case is pink gold, in contrast to the white-gold cases of the cited Akhénaton and Victoire models. See the official Lion de Darius page for its published specifications.
These examples show why the watches are better understood as miniature decorative compositions than as identical dials with different central images. The stone, enamel, metalwork and engraved crystal contribute to each model’s visual language, and the techniques are not interchangeable decorations applied in the same way on every reference.

How the watch displays the time
The documented Akhénaton uses automatic caliber 2460 G4/2 with aperture displays for hours, minutes, day and date, rather than conventional central hands. Vacheron Constantin lists a 40-hour power reserve, 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), 237 parts and 27 jewels for this caliber. The Victoire de Samothrace and Lion de Darius pages also specify automatic caliber 2460 G4/2 and a 40-hour reserve. These common specifications establish the watches’ mechanical format; they do not establish that every technical detail is identical across every model in the collection.
Case dimensions, materials and editions
The cited Akhénaton, Victoire de Samothrace and Lion de Darius specifications share a 42 mm case diameter, 12.93 mm thickness and 30 m water-resistance rating. Case metal differs between the examples: the first two are white gold, while the Lion de Darius is pink gold. That published format gives a useful sense of the collection’s scale, but it is not a substitute for trying a particular watch on the wrist.

The 2026 models are described as limited editions of 15 each by Vacheron Constantin and by Wallpaper*’s 16 April 2026 report. That edition figure applies to the new chapter; it should not be carried over to earlier references without model-specific evidence. A limited edition count does not establish whether a watch is currently available to buy or what it may sell for.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the published specifications do—and do not—tell you
The listed dimensions and water-resistance rating help define the watches’ case format, and the aperture layout explains how the Akhénaton presents its calendar and time indications. They do not, by themselves, tell a prospective wearer how the watch feels, how easily the apertures can be read in different lighting, or how the decoration appears in person. No firsthand wear or physical testing is represented here.

For the Akhénaton, the official page additionally lists a transparent sapphire caseback, blue alligator strap, triple-folding white-gold clasp and Hallmark of Geneva. Its 3-bar rating is specified as 30 m. Prices and current retail availability are not established by the cited product descriptions, so neither should be inferred from the edition size.
The technical challenge of combining crafts is significant: Vacheron Constantin product and innovation director Sandrine Donguy told Wallpaper* that the layered dial components required “micron-level precision” to avoid errors and achieve calibration across a complex dial of three to four layers. That description conveys the manufacturing constraint, not an independent assessment of finishing or performance.
