What the price difference buys on paper
A smaller, traditional Orient profile
The cited Orient models measure 38.4 mm across and 44.0 mm from end to end, with a domed crystal-glass front and a traditional, retro design. Those dimensions offer a useful point of reference for shoppers seeking a dressier watch that is not especially wide. The 12.5 mm thickness is greater than the Datoday’s 10.7 mm, however, so diameter alone does not tell you which will sit more comfortably or slide under a cuff.
The F6724 is automatic and can also be wound by hand. Orient lists a 40-hour reserve and accuracy of +25/−15 seconds per day. That accuracy figure is the brand’s stated specification, not a guarantee of how a particular watch will perform on your wrist.

A more feature-rich Commander Datoday
The cited Datoday is 40 mm wide and 10.7 mm thick. Its sapphire crystal has double-sided anti-reflective coating, and the watch adds a day display alongside the date. MIDO states a power reserve of up to 80 hours and 5 bar water resistance. These are concrete specification differences, but they do not by themselves establish superior real-world accuracy, finishing, service experience or resale value.
MIDO describes the Commander as a collection originating in 1959. That history is the brand’s own statement. Its US collection page shows multiple branches and price points, which is another reason not to assume every Commander shares the Datoday’s specifications or costs the same.

Which case and style may suit your wrist?
The Orient’s stated 44.0 mm case length is useful when judging how much of the wrist the watch may span. The Datoday’s cited page gives width and thickness but not case length, so the published figures do not support a direct lug-to-lug fit comparison. A 40 mm diameter is not automatically too large or too small: wrist shape, case design and personal preference all affect fit.
If possible, try both watches on, or compare their dimensions with a watch you already find comfortable. Consider the full profile, including thickness and how the bracelet sits, rather than choosing by diameter alone. The Orient announcement specifies a 20 mm bracelet; MIDO lists a 21 mm lug width for the Datoday, relevant if you are considering alternate straps.

- Shortlist the Orient if the cited 38.4 mm width, traditional design and 40-hour stated reserve meet your needs, and its actual local price fits your budget.
- Shortlist the Datoday if you value sapphire with anti-reflective coating, a day-and-date display, up to 80 hours of stated reserve, 5 bar water resistance or the specific two-year warranty shown on MIDO’s product page.
- Compare the complete purchase by reference and market. Confirm the seller, stock, final price, warranty coverage and service options where you live; do not treat the title’s dollar amounts as verified current prices for this pair.
- Choose by fit as well as features. The case dimensions differ, and the cited pages do not provide enough matching measurements to predict which watch will fit every wrist better.
