The Casio CA-53 is a calculator watch: the documented CA-53W-1 combines an eight-digit calculator with everyday timekeeping functions in a 25 g resin case. Casio also offers the CA-53WB as a related design variant inspired by the Casio Mini. Features and availability depend on the exact model and regional listing.
What does the Casio CA-53 calculator watch do?
Casio lists an eight-digit calculator alongside timekeeping functions on the CA-53W-1. Its calculator is intended for basic arithmetic, while the watch also provides dual time, a stopwatch, an alarm and a calendar. These are manufacturer-listed functions, not a claim about independent performance testing.
Timekeeping and calculator functions
- Calculator: eight-digit capacity.
- Time: dual time and selectable 12- or 24-hour display.
- Stopwatch: 1/100-second resolution, with elapsed-time, split-time, and first- and second-place timing; maximum capacity is 23:59’59.99”.
- Alerts: daily alarm and hourly time signal.
- Calendar: full auto-calendar through 2099.
- Setting: button tone can be switched on or off.
Casio specifies accuracy of ±15 seconds per month. The CA-53W-1 is also listed as water resistant, but the cited specification gives no depth rating. That wording alone does not establish suitability for swimming or diving. See Casio’s CA-53W-1 specifications.

How the CA-53WB differs
The CA-53WB is a related design variant with a face that references Casio’s early personal calculator, the Casio Mini. Casio describes its design as a homage to the calculator; this is the design distinction established by the cited product information, not a basis for assuming the CA-53WB shares every CA-53W-1 specification. Check the exact suffix and its local product page before comparing features.
Casio says the Casio Mini debuted in 1972 with a six-digit display. The company reports that one million units sold in the 10 months after release and six million over the series’ run; the product page does not state the years for those sales figures. Casio also reports that the Mini received Japan’s National Museum of Nature and Science designation as an Essential Historical Material for Science and Technology in 2008. See Casio’s CA-53WB product information.

Is the Casio CA-53 still available?
Availability depends on region and model. Casio labels the CA-53W-1 “Old Model” on its Europe page, but that status should not be treated as a universal statement about every market or the CA-53WB. Check Casio’s current local listing and retailers serving your region for current status; the cited product pages do not establish live stock or a universal price.

What to check before choosing a CA-53
- Confirm the full model suffix: the detailed specifications above are for the CA-53W-1, while the Mini-inspired design discussion applies to the CA-53WB.
- Match the listed functions, materials and dimensions to your needs rather than assuming variants are identical.
- Treat water resistance according to the exact wording and rating on the model’s local specification page; the cited CA-53W-1 listing provides no depth rating.
- For battery replacement, confirm that CR2016 is correct for the exact watch and follow local battery-recycling requirements.
