What the standard Casio A168 offers
Casio’s European product listing identifies the silver standard variant as A168WA-1; the US listing uses A168W-1. Check the suffix on the caseback or packaging before assuming that specifications for one variant apply to yours. The A168 collection also includes other finishes and collaboration versions.

The figures below are manufacturer specifications for the A168WA-1, not independent measurements. Casio Europe’s A168WA-1 product specifications list a 38.6 × 36.3 × 9.6 mm case, 50 g weight, resin case and bezel with chrome plating, and resin glass. That means the watch has a metal-look exterior, but it is not an all-metal watch and its glass is not mineral glass.

The digital display shows time, date and day, with 12- or 24-hour format. The full-surface electro-luminescent (EL) backlight illuminates the display blue-green; Casio describes the collection’s EL light as evenly illuminating the display in darkness. The watch also has a daily alarm, an hourly time signal and a 1/100-second stopwatch. Stopwatch capacity is 59’59.99″, with elapsed, split, and first- and second-place timing modes.

Accuracy and calendar
Casio lists accuracy of ±30 seconds per month and an auto-calendar that accounts for February as a 28-day month. The listing does not describe a perpetual calendar, so leap years require the user to adjust the date when necessary.
How the band fits
The stainless-steel band has an adjustable clasp, and Casio lists a compatible band size of 145–205 mm. Treat that as the manufacturer’s stated range, not a guarantee of comfort for every wrist shape or fit preference. If you are buying for a particular wrist, check the measurement and clasp adjustment before purchase.

Because A168 variants differ, confirm the complete model suffix before ordering a replacement band or comparing finishes. The available specifications do not establish that any particular aftermarket band will fit.
Water resistance: rain and hand washing, not swimming
Casio’s A168 collection page describes the watch as suitable for washing up or sudden rain. Its product listing says “Water Resistant,” but does not give the standard model a higher rating such as 5 BAR. Casio’s QW-5688 operation guide says watches marked WATER RESIST or WATER RESISTANT may be used for hand washing and rain, but not water-related work or swimming unless the watch is marked for enhanced resistance. Check the marking on your specific watch and its applicable guide; do not treat the A168 as a swim or dive watch based on the standard product listing.

- Avoid baths and high-temperature or high-humidity environments.
- After exposure to seawater, rinse away salt and dirt with plain water.
Battery life and replacement
The A168WA-1 uses a CR2016 battery, with an estimated life of approximately seven years according to Casio. This is a manufacturer estimate; actual service life can vary with use and conditions. Casio recommends having the battery replaced by the original retailer or an authorized service center and advises checking water resistance during replacement. That service check matters if you want to maintain the watch’s resistance to ordinary splashes and rain; changing a battery alone does not establish that the case remains water resistant.
What its history does—and does not—tell you
Casio says the A168 debuted in 1995 and received Japan’s Good Design Long Life Design Award in 2011. Those are manufacturer-reported history and recognition, not independent reliability testing or proof that a particular watch will last a given number of years. Who the A168 makes sense for
The standard A168 is worth considering if you want basic digital timekeeping in a small, 50 g package, with an illuminated display, alarm, hourly signal and stopwatch. Its stainless-steel band and adjustable clasp give it a more dressed-up look than a resin strap, while the resin case, bezel and glass keep the construction from being all metal. Its stated water guidance covers common everyday exposure, not swimming.
When comparing A168 variants or another digital watch, focus on case dimensions and weight, display legibility, band material and wrist fit, backlight type, battery estimate, water-resistance marking, and local price and availability. The official specifications establish features and dimensions; they do not establish comparative comfort, durability or reliability through independent wear testing.
