Neither Casio digital nor analog watches are automatically easier to use or maintain. Digital displays suit people who prefer reading numerals at a glance; analog dials suit people who read hands and markers more naturally. For upkeep, the exact model matters more than its display: check its power source, water-resistance marking, band material, and service instructions.
Which display is easier to read?
Digital: read the numerals directly
A digital watch shows the time as numerals, which can make a quick time check straightforward if you prefer reading numbers. Whether the display is comfortable to use still depends on its legibility and the particular model.

Analog: read the hands and dial
An analog watch communicates time through the position of its hands relative to dial markers. If that is the format you read most readily, it may feel more intuitive than numerals. Neither format is a universal winner; consider your eyesight, the dial or display, and where you expect to check the time.

Some digital models include additional functions and controls, which can mean more buttons or setup steps. That is a model-specific trade-off, not a rule that every digital watch is harder to operate. Compare the functions you will actually use and how the exact watch handles setting them; do not assume that display type alone predicts ease of use.

What maintenance does a Casio watch need?
Battery and service
Battery type and replacement instructions vary by model. Casio manuals specify the battery type for each watch, so check the manual rather than choosing a generic replacement. Casio recommends having applicable battery replacements handled by the original retailer or an authorized service center because special tools are required. It also recommends requesting a water-resistance inspection at the same time: Casio watch support and FAQ.
Casio’s general guidance says gaskets should be replaced periodically, about once every two or three years. Treat that as guidance for the watches covered by the support information, not a universal interval for every model; the specific manual and service advice should take precedence.

Water resistance and cleaning
Check the marking on the specific watch and its manual before exposing it to water. Casio’s general guidance gives examples: a watch with no BAR marking is suitable for hand washing and rain, but not swimming or water-related work; 5BAR examples include swimming; and the 10BAR and 20BAR entries allow additional activities. These are general examples, not guarantees for every model or every water activity. Casio cautions against scuba diving with watches not designed for it. Follow the manual, and do not operate ordinary buttons or crowns while the watch is submerged.

Casio advises avoiding baths, heated swimming pools, saunas, and washing with soap or detergent while wearing applicable water-resistant watches. After seawater exposure, rinse the watch with plain water. Storage and exposure conditions can affect performance, so follow the care instructions for the specific watch: Casio watch support and water-resistance guidance.

Band care
Band material affects water precautions and cleaning. Casio advises that leather bands should not be directly exposed to water through swimming or washing. Check the model’s care instructions for its band rather than inferring care needs from whether the display is digital or analog.

Compare the watches you are considering on the factors that affect your day-to-day use and upkeep:
- Time-reading preference: Decide whether you read numerals or hands and markers more easily.
- Legibility: Consider your eyesight and the actual display or dial in the settings where you will wear the watch.
- Functions and controls: Check which functions you need and how the model’s buttons or settings work.
- Power and service: Confirm the model’s battery or charging information and follow its replacement procedure.
- Water exposure: Match the watch’s marked rating and manual to your intended activities.
- Band and cleaning: Check the band material and its care requirements separately from the display type.
The available Casio guidance does not establish a category-wide battery-life, upkeep-cost, or usability winner. Those comparisons require the specifications and service needs of the particular models, not a digital-versus-analog label.
