It is an appealing summer-ready design, but “affordable” depends on what a seller is asking today: its often-cited $550 US MSRP was published in 2018, not a current price. The main trade-offs are substantial 45 mm dimensions, a practical 4R36 automatic movement and a Hardlex crystal.
What makes the SRPA21 distinctive?
The SRPA21 is a Seiko Prospex Sea diver with a PADI special-edition identity. Its blue sunray dial, red accents and red-and-blue bezel create a more vivid look than a conventional black dive watch. Professional Watches described the reference as a popular model released in 2016 and connected it to the Turtle reissue lineage in its July 26, 2018 review. The cushion case adds to the recognizable, tool-watch character.
The color is the point: it gives the watch a strong presence in casual and warm-weather settings, while the familiar diver layout keeps it from feeling like a novelty piece. LumiBrite on the hands and indexes supports legibility in low light, according to Seiko’s official SRPA21 specifications.
How large does the SRPA21 wear?
Seiko lists a 45.0 mm case diameter and 13.4 mm thickness. Its official specification page gives a 22 mm distance between the lugs, but does not list lug-to-lug length. Professional Watches measured the reviewed example at 47.5 mm lug-to-lug and described the bracelet as tapering from 22 mm at the lugs to 20 mm at the clasp.

Those figures point to a broad, substantial watch rather than a compact diver. In the 2018 review, the reviewer found it slightly larger than ideal on their own wrist, which measured under seven inches. That is a subjective fit impression, not a universal cutoff: wrist shape, strap or bracelet articulation, and personal preference all affect how a 45 mm cushion case sits. If possible, try one on or compare its dimensions with a watch you already know fits.

Seiko lists the 4R36 as an automatic movement with manual winding, approximately 41 hours of reserve, 24 jewels, day/date and stop-seconds. Professional Watches additionally describes it as running at 3 Hz, or 21,600 vibrations per hour. Seiko’s published water-resistance wording is “200m / 660ft diver’s”; treat that as the manufacturer’s rating rather than a guarantee for every activity or a substitute for proper maintenance.

What is it like to own?
Movement and everyday operation
The 4R36 offers the useful basics: automatic winding, the option to wind by hand, a seconds hand that can be stopped for setting, and day/date. Its approximately 41-hour reserve is a practical specification, though it is not an unusually long reserve by modern standards. This is a straightforward mechanical movement, not a high-precision or luxury-caliber proposition.
Crystal and finishing expectations
Hardlex is the specified crystal, so the SRPA21 does not have sapphire’s scratch-resistance advantage. That is a meaningful consideration if the watch will see frequent knocks or you prefer to keep a crystal looking pristine. Professional Watches also noted chapter-ring alignment on its reviewed example. That is a quality-control caveat from one review sample, not evidence of a known defect rate across all SRPA21 watches; inspect the individual watch when buying used or remaining stock.

Bracelet and strap options
The 22 mm lug spacing gives owners room to consider compatible straps in that width. It does not establish that every 22 mm bracelet or curved end link will fit correctly, so verify the specific part and its fit before ordering. Seiko lists a bracelet clasp with a secure lock, push-button release and extender.
SRPA21 price: historical MSRP versus today’s market
Professional Watches reported a US MSRP of $550 in its 2018 review. That is a historical list price, not a current quote, used-market average or proof that the watch is affordable today. Because the SRPA21 is an older model, current asking prices and availability can vary with condition, seller, location and whether an example is new old stock or pre-owned. No current exact-model listing price is established here.

When evaluating an offer, compare the watch’s condition and completeness, seller reputation, warranty and return terms alongside the asking price. A low price without a credible seller or clear return policy may not be the better value. For a used piece, ask for clear photographs of the case, bezel, dial, crystal, bracelet and clasp, and confirm that the reference is SRPA21 rather than a visually similar PADI Turtle.

A later-family option is the SRPE99K1, for which Seiko Boutique UK lists a specification sheet with a 4R36 movement, approximately 41 hours of reserve, 20 bar rating, Hardlex crystal, 45.0 mm diameter, 13.4 mm thickness and 22 mm lugs. Its regional product sheet lists £429 including VAT; confirm current UK price and stock before treating that figure as an offer. The SRPE99K1 is a comparison, not the same reference or an assurance of identical color treatment.

Other later PADI-branded references are not interchangeable on materials. Seiko Boutique UK’s SRPK01K1 sheet lists a ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal, while its SRPG19K1 King Turtle sheet lists sapphire crystal. These differences matter if crystal or bezel material is a priority; they should not be read as specifications for the SRPA21, which Seiko lists with Hardlex.
For a useful side-by-side decision, compare the exact reference, dial and bezel colors, dimensions and fit, crystal and bezel materials, movement and reserve, included bracelet or strap, warranty, condition and actual current asking price. Seiko describes Prospex as a combination of the words “Professional” and “Specifications” in its product materials; the branding alone does not make different Prospex references equivalent.
